SPFBO is a competition ran every year to showcase self published fantasy! You can learn more about it on the official page mark---lawrence.blogspot.com/2024/09/spfbox-finalists-spfbo-10.html or I have video on it as well ua-cam.com/video/wblSo7K02NA/v-deo.html! This is my second year being a judge
Such a bummer none of these were a new fave for you but still enjoyed watching your SPFBOX content and look forward to the next round of books!! Hoping there’s a new favorite in there for you. I really enjoy how you always let us know what things you’re liking or disliking about a book, it really helps find the right readers for each book based on what we all think about those things. So far I am most intrigued to read your finalist and hope to get to it early next year
I loved Tanna. I read it out loud to my kid for a full month. We reenacted the scenes, charged forward, tricked the stupid Throgs that were coming to kidnap and hurt Tanna and Galdifort. My kid loved Tanna, and later Galdifort, too. It was a blast to read - but were different reader demographic. As you said, it comes down to personal tastes. Surprised you didn't DNF Blues with how you wanted the MC to die at 50%, was it because someone told you to push through it? The enjoyment 7/10, I take it the ending saved it and was great and fixed those issues you had. Good luck with the next batch.
I enjoyed aspects of it I just hated the main character really but I did enjoy the plot! the enjoyment was a 5/10 with my overall score being a 7! I personally don't dnf the finalists as I signed up to be a judge and score all 10 and I personally dont think I can score a book without finishing! Yeah reading is subjective so I love that books work for other people when they dont for me. Like at the end of the day all of the ratings I give here still are influenced by what I like and theres no really way around that and that's okay! that's always why I try to explain my thoughts around a book clearly. I never think a book is bad just that it didn't work for me!
@@CoverswithCassidy Thank you so much for this and expanding on it, I really appreciate it. Best of luck and looking forward to the next updates, especially end of 2024 favorites.
Ooof, sad to hear it was a rough batch! As a character driven reader, I am also a hard sell on if I hate a character for me to end up loving them or caring whatever happens to them, so I am in complete agreement on that point with you. It's next to impossible for me. The only character that I can think of where I actually had a proper hate to love arc is Jaime Lannister, but I think that the actor's portrayal really helped in that particular case 🤔 Fingers crossed that the next batch will go better for you! 🤞
I agree with your thoughts on the MC for Mushroom Blues I couldn’t make it past 6% before I dnf’d. I also feel similar with Tanna the Tendersword. I haven’t wanted to pick it back up so it might also be a dnf for me. I hope the next books go better for you! 😊 🍄
I also agree with you on Tanna. I did end up finishing it and it was just an OK middle grade book, imo. And all of your thoughts with Rachel Aaron's book tracks with the book I've read by her.
Great reviews! I completely agree with you about Tanna-I just didn’t enjoy it and don’t think it’s particularly well-written. Actually, I agree with you on others as well. My ratings differ slightly, but your observations are spot on!
I’ve really really loved some of Rachel Aaron’s past books, but haven’t picked up her last two series because I haven’t been in the mood. Sad to hear it didn’t really work for you.
Hi I use a weighted rating system, I have talked about it many times on my channel and there is even a video where you too can go and download the system yourself. My enjoyment is weighted double the other categories. It's how I rate all my books.

My fave pop was Schweppes Tonic before I stopped drinking fizzy drinks. But now that I reread Crave, I'll always associate Dr Pepper with Grace😄🍄

Hope the remaining five are a better time for you! Appreciate your detail and honesty though.

🍄 Sorry these did not bring you a lot of enjoyment. I hope the next batch does.
My favorite pop is pepsi, thank you very much lol.

I started with her latest series Tear Down Heaven and it blew me away. Five ⭐ no notes (which is rare for me)
Hi there Hi there Hi hey hello there
Good morning my dear friend

I think you did the math wrong for Tanna. 5+6+6+7+2=26 and if you average that 26/5 is 5.2. Round that to 5. Not sure how you got 4.67...
Even if it's 26/50 (total max point) Then it's 5.2. Not sure on the 4.67 at all.

And the same formula is used across all of the books so if one was wrong they'd all be which still makes them all correct
@@CoverswithCassidy New to the channel but seems like a bad look for a SPFBO judge... Aren't you supposed to be impartial?
@ we are not supposed to be impartial at all actually, we are supposed to read and score the books according to our taste since reading is subjective
