Having tried the Proteus 6-Parameter v1 model, the ability to fine tune the settings delivers very good results for several of my videos - both CG and real world footages. 3. Seems like you guys skipped showing the upscaling on the 480p for a reason, it probably looks bad. Can you make a video upscaling 480p to 720p and 1080p?
I already tried with old 240p video from 2005 to using Proteus method and trhe result is marvelous. From blurry and noise to a clear, clean and detail result.
My videos don't look anything like these clips. The differences are there but not that noticeable even after trying to fine tune the settings. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I'm a beginner to Topaz Video Enhance ai and I really enjoyed your explanation on using this wonderful software. I'll buy it tonight because I have some videos with me and my wife on a Princess Cruise. I had taken a lot of videos on our cruise with a Sony analog camcorder. I think this software is perfect to clean up a lot of those videos and burn them to dvd. Thanks again for your explanation of how to use Topaz.
To me, yes, it's the best way to preserve memories like cruises, birthdays etc. I had burned my analog cruise videos over 15 years ago and they still looks good. The kids and family members have some memories of mom and dad having fun on a cruise.
Video Enhance AI's Proteus model has become indispensable for me in my efforts to achieve excellent video quality. I use it to get an almost additional 2X fake "optical" zoom in GoPro and drone cameras with fixed focal length lenses, and to upscale 5.6K 360 video off GoPro MAX to almost 11K, yielding sharper results when reframing. I also use it to upscale my CG renders in Blender from 1080p to 4K. I love it :)

Unfortunately you skipped the one video that looked semi challenging to upscale. That SD crowd shot would have been the hardest to recover detail. It also isn't fair to compare the cheetah shot to SD footage since it's most likely shot with a camera that has a large sensor, which retains a lot more information.
Thought the same. It works best with clean background and also for fixed camera .If we got any option to add background blur and camera stabilization, it should work like a charm .
thats not true I first read that gaia is the best so I had did all vids with that but 2 days ago I read that only works good for hd so the vids I did do I rescaled em but with the art model and they come out more sharp but the thing with the art is it works best set on low but for some vids it gives the eyes a weird looking bugged look or like they have a water effect around em so when some vids have that weird effect on low u have to use medium art but then that causes artifacts so then the only other choice is theia but it's not that sharp as art but it fixes that weird art problem even the some vids that have that weird effect around the eyes the whole vid looks way better then orginal but even theia looks way better still then the orginal even if theia is not sharp as art i have upscaled a movie it's on my channel it's called strapped check that out and then check out the normal one I used theia I gotta monster 3930 cpu and a gtx 1080 the cpu dont matter much with this program
Take care with "Revert Compressions" it blures textures, you loose fine structures, there is some Image information loss. For normal use I do not recommend revert compression Values over 20. There are better ways to make it fit for upsacling. Choose Proteus and set "relative to auto" Fine tune with "Reduce Noise" first to get noise away, then Increase "Recovery Details" and "+ Deblur" (normal use Values between 10-30 for booth). Increase more an more sharpen (use preview) but take care no artefacts happens. For some Source material (when source allows, you have to try) you get fanatisc results using "strong halo" first and then make a second pass by using the output video tuning with "Proteus", as described above.
in the snow scene, you can see, the ai can not clear all problems with high compressed videos like analog vhs footage. good or very good quality input brings good or very good output. in version2.4 proteus v2, the keep audio function looks broken. the output audio is flat and crappy.
so my render times are lagging i gotta 3060 gpu and a monster 3030k its great for other programs like wondershare which is a simple program but my render times for upscaling a 480 to 720p using proteus takes 2hr for each episode which cpu should I upgrade to
An amazing leap - please can you add the ability to reframe 4:3 to 16:9 with a moveable target area rather than fixed with an equal top and bottom? Not every video benefits from this fixed area. Aside from that WOW!

Using Proteus i got suddenly a grey black grid or lines for just some frames on skin from an old analog video. What to remove or increase to avoid this problem? The quality results by calibrating is amazing, but the spontaneous grids destroys the final result.
Hello, I tried to fix some footage 3840 x 2160 that was shot in daylight but was very noisy due to the incorrect ISO setting but I could not see any difference after it was processed using the app. Do you have any suggestions?

Ok here's a question. Why is it that Topaz Labs Video AI, which is the current version, does not have the fine tune adjustments slider when using the Proteus model to upscale to 4K? Seems like the current version, which I paid for, is missing a key feature. There is no link that I can find, to download Video Enhance AI anymore, so I can't even trial it.
Incedible piece of software. Just started using it. Currently I'm trying to find the sweet spot of video quality and file size in regards to the CRF setting. I turned in al the way down just to see the very best quality possible and I was deeply impressed. Obviously this resulted in a gigantic file. I'm wondering what other users are using for CRF setting.

