They would now be null and void and FREE to participate in this new northern way of living. These bankers whom included people of color were shrewd and cunning they "banked" on the people who already carried the nation that they would would prop up the NEW way of living hence the civil war. The Panic of 1873 affected all banks in America and many countries overseas. Not just darker-skinned people.
