The rubicon will have a 4:1 transfer case with a Dana 44 with 4.10 gears and lockers Front and rear and the non Rubicon will have a 2.72 transfer case with a Dana 44 with Limited slip and the front will have a Dana 30 open diff & doth will be geared at 3.73 it takes a lot more to make it a Rubicon then just put in a locker on the river but that’s just my opinion
The Rubicon front Dana 44 only has the Dana 44 ring gear, axle tubes and inner Cs are Dana 30. My YJ will be a Rubicon killer, Ford Dana 60 front, GM 14-bolt FF rear, both narrowed & with lockers, 38s, I’m not sure of the transfer case yet but the NVG241OR is pretty strong and less expensive than an Atlas. T/C overall length may be the deciding factor, due to driveline angles (SOA with stock height springs.)
Jeeplife Offroad...best comment on here and your exactly right! Unfortunately you are going to get nasty comments from all the people that couldn’t afford a real Rubicon.
Jeep started production on the TJ unlimited in mid 2004 and finished in 2006. Its not that easy to turn into a Rubicon. You would need a new front axle because the Rubi has a Dana 44 not the 37 then you'd need new gearing and transfer case, Rubicons have 4.10 gearing not 3.7. Then let's add front and rear E lockers and automatic sway bar disconnect. Gonna cost upwards of 15k depending on the shop.
Upgrading a standard LJ to the equivalent of a Rubicon, its only doable if you can do your own install. having everything done at a good shop will double your costs...so IF you are going to upgrade your LJ...do it better than what Jeep did with the Rubicon for about the same money as you would by finding a mint LJ Rubicon over a standard LJ
Yes this might be cheaper up front than a real Rubicon, however I guarantee it is cheaper to purchase a real Rubicon than to upgrade a regular LJ or TJ. It took me a while to find a real Rubicon LJ but I did and it was well worth the effort. If you price the parts and labor you are going to spend $5k-$7k to upgrade everything to Rubicon spec. Typically the the Rubicons run $2k -$3k more than regular LJ’s or TJ’s.
He only replies back too morons that put rubi stickers on YJs. We the real ones who laugh at the thought of transforming a stock jeep into rubies. I too own an 06LJ with 48k miles, black, manual, and I'll die b4 we part
It depends on what you want in the end, and what you want to spend up front. I would want "more" than what the Rubicon offers so starting with one would be a silly decision.... UNLESS you don't have what it takes up front to do what you want. That said, if you don't have that extra up front and want to get good use out of it, get the Rubicon.
TheWhiskeyCowboy Right, when I finish my YJ that’ll be used for the tough stuff and my ‘06 Rubicon w/4” lift & 255/85-16s will for the easier stuff. The YJ will be built much, much stronger.
Just got a 05 on rubicon all stock besides a 2 inch lift and rims with street tires. Never driven in winter but has 2 or three little spots that a little body work will take care of. Got it for just over 10k
Wow! I wish I had seen this video when it was made. Love this jeep! Exactly what I am looking for. Thanks for making this video and please let me know if you ever get one of these LJ's back in your inventory. Very interested! Steve from Texas
Got my 2006 LJ Rubicon in silver with 89K miles. Good luck trying to install the wheel lockers, a true advantage of the Rubicon to go with the Dana 44s.
I was halfway expecting this to be a build video with installing a front Dana 44 and lockers in both axles. I was hoping to see upgraded Novak t-case installed. How disappointing!
My apologies Eddie. Looking back my title or photo is misleading. It was still a great Wrangler one of my favorites that I sold while selling Jeep’s at Rodgers Wranglers. I’m sure it will get some nice upgrades from the new owner.
I will sell my 05 lj rubicon with 150k miles...on 35s and a better lift for 17... to pay the parts and labor at what you are selling this for...and end up with a rubicon equivalent would put somebody well past $25k...nice looking jeep, though...Non rubicon lj like this is only worth 12-13k.
The only way to make a non rubi a rubi is to put the rubi components (diffs and tcase) in a non rubi... there is no alternative. I’m doing it to my LJ right now lol.
If your going to wheel it the rubicon is by far better to build off of. Like others have said the Rubicon are locked up all the way around with dana 44's, and a 4:1 transfer case. I've got a jku that I've built up and the amount of money it takes to build a rubicon out weighs just buying one.
Yeah I'm still learning more about the Jeeps each day I continue selling them and yes its pretty pricey to get some of these major upgrades to make your Jeep into a Rubicon. Thanks for watching and sending some feedback. Chad
Damn you probably drive a Honda 2 work. And I said I wasn't gonna watch this but you seem like a shady salesman. Learn which aftermarket parts are actually worth putting on a jeep b4 trying to sell me on a mall crawler. Jeep guys want a used jeep in factory condition. And as far as building your own Rubicon and slapping a sticker on it that's laughable. You're the reason I've seen newer rubi graphics on older rubies. But hey, nobody can tell the difference. I just feel u went about this jeep all wrong. The first thing I wanna look at on a jeep is the undercarriage. We gotta know how bad it's been wheeled if ever. Why would you customize to your liking and then sell to me at an even greater markup. And dealers only do it to jeeps cause aftermarket parts are so cheap. I think I'm gonna put a KING sticker on my coil springs now. Maybe even go to harbor freight, cop a winch and grab a WARN sticker too. Sorry this whole sales pitch set me off.
Oscar Velasquez yes we do. We offer no credit check financing with a cash down payment. This badass Jeep sold several months ago, but we keep over 50 Jeeps in stock at our store

I have a TJ love the thing only issues is the frame in New England
Sweet. I would drive it. Maybe put in a trac lock carrier.
where is the locker switch on the dash ?...
You cant build it from another jeep. This was made only in 2004 to 2006 and have a 15 inch longer wheel base vs its similar TJ cousins
Rubicon means you have Dana 44 axles. It isn’t just lockers.
The Dana 44 as well as the limited slip was still an optional addition to all TJs, the electronic lockers were only available on rubicons.
@@14Maxmom The only way to get a front Dana 44, or a 4:1 transfer case, or any lockers was the Rubicon.