Can you briefly explain why on the last video you turned down anti-aliasing? I'm thinking to get rid of pixelation you'd turn up anti-aliasing. Perhaps I'm not understanding how that control works.
Seldom have I felt like I got my money's worth on a software buy. Something obvious is always missing because egghead programmers either had to cut a corner to appease a project manager with a time table, or they are used to dealing with dev tool interfaces and not using software like a normal consumer, and make terrible feature or UI design choices This time I feel like I got my moneys worth. I paid a lot, and I got a lot.
@@WindFireAllThatKindOfThing I feel the same exact way. Many times I've bought something and been like "eh, its okay, but maybe not worth the price." With VEAI, like you said, you're really getting your moneys worth, even at the price. And the updates are considerable, as opposed to usually just minor tweaks on other programs when they're updated.
I was a bit shocked with the functionality of the anti-alias slider to be honest... it seems that for this one, the more you move it LEFT the stronger the anti-aliasing is... this is EXTREMELY un-intuitive... considering every other slider the more you go RIGHT the stronger the effect is. I'm still a bit confused actually... is the de-blur stronger to the right still? These should really be split into two sliders which both get stronger as slider goes to the RIGHT only.
I was wondering about that also. It's extremely counterintuitive, unlike most of the other settings. Why does setting the ANTI aliasing to a NEGATIVE number result in an decrease in aliasing?? That's just weird.
@@bugatti314159 because it's combined with DeBlur option. The more you move it to the right above zero, the sharper it becomes. The more you move it below zero, the softer/anti-aliased it becomes.
Advice If you have a video that contains compression. First enhance your quality video and make revert compression 85 to 100 then when you upscale make revert compression 0 because the revert compression reduce video's details Thank you
If you use the unsharpen mask with strong settings you will see a halo effect. Try it in Photoshop or Gimp. Some image sensors and hardware, for example dashcam footage, is notorious for applying unsharp on video and it creates nasty haloing artifacts in the compressed video.. It's a sharpening effect (fake contrast) that just creates details that shouldn't be there.

I have downloaded a trial version, 17 second clips took 50 minutes to render, so I am afraid to buy full version because, 1 or 2 minutes video clip will how much time take to render? over all render process is very slow.

best to use 2560x1080 its semi 1440 it looks almost the same and renders faster and looks almost as good as 4k not a big difference in quality compared to full 1440 on average it takes off 4 hrs of render time compared to full 1440p this is with using any rtx card I got 3060 I first read that gaia is the best so I had did all vids with that but 2 days ago I read that only works good for hd so the vids I did do I rescaled em but with the art model and they come out more sharp but the thing with the art is it works best set on low but for some vids it gives the eyes a weird looking bugged look or like they have a water effect around em so when some vids have that weird effect on low u have to use medium art but then that causes artifacts so then the only other choice is theia but it's not that sharp as art but it fixes that weird art problem u was right saying in the future the problems will be fixed even the some vids that have that weird effect around the eyes the whole vid looks way better then orginal but even theia looks way better still then the orginal even if theia is not sharp as art
Imagine putting this technology on monitors so the display output for gaming is processed through Topaz, getting rid of the jaggies. That would be a game changer!

Videos shown here in demo are maximum 1-2 seconds, I installed the software for 8k upscaling and it took 3 hours for 14 seconds video. It toooooooooooooo slow. In this case I don't recommend, if someone knows other options please let me know. Thank You.
Love Topaz but not for us poor folks. I have an i7-7700k W/32GB RAM and an RX590 with 8GB. Useless with this resource hungry software. Hitpaw runs like a charm.
ehh as I see this program revert post-processing based well know filters/algorithm. That's all it did. If the presented movies wouldn't be changed deterministic, these apps do nothing worth it.
The results on that mountain video were horrible, and exmplifies why I still haven't bought this software even though I really want something like it. You're drawing our attention to the reduced compression artefacts in the background, meanwhile, you've introduced horrendous temporal artefacts on the foreground rocks. I see artefacts like that whenever I try to enhance seaside videos. The sea just looks horrific.
To be fair, those artifacts were already there due to the compression, the rock face has just fallen apart. But after AI it stands out a lot more, because you have less compression artifacts/blockiness overall.

For analog source material, it helps to have an external TBC so that you save time processing it in the computer.

In my experience, not scaling so much (like TV level SD) to 4k but going for 1080p works better and is SO MUCH faster

Hello, I tried to fix some footage 3840 x 2160 that was shot in daylight but was very noisy due to the incorrect ISO setting but I could not see any difference after it was processed using the app. Do you have any suggestions?

