@@MP-it5fs Hey, at 6:02 your raster map is saved as a (.trk) file type but at 10:01 your captions say you need the raster map (.lgb) file for the export. I don't get any (.lgb) files from TransDEM. Edit: I found the (.lgb) file created by TransDEM but it always puts it in the Vector Route folder
Thanks for this tutorial. I'm following along and when I open the DEM tif file in Microdem I get a message asking to locate GDAL. I gather there are several ways to get that. What do you recommend?
This is a fantastic tutorial. Just what I was looking for BUUUT, I have a very large prototypical route. It covers the whole county around Cleveland, Oh and encompasses 8 different railroads, over 20 Major routes criss-crossing all over the county, and a dozen different major yards. Is there an easier way to draw the vector route without having to draw over each of those major lines such as just using the box to encompass a whole area and capture the individual lines within? Thx for a great video. Dan
I was wondering that too. I'm trying to build the entire Houston Area, but it might be too large. I think we can work around that problem by making several maps, and then spawning them in like he did at 21:45 and then piecing them together. I'm guessing it won't work but it's an idea.
Sorry guys. This situation is beyond the scope of my experience. Sounds like an awesome project though. Try these for help. forum.transdem.de/index.php forum.transdem.de/viewforum.php?f=1
I am trying to do Buffalo New York to Erie Pennsylvania with both csx and ns track an maybe expand to Cleveland Ohio. Right now Buffalo to Erie is roughly 170 miles and about another 170 miles to Cleveland from Erie. This software will help a lot lol and I wish you luck on your route.
I haven't used TransDem for some time now but TransDem used to 'complain' if you tried to put something too large together. It would tell you to split your map. Once everything is completed though you can join all the pieces together in Trainz using the 'Merge Route' tab, which is what I did with my Aylesbury to London Marylebone route (mostly finished but released on the DLS anyway.)
Hello, I have a problem with transdem. So, I followed the tutorial, but when I go to the route, all that's there is the terrain, the raster doesn't show up, just the terrain. I've tried solving this issue, with no avail. Help would be greatly appreciated!
At 12:43 in the tape you show the User data/editing folder. I do not have any kuid files in there, just the named route file. And my UTM's do not show when I hit F9.The scenery folder and named route folder both good. what did I miss?
Hi @dak4482. Disregard the kuid folders in the video. The two critical folders you need are the named Route folder and the scenery folders which you say you have. I would either slowly retrace my steps to try to find the error, or start over completely. I've had to do both MANY times!
When I try and download TranzDEM it tells me "setup failed" at the end. It says that there is already another version of it installed, but there isn't and I've deleted anything related to it through the control panel as it told me to. It also keeps telling me "patch job logical error". Can someone help me?
Hi @billdeloach5868, You need to install ALL the "extras" included in the "Ziegler Tools" folder that came with the software. These will provide lots of "extras", including a list of "Providers" in the drop down menu.
My UTM tiles and ortho data do not show up on my route. When I load the route, it loads all of the 3D data but it covers it in the grassy texture. When I press F9 it just goes to a wire frame view. Selecting the different route layers doesn't change anything either. Any suggestions?
Hard to say what specifically went wrong, John. My suggestion would be to do as I have done countless times, start over, making sure you carefully accomplish each step along the way. Try again using a simple, short route, making sure you complete the Basic TransDEM Route successfully before moving on to creating the Orthophoto UTM tiles. Failing that, you could try posting specific questions on both the Trainz and Roland's TransDEM forums.
@BKMAN89 I never did figure out the ortho tile issue. I can only get DEM data to load. To change the ground view, go up to the little computer screen icon in the top left and click it. Hover over ground and select the ground view of your choosing.
Awesome. Great Tutorial. I want to try it for my routes for my Trainz Railfanning plan
Go for it!

No fuss, no cuss. Right? So the end product at approx: 20 minutes, can be modified in Trainz such as the textures?

Thanks for the Tutorial, I have tried several times and I can't get the textures to import, all I get are the default textures in Trains 22.
Great Tutorial

Thanks. For those of you using TransDem for the first time, I strongly recommend starting small. You can always expand later.

Good day MP451, I have already purchased transDEM. Could you please explain how to rescale a DEM file or how to create a model railway using transDEM?

Very helpful, thank you very much
Thanks @metrolinktrain3826.
Ηello ! Is there anything equivalent to the website (USGS NED DEM Data) for Europe?
Google Earth works and it's free these days.
THANK YOU
You're welcome.

@dak4482 no I didn't honestly. If I ever figure it out, I will let you know.

No volume on any of my devices. Other videos work fine, not sure what's wrong.
Your devices are working fine. Decided an audio track would be distracting so opted for titles only.
The Polygon function is not working. What could I be doing wrong?
Any of the Extents will work. Just be sure you enclose the entire Area of Interest.
