Me too, and I think it has a lot to do with the actor. He's just naturally shifty and kind of weaselly. In another Hitchcock episode it's played like he's the good guy being victimized but at the end he turns out to be a murderer, and it's not a big shock

This was not a particularly good one. Didn’t make much sense. He turned his back to walk into the grill. How did he see the license plate?