Ok here's a question. Why is it that Topaz Labs Video AI, which is the current version, does not have the fine tune adjustments slider when using the Proteus model to upscale to 4K? Seems like the current version, which I paid for, is missing a key feature. There is no link that I can find, to download Video Enhance AI anymore, so I can't even trial it.
Under Proteus, enhance, select manual, then select estimate. From there you can fine-tune.

Incedible piece of software. Just started using it. Currently I'm trying to find the sweet spot of video quality and file size in regards to the CRF setting. I turned in al the way down just to see the very best quality possible and I was deeply impressed. Obviously this resulted in a gigantic file. I'm wondering what other users are using for CRF setting.
Or you can use MOV (gigantic file with almost no compression) and then recompress to x265

Can you briefly explain why on the last video you turned down anti-aliasing? I'm thinking to get rid of pixelation you'd turn up anti-aliasing. Perhaps I'm not understanding how that control works.

Seldom have I felt like I got my money's worth on a software buy. Something obvious is always missing because egghead programmers either had to cut a corner to appease a project manager with a time table, or they are used to dealing with dev tool interfaces and not using software like a normal consumer, and make terrible feature or UI design choices

With VEAI, like you said, you're really getting your moneys worth, even at the price. And the updates are considerable, as opposed to usually just minor tweaks on other programs when they're updated.

I was a bit shocked with the functionality of the anti-alias slider to be honest... it seems that for this one, the more you move it LEFT the stronger the anti-aliasing is... this is EXTREMELY un-intuitive... considering every other slider the more you go RIGHT the stronger the effect is. I'm still a bit confused actually... is the de-blur stronger to the right still? These should really be split into two sliders which both get stronger as slider goes to the RIGHT only.
I was wondering about that also. It's extremely counterintuitive, unlike most of the other settings. Why does setting the ANTI aliasing to a NEGATIVE number result in an decrease in aliasing?? That's just weird.
@@bugatti314159 because it's combined with DeBlur option. The more you move it to the right above zero, the sharper it becomes. The more you move it below zero, the softer/anti-aliased it becomes.

If you have a video that contains compression. First enhance your quality video and make revert compression 85 to 100 then when you upscale make revert compression 0 because the revert compression reduce video's details

This helped me determine what compression looks like and noise but what is halo?
If you use the unsharpen mask with strong settings you will see a halo effect. Try it in Photoshop or Gimp. Some image sensors and hardware, for example dashcam footage, is notorious for applying unsharp on video and it creates nasty haloing artifacts in the compressed video.. It's a sharpening effect (fake contrast) that just creates details that shouldn't be there.

I have downloaded a trial version, 17 second clips took 50 minutes to render, so I am afraid to buy full version because, 1 or 2 minutes video clip will how much time take to render? over all render process is very slow.

yeah? I think you are thinking about 720p which has 720 pixels on the Y-axis. This is the X-axis. The DVD resolution is 720x576 for PAL.

@@mushi1985. Hi Mushi! We recommend only upscaling by 6x (or 600%) at a time. If you need to upscale past that, we'd recommend doing multiple passes.
best to use 2560x1080 its semi 1440 it looks almost the same and renders faster and looks almost as good as 4k not a big difference in quality compared to full 1440
on average it takes off 4 hrs of render time compared to full 1440p this is with using any rtx card I got 3060
I first read that gaia is the best so I had did all vids with that but 2 days ago I read that only works good for hd
so the vids I did do I rescaled em but with the art model and they come out more sharp but the thing with the art is it works best set on low but for some vids it gives the eyes a weird looking bugged look or like they have a water effect around em
so when some vids have that weird effect on low u have to use medium art but then that causes artifacts so then the only other choice is theia but it's not that sharp as art but it fixes that weird art problem

This software is really good. Just a pity that the is so slow :-/ needs at 3 hrs. movie whole 2 days (depending on processing power = iMac 2019)
Imagine putting this technology on monitors so the display output for gaming is processed through Topaz, getting rid of the jaggies. That would be a game changer!

Videos shown here in demo are maximum 1-2 seconds, I installed the software for 8k upscaling and it took 3 hours for 14 seconds video. It toooooooooooooo slow. In this case I don't recommend, if someone knows other options please let me know. Thank You.

ehh as I see this program revert post-processing based well know filters/algorithm. That's all it did. If the presented movies wouldn't be changed deterministic, these apps do nothing worth it.
The results on that mountain video were horrible, and exmplifies why I still haven't bought this software even though I really want something like it. You're drawing our attention to the reduced compression artefacts in the background, meanwhile, you've introduced horrendous temporal artefacts on the foreground rocks. I see artefacts like that whenever I try to enhance seaside videos. The sea just looks horrific.
To be fair, those artifacts were already there due to the compression, the rock face has just fallen apart. But after AI it stands out a lot more, because you have less compression artifacts/blockiness overall.
