In the morning hours of 8-22-23, Hurricane Idalia slammed the Perry, Florida area. Many structures were damaged or destroyed, trees and powerlines fell on roadways and compromised structures even more. Residents attempted to flee the area as sustained winds reached over 110mph.
This is probably the very best storm Channel out there.

I may not live there or own property there, but I really wish this had not happened to that community.
I remember, my grandfather use to keep many generators and whenever we had hurricanes in Miami he would pull his generators out and go around his neighborhood to make sure his elderly neighbors had power.

I live in Bradenton. We were spared Idalia's wrath. My brother lives in Tallahassee. I haven't spoken to him yet. I'm sure all communication is down right now.

In 1990 I was driving across Florida to the Panhandle area ahead of a big storm. The next morning millions of sea creatures were on the beach. My cousin who had lived south of Panama City for 50 years said she's never seen anything like that before.

A lot of places in warm southern States where dogs live outside with shelter. Dog looked happy and well-fed.

Yet people will continue slapping up cheaply made structures in hurricane prone areas then cry when it's flooded or knocked down by another storm. Can't blame the insurance companies for abandoning Flori-duh.

No one is slapping up weak structures. These buildings were built decades before the new codes. This is the first major storm in modern times to hit this area.

I never thought of it that way, but I think you're probably right. I'm in Jacksonville & am just glad this day is over. It's a complete shocker for Perry to get hit so hard inland.
