Just picked up a Gorf cocktail table today. Hidden under a Donkey Kong cocktail, it hadn't been touched for about 20 years. Amazing game. Truly one of a kind.
I remember "GORF" makes a little cameo in the movie "Fast Times At Ridgemont High". It wasn't at the beginning where you see several arcade games during the opening credits. It was during a scene later the movie. I used to have a t-shirt that said "LONG LIVE GORF!" & it had the GORF character on it too. I wish I still had that shirt even though there is no way I could ever fit into it now. lol
Thank you for showing us all these rare machines. It's very instructive and it's a real pleasure to discover all these ancient games. Greeting from France !!
I had never played this game until recently at an arcade near Gettysburg PA called Timeline. The gameplay is fantastic and it's probably the sweetest looking cabinet I've ever seen! It screams early 80's! Looks very high end in person as well! I should be picking one up for myself on Friday to add to the collection, I can't wait
The sounds of this game bring back memories. I can almost smell the combination of pizza and cigarette smoke that came with almost every arcade of the time.
Gorf was a all time classic video game! Miss those days of pinball and video game arcades were they had about 15 or 20 pinball machines and 25 or 30 video games
This video makes me sad, knowing one of these was lost when the roof of a long-closed bowling alley collapsed. Nobody knew the arcade cabinets they had in their little arcade were still there until that happened. The world a Gorf, a Track & Field, several pinball tables, a Pac-Man, and a Neo Geo. A Ms Pac-Man's internals were all that was salvaged.
Ahh the memories playing that game in the arcade. Hearing that robotic voice again, goading you as you play, what does he say “Long Live Lawdor”? Thanks for sharing, wonderful video.
Man lots of memories with this one, Love this game. Todd i comment alot on the videos i forget to mention the time and CARE you guys take on the games and should be applauded for it. Wonderful Video
This channel is a gem. Love it. Next year I'm moving and I'm going to get a couple games in AA County MD. I'm probably going to ride up and see you guys.
GORF is such a out-there machine, nice to play, being it has 4 different games in one, then the end game boss ship. A thing to note when playing a two player game.... you dont take the usual alternate turns like most arcade machines, you only alternate one to two player when completing one of the four games. so lets say you are on Astro battles as player 1, player 2 dones not get to play till player 1 completes the round, so player 1 could potentially loose all their lives before player 2 gets to have a go..
I was really good at Gorf back in the Day. Yes I did make it through all the levels many, many times to reach "Space Avenger". (you can see the ranks to the right of the monitor in this video).
Hi Todd and gang! Salisbury Dan here! Some nice new info I'm sure went in one ear and lodged somewhere! Although I long for my first Pin' it makes me glad I was a little late and am/ will be again soon, a PC guy. Always loved messing with them though and with pinball etc creeping into my hobby quite nicely (a lot of retroblah) I always get a nugget of information and a friendly face. Sometimes the friendly (apologies staff/Martha! ;) ) face is enough in itself. Stay happy Todd. Your work is FAR from redundant.... Will maybe be ACTUAL history one day!?
TNT Amusements Inc *simple tip of the cap; subtle nod of respect* to Todd & all @ TNT & fans of fantastic escapism of every era. Damn I wish I could swim incredibly long distances suddenly! Bike ride will suffice!! :)
The last time I played a GORF machine was back in the late '90s. With the exception of the speech not working; the game was in great shape. Unfortunately, the game was in that arcade for only a week; as the CEO of the vending company that owned the arcade didn't want an "old game" sitting amongst the Street Fighters, Mortal Kombats, etc. "Long live GORF!"
I always wondered what this game was since you mentioned. Maybe the next Gorf you sell you could display the 5 games? The green light does make it unique. Sweet cab!
didn't play the game well...at least you saw 4 of the games!! Last game is fun...capturing the mothership! We have 2 more of these in warehouse, so perhaps someone will order one after seeing the video!
Actually, Gorf is called Gorf BECAUSE it is "frog" backwards. "Frog" was the nickname of Jay Fenton, the game's designer. He then justified calling it "Gorf" by making up a meaning for it: Galactic Orbital Robotic Force.
GORF was a great game! It was also a great port to the Commodore 64. (or was it the Vic20?) Great find! How much were you able to sell it for, if you don't mind me asking?
Where you can get that rubber piece that goes right inside the control panel in order to stabilize the joystick? I played a couple of machines that did not have this piece, and the ship was impossible to keep steady in order to score well. Any help would be appreciated. Great video BTW. I liked it and enjoyed it immensely.
I just bought one of these. It's in great shape and I freakin' love it...but the joystick light is burned out. I forgot that it's supposed to light up.
Love the video and I subscribed! I do have to point out, you said the Gorf Joystick was unique.. but actually it is the same as Tron, (a translucent Blue color), Satan's Hollow, (Red) and another game that escapes my memory right now that had a cute little Green Alien in the artwork. Gorf is one of my all time favorites. My full size Gorf was Severely damaged during shipping, (literally a fork lift poked a hole in the side and dislodged everything.. ). I do have a Cabaret Gorf but the sound cuts in and out. Also the connector for the sound is a bit burned. (I cleaned the contact but it still cuts in and out). I have had Circuit board traces crack on my computers. I bet that is the problem here. You said you Reflowed a lot of the traces.. COULD YOU PLEASE!!!!!! Do a video on reflowing circuit Board Traces??? I think I am good with soldering.. but.. I would really like to learn from a Pro. I am skilled in many, many things, (I am old, born in the early 60's and played ALL of the Original Coin Op games when they first came out). Hmm, just to clarify.. I did not play Computer Space when it came out .. that was a very rare machine that was only seen in the big cities.. But I do own one.... The Motherboard for monitor broke into many pieces during shipping .. It is most likely beyond repair. And the Monitor, (a magnavox tv), it not something you can find to replace. Maybe if I get good enough at Reflowing Traces on a circuit board.. I might be able to fix it and get some new Vacuum Tubes to get my Computer Space Online!
Hi I just bought a gorf arcade and I was wondering what the settings on the screen are Ming is just green and I can't seem to get it to the right color
Gorf has always been my most favorite arcade game ever. I love the multi screens, the voice, simply a one of a kind.
Sharon Sandpiper A great "Multi-Game"...first time the concept was used!

