I've got a 1986 trek 830. the seatpost diameter for the 1986 model is 25.8mm. I dont know what year the sizes changed, but this is just for anyone's information.
i actually just finished a similar build on a trek 800. went single speed, standard drop bars, and have an old school elastomer fork on it for smoother dirt road cruising. i never knew about the bull bars, i think they are a pretty cool option.
@@OmarIllustrated elastomer fork just means its old. lol. they used to use rubber (what is referred to as an elastomer) as a spring in old forks because it made the fork less bouncy prior to them actually putting hydraulic dampness in forks lie they do now .
Hey Omar! I'm looking to do a similar conversion on what looks like the same year model of the 830. Could you tell me what the proper seatpost diameter is?
@@OmarIllustrated Thanks for the quick reply. So far the build is going good, other than the frozen cranks, frozen stem and stuck bottom bracket lol. I found a wheel with an 8 speed cassette, so hopefully I can convert it to a 10 or 11 speed gravel bike.
@@matthewhuang3092 oh man! Maybe check out a bike shop... mine charged me like $30 labor to swap out bottom bracket and headset. Hope your bike turns out well. I’m gonna do some more upgrades to mine this year!
Thanks for sharing, the bike looks sick. I want to convert a ‘91 trek 7000 from a 3x7 to a 1x10 and make it a city commuter. I already put on some maxxis dth after seeing your review, and I have to say they are awesome. If you ever want to go down the gravel bike route, I’ve seen a few people use the Surly troll fork that way they can convert to a threadless stem and the fork has many mounting points for racks and accessories. Many of the old mtbs have a large enough headtube to fit a 1 1/8” fork.
Just checked axle to crown length for that for is 420mm... the trek 830 is closer to 390mm. Thanks for your feedback. Good luck with your build, hope i helped a little bit. DTH are wicked sweet for sure.
Hi Omar, good work. I have the same bike, 1993 model, but with 100% original parts. Please, can you give me the references or the source of the stem you used?
Dope stuff Omar! Show us some more of the build itself. Would be awesome. Keep up the good work!

I've never heard of an elastomer fork. Sounds interesting. Sweet, I bet as a single speed it rips. Kinda regret not going that route sometimes.

Hey are you still making videos?
For you, anything
If you put 65psi in the tires, it might feel faster because of the extra road buzz but you would be increasing the rolling resistance.
Always running into issues when doing custom builds I hate it at the time but part of the "fun" lol.....nice build cant wait to see the next video
