    Frozen fruit work wonderfully for smoothies, keeping it cold and not having to worry about watering it down with ice. Frozen veggies are so convenient considering the veggies are already cleaned and cut, saving you time from preparation and helps preserve nutrients much longer. Plus you don't have to worry about your frozen fruit/veggies spoiling so quickly. Frozen is the way to go imo.

      The cooking methods of foods affecting nutrients are interesting. Some things are more nutritious raw, more nutritious if steamed or boiled and some more nutritious if microwaved. It differs from one veggie to the next.

      It doesn’t tho.... do you understand how microwaves work? The ONLY thing happening is water molecules are being moved around by the micro radiation faster and faster to produce heat. Nothing about the food itself is being altered.

    This is something I’ve seen people obsessing a lot about and my friends can’t fathom why I always cook a bag of frozen veggies to eat at work. It’s a convenience and affordability thing. Here in Finland fresh greens are unbelievably expensive in winter and I’ve always believed that the nutrition content in frozen goods is as good as that in fresh. Now I can just share your video to my friends instead of trying to explain these things myself 👍

      I actually dont care about Apple Cider Vinegar - but a lot of bro science around "making the body more/less acidic" or talk like that on many channels. What the hell does that mean?! Doesn't the body regulate PH levels?

    • @brunopavic7240
      @brunopavic7240 6 років тому +1

      Yeah as soon as body pH enters the conversation I lose interest. You cannot change your bodies pH outside 7.3-7.45. It stays in that range for a reason... that’s where it operates. Outside of that you would likely be very ill and/or dead.

    • @brunopavic7240
      @brunopavic7240 6 років тому

      That pH ranges excludes your stomach which is typical 1.5-3.5 due to its role in substrate breakdown.

    I started buying frozen for my smoothie fruit, frozen kale, and spinach. When I buy fresh half goes bad before I use it and it’s way cheaper. Still eat fresh fruit too, but if you can save money, and it taste the same and nutrition is the same, why not. And frozen fruit etc is already cut up so more convenient in the morning anyway. Frozen blueberries in steel cut oatmeal, yum.

  • @ericna5686

    Jeff you should go in depth on how frozen/fresh/both should best be cooked. Baked/stir-fry/steams and so on. I feel like most of the time people overlook the fact that certain proteins/coenzymes/vitamins degrade to an extent depending on cooking time and method of cooking. Broccoli being an example, where steaming or boiling this vegetable sometimes leads to loss of water-soluble nutrients as they dissociate into the steam/water. I bake my veggies and I'm not to sure on if that is best but would be nice to know if there's a better way to go about cooking them.

    Folate gets rapidly degraded in frozen vegs. My strategy is to eat more fresh herbs and sprouts in winter. And liver as its about the best source of very bioavailable nutrients. I eat about 100kgs of berries during year most of them frozen as i gather them myself.I eat non refined whole food diet. Like people did 100 years ago.

    I'd like more explanation on the definition of "minimally processed" also the definition of "organic" I know organic being better has already been busted by many others, but I still feel that organic apples and berries are so much better. The wax they spray on apples and tomatoes and other veggies just taste horrible. BUT Are they actually different though? Are non organic produce still sprayed with waxes? Or is it just in my head?

  • @Masonsayshello
    @Masonsayshello 6 років тому

    I think fresh produce tastes better. Canned and frozen veggies are gross to me but I do buy my Broccoli frozen because then whenever I want to have a serving of vegetables I can just measure out a cup or so and I can heat it for a few minutes. Ultimately, if you wanna pay for fresh veggies all the time you’re gonna have to make weekly grocery shopping a thing. If you’re a broke college student or just someone who wants to save some money, buy the veggies frozen and in bulk and be on the lookout for sales.

    • @AFSamizdat
      @AFSamizdat 6 років тому +1

      Yes. Depending on the amount of heat, type, and protein source, it can inrease or decrease digestibility. This likely doesn't matter in high protein diets though.

    • @ashleys4263
      @ashleys4263 6 років тому

      It does denature the protein when exposed to too much heat. But there are other stable protein sources that do well with heat.

    • @vitorneves3263
      @vitorneves3263 6 років тому

      however, denaturing protein doesn't mean you lose it, the amino acids are still there, just disorganized. As long as you don't carbonize your protein, it's fine

    • @AFSamizdat
      @AFSamizdat 6 років тому +1

      This isn't entirely true. Amino acid profiles between cooked and say, raw protein sources change.This is large due to changes in moisture content, fat loss etc., depending on the protein source and processing method. The bio-availability of these amino acids DO change in the context of routine processing and preparation of a meal, due to Maillard reactions, racemization from L to D amino acids, and even the formation of potentially toxic compounds such as lysinoalanine. Some of the changes in amino acid bio-availability is not routinely analysed in routine amino acid analysis and is somewhat a point of contention in protein quality evaluation (Search FAO/WHO report Protein Quality). It is indeed true that the overall structure is "disorganised" or altered, but it is disingenuous to suggest that this is meaningless in terms of whether you acquire the nutrients from food. There really is a wide range of what this means in the context of the processing method and the protein source. Overall however, if you're consuming a high protein diet, how you process your protein is rather niche and likely doesn't impact your nutrition or gains.