I loved that game but my local arcade didn't have it. It was one of those games you'd find on the road, at a pizza joint or whatnot.
Thank you for showing us all these rare machines. It's very instructive and it's a real pleasure to discover all these ancient games. Greeting from France !!
Thank you for commenting and "Merci"!
Loved Gorf it was a very unique and stood out.
rarecoolitems And folks are looking for them again!
I have one of these in my game room. Love it!
Jeremy Pruitt I have a cabaret version in my game room too!

New metal control panels are made too with the artwork too.
One of my all-time faves! Thanks for sharing.
Getting the kill shot on the flag ship was the best! :)
The amount of work put into this system is impressive. Really cool !
:-)
Best game Eva.

Richard Bain Yes...this was in almost every arcade you walked into.

RetroGamerVX Thank you!!
I fell in love with this game at my 10th? Birthday party at Chucky Cheese. The audio during the Laser Attack stage has burned into my memory 👍
I want it!!!!!!!!!!!
Ahh the memories playing that game in the arcade. Hearing that robotic voice again, goading you as you play, what does he say “Long Live Lawdor”? Thanks for sharing, wonderful video.

Thank you Cliff for your comment...we all appreciate it!
Was talking about GORF in a chatroom. Had to come to yt to visit an old friend which I gave plenty of quarters in the 1980s.
we just got in a cabaret Gorf for an overhaul.

Yes...a great concept!
I mis this game so much. I got so good at it. My highest score was almost 500,000 and played it for almost 4 hours.

I've always wondered just what exactly the Gorf game is saying when it says something that sounds like "Slob leap solar", which can be heard at 9:34.

"Long live GORF!"
All hails Gorf.
+TNT Amusements Inc That was a clever joke by referencing the movie Frogs with Gorf.
Thank you TNT Amusements
gabriel ortiz Glad you liked it! It turned out terrific and I am sure you are playing it alot! We're here when you want another classic!

Spent a ton of quarters on this one.
Many did!

It was 2K...therse turn up from time to time...but people are hanging on to them...
Yes it was! I played it on the C64. The one I had was on cartridge.
Active Distributing wow.. I used to love backing the truck up to their narrow loading dock down a steep ramp.. 666 N. Broad St. ? Thanks for video!
YES..Active was big in their day...getting tractor trailers of Asteroids (50 per truck) and couldn;t get them fast enough!
Best game ever!
Kool Tips 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I really think my Buggy Challenge would make a good video. That was the FIRST off road game!

I miss gorf!
Inachu Ikimasho It's now turning up in classic arcades!
I would take those lights out and replace it with LED lights to save even more electricity.
Inachu Ikimasho yes....you can switch out the light bulbs!
I just bought one of these. It's in great shape and I freakin' love it...but the joystick light is burned out. I forgot that it's supposed to light up.
+Jamie Laszlo yes...its two small bulbs...I think #74
Todd you are a funny guy....lmao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
