Had a church sister client, the Saturday before the wedding we were at her bachelorette party that me and my partner also did, we even cooked , she was two hours late and dropped the bomb that the wedding was cancelled, she did not pay us not a dime

Melanie, several years ago I read a book titled "Catering by Milton" written by the late Milton Williams. He was a caterer to the old school entertainers who never advertised, only attained clients by word of mouth. In his book he said alot of the same or similar things that you should never reveal to your clients, period! You look gorgeous, as always. Take care 💞

Oversharing has been my biggest Issue I spend so much time trying to go into detail of what I can do for a clients event that before I know it they don't need a decorator anymore.

Thank you for sharing all this very vital information. I made a big mistake I did a visual board the client stole my ideal and had someone else to do it... lesson learned and might I add: Please please make sure your contact is signed and dated and you've received that nonrefundable deposit. I think people are less likely to go too someone else once a deposit has been made..
So sorry that happened! But an excellent lesson learned! Better is on the way!
Hi Melanie. Thank you so much for all your videos but particularly this one. My first wedding is next month and I have already made most of these mistakes. Because I was using this event to determine whether I would pursue this as a career, I broke a lot of the rules and you would probably pass out. LOL. I have been studying and gleaning from your wisdom and designing skills since the days of your foam board backdrops. I will share with you all that I have done with the event and hope that you approve of my work. I'm praying that God blesses me with an opportunity to take one of your classes this year. Until then may God continue to bless you and fill you with His love and wisdom to continue to share with the rest of us.

I love decorating, but i feel like people wants to take advantage of me not being a professional, i have done weddings, baby showers, banquets parties , anyway i realize telling them i need a deposit to buy the colors they ask for they are thinking the linens and things belongs to them when the occasion is over

I feel better knowing that others have made and learned from the same mistakes as me...i had 2 brides use my ideas and not use me..one took her Centerpieces DIRECTLY from my portfolio. And the worst part was i was doing it for free to gain experience 😢 i lost all hope and stopped for 8years

Great advice. Question for you though. As you speak about not talking negatively about another vendor to a client...What if YOU KNOW a vendor is a hot mess. And you know this because you know they have messed up many other clients to the point where lawsuits were involved to get their monies back. Do you caution this new client coming to you OR do you keep your mouth shut and let them experience the same treatment? What if they press you for details?
I would just advise them to do their research on everyone including me...
