@@dustybeta4055 I love Vinny bumbling his way through a new game, but sometimes taking the time to understand the mechanics can actually make the game more enjoyable and by proxy the stream/video.
When the person asked for a potion to help put out fires in the field and house, my first thought was "oh yeah sure, just use a water potion"... but then I realized that a water potion would probably just a be a vial filled with water... and then I realized that would be hilarious if you could sell that.
My little nephew was playing this. He had me help him with some of the words to figure out what kind of potion some of the customers wanted. He didn't seem to consider some of the shadier requests that caused his shop to lose a little reputation for giving the customer what they wanted, but he was having fun. Kind of an exploration mechanic with the "map" of potion effects along with a little deductive reasoning in both effectively getting the effects you want and figuring out how to fulfill the requests. And maybe resource management, though I'm not sure if there's some time limit or anything that'd make that very important.
I’ve not played since the full release, but there was no time pressure, which made for a pleasantly chill experience. Definitely some resource management, as you only get a few random ingredients from your garden each day and whatever you can get if a merchant comes by
@@polocatfan Unless it was an old version, you were losing popularity, not reputation. As far as I'm aware, you can't easily gauge Reputation. That being said reputation currently affects nothing.
@@Technature7567 In the current release, there's a number representing your reputation and another representing popularity. Refusing requests always results in a loss of popularity (the amount lost increases based on what your popularity ranking is). Reputation is more complicated. There are three kinds of requests: Good, Neutral, and Evil. Good and Evil are pretty self-explanatory, Neutral are harder to spot and in my experience, relatively rare. For Good requests, you gain reputation for fulfilling them and lose reputation for refusing. The opposite for Evil requests. Neutral requests don't seem to affect your reputation. There's no real penalty for having your reputation be too high or too low, it just changes your clients. If you have high reputation, you get more clients with Good requests, which tend to require certain kinds of potions, and vice versa for low reputation. It seems like staying closer to neutral is beneficial to keeping a more balanced set of ingredients, but it's up to how you want to play. There are achievements for hitting highs and lows for reputation.
This game is great, I brew a potion with charm 3 and libido 2 and called it Giga viagra, it sells for over 300 gs. Also watching the first minutes of vin trying to remember the tutorial gives me agita
The potion renaming is easily the best feature in this game IMO, I made a sleep 3 potion and rename it "Literally Rohypnol", a 3 explosion and 2 light potion and called it "Nuclear Bomb", and my favorite, 3 poison and toughskin "Instant Skin Cancer"
This was a weirdly satisfying watch. Hope Vinny plays more of this in the future. I initially put it on as a sleepy time stream and I became as intrigued as he did.
Vinny, there is a Karma system in this game. You get different clientele depending on your karma. Help more good people and heroes and knights visit the shop. Help out thieves and murderers and evil necromancers and warlocks start showing up.

The best way of making dosh in Elder Scrolls - Alchemy. Ah yes, the "Gatorade Scam" as I nicknamed it (even know it has nothing to do with Gatorade, lol), where you mash nothing but cheap fruit and vegetables and stick it in a bottle, and sell it for vastly inflated prices, especially with higher alchemy skill. Reminds me of the "Bottled water scam" from Fallout 4.
Fallout 3 is about finding your father who was trying to mass purify water in a post apocalyptic wasteland and Fallout 4 is about being a purified water salesman and rebuilding society thanks to the events of 3, it was Todds original vision but Zenimax made him tack on a story about finding your son. My uncle works at Bethesda
Sorry for resurrecting an old comment, but the whole “boilsome random plants you found in your yard with water and put in a bottle, name it something fancy and overcharge for it” thing seems like how the “herbal supplements” are made in the real world, too. “This is Dr Fakename’s Elixir, it cures baldness, and will make you super hot in 3 days, just trust me bro” kind of thing.
Yeah, Mr. Sauce. Yeah, ALCHEMY Honestly this looks like an interesting and relaxing game, might try it out. The map mechanic representing your experimenting with potions is a neat idea.
26:22 Haha, because in the universe of the Witcher young boys are subject to extremely painful mutations to make them stronger and able to consume extremely toxic potions.
Could already tell there's more to this game that Vinny glossed over. The most obvious thing being the bad customers who want to use your potions for crimes negatively affecting you, or that it looks like you could just lie to people by slapping a different label on a potion.
Another thing is that he seems to always grind up the ingredients to the max, without considering what the best position for the destination is (the "X"), or taking advantage of the portals. You can easily make a level 3 Strength potion with just ONE fully ground up mudshroom, if you mix the potion just close enough to the portal's hitbox, then activate it with the fire. It'll teleport you, while still giving you enough to reach the effect's center.
Having just played Potionomics not too long ago (I recommend it btw. It is a really well made game), it's really interesting seeing how this and Potiononics can have similar mechanics and still be so completely different from each other.
Donno if it matters but I went out and bought this game after watching 20 minutes of this video. And by went out, I mean I stayed in and clicked on the steam icon and searched for it and then found out it was on sale and fuckin bought it with my hard earned moneys. thank you very much... Vinny.
I'm about 5 hours in (day 18) and it doesn't seem like you can use a *finished* potion as an ingredient. However, if you save a recipe, you can continue a brew from it and then navigate to another effect, like adding 2 levels of Stoneskin to a recipe for a 3-level Strength potion. Don't think there's been an upgrade for the garden just yet, though the game does have a screen saying that merchants will sell different alchemy equipment eventually. Could be a mid- or late-game thing.
So when does Vinny make the robertson expansion potion, or the bempis enlongener potion, or the SPEEN potion, or the glitch potion, or the corruption potion. or the Cheap Cuns Potion.
Wanted to like it, even had it wishlisted after the demo a while back. The random nature of the supply sellers screwed me over some times and left me dead in the water without basic ingredients. The novelty of "sailing a sea" of effects would make a great crafting minigame for an RPG, but it wore off as a main mechanic eventually. Maybe I was in a bad spot when I constantly couldn't use my recipes due to low supplies.
It did feel worrying at the early days since there's so little at first, but after going for the harder haggling options I always had plenty of money to buy a TON of ingredients. Still, there were times I was running low on something for a basic potion or two. Best you can do is just reach the effect with a different route, even if it's not as effective.
This reminds me of the hours I spent doing that little alchemy minigame in the thaumcraft 4 beta version for minecraft. I'm actually kind of disappointed they made it easier in the final release.
