Who else remembers hearing this on buffy? That show had some great music ❤️ who’s listening and feeling uplifted in 2024?
Sarah Mclachlan typically gets featured in first and last episodes of a series' seasons: the place of honor.
Just heard the song on Buffy tonight 😊 its 2024 and I'm 42 yrs old and I actually felt the song now because I was listening with my heart❤
Me, this is my anthem now

Praying for my sick dog dying of heart failure. 🙏
St. Francis patron saint of animals.
Lifting up the both of you to the Lord ❤
“Not to hurt our humble brethren the animals is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission - to be of service to them wherever they require it.” Saint Francis of Assisi , Saint Patron of Italy .
Today I was denied for a third time at an attempt to get an apartment. I felt really discouraged, inadequate. I often ask god for signs that I’ll be alright. Well just now after looking at more listings, I went to put on some music while I prepared dinner and this song was already playing on my music app. I was never listening to any religious music before and I have never heard of this prayer until now but it was on my phone.
As a Franciscan myself, I can say that St Francis never wrote this prayer. It is only a century old, and does not appear in any of his official writings, or that of those such as St Bonaventure, who wrote about him. However, it does reflect his spirituality and charism. St Francis did write "Canticle of the Creatures" also known as "Canticle of the Sun. " The hymn ""All Creatures of Our God and King" is based on the "Canticle." Sarah McLachlan does a lovely rendition of "The Peace Prayer" or "Prayer of St. Francis: which first appeared in a French publication in 1912. The prayer was widely distributed during WWI in order to encourage people to pray for peace and an end to the war. In 1967, Sebastian Temple set the prayer to music, and it became popularly sung in church's during the Vietnam War. You can find that version under the title, "Make Me a Channel of Your Peace."
That's very interesting. One way or another, we ALL should be singing prayers for peace. Thank you for the post.
I am on a spiritual journey as we speak and it is this song that I listen to as I walk to church on Sundays. I'm hoping to be baptized by this Christmas☮☮✝✝🙏🙏💞💞💗💗
Yesterday, 18 years ago for my wedding ceremony I read this prayer in front of my wife to be I hope and pray to Saint Francis, the pure Devotie of God that I made to fill these vows in my relationship with my wife and with everyone
I'm an Agnostic. I believe there is "something", but don't know what that is and the faith of not-knowing has deepened my spiritual life in such astounding ways.
I'm also a therapist. I open my office, before clients, listening to Sarah's version of St Francis. My purpose is (as the Bodhisattva Vows dictate) "to relieve suffering" and this song/prayer opens my heart in such a way as to hear and love and help every person who comes to see me.
Thank you, Sarah, for the gift of this prayer to music.
I'm an Agnostic too but I apreciate with all my hart the beauty of a Christian song and the art behind it and above all the meaning. I paint sometimes and I want some day to paint an icon with Jesus. I think life is beautiful when you are kind and belive in humans and hope or love.
Well said.
trust me, " believe in something big" is GOD. you should search in the right place. I was like u, but i find GOD. sorry about my english, i'm from brazil. xoxo
What country are you from? I am a Catholic from the Philippines but l teach yoga meditation to whole schools biznessmen rich people and politicians. I have respect for all peoples and culture that promote peace, non-violence, non-terrorism and Faith in the Father Almighty God.
Hello Barbara Toscano.
here after Buffy .. ugh such a beautiful song...
St. Francis of Assisi is one of my most beloved saints as is this prayer beautifully sung by Sarah.
Born in Italy circa 1181, Saint Francis of Assisi was renowned for drinking and partying in his youth. After fighting in a battle between Assisi and Perugia, Francis was captured and imprisoned for ransom. He spent nearly a year in prison - awaiting his father's payment - and, according to legend, began receiving visions from God. After his release from prison, Francis heard the voice of Christ, who told him to repair the Christian Church and live a life of poverty. Consequently, he abandoned his life of luxury and became a devotee of the faith, his reputation spreading all over the Christian world.
Later in life, Francis reportedly received a vision that left him with the stigmata of Christ - marks resembling the wounds Jesus Christ suffered when he was crucified - making Francis the first person to receive such holy wounds. He was canonized as a saint on July 16, 1228. During his life he also developed a deep love of nature and animals and is known as the patron saint of the environment and animals; his life and words have had a lasting resonance with millions of followers across the globe. Each October, many animals the world over are blessed on his feast day.

they say that one day Saint Francis preached to the birds , they stood silent listening at him - He said " be grateful to God , because He gave you so beautiful feathers and wings so that you can fly in the sky " 🙂
I'm not crying, you are!! 😭😭😭
I Love this prayer.I grew up saying this prayer. To this day I say this prayer every nite.Thks for sharing this for those who would like to say it.God Bless
There is no Divine Voice greater than Sarah McLachlan... ;-)
This needs to be played on the Moon
*St.francis pray for us.....🙏*
Pray for yourself.. God listens to your prayers as much as Saint Francis.
For a long time I've struggled to get my life together. I came across this prayer in a book called Buddist Boot camp and it helped me sort out some of the issues in my life. A few months later, I came across this video and was so moved by it. I have been a fan of Sarah Mclachlan for nearly 20 years now and to have her sing this just adds to the comfort I get from the words I get from this prayer. These are certainly words to live by.
Tears as I came to this through GOOGLE - I have loved her because of the recording of her singing Angel. That is the most deeply spiritual song from our times that I know. Once I could understand the depth of her consciousness I was again moved to tears. She is truly something that blesses us.
Interesting that it became a part of a Buddhist book. It is deeply Christian, and written by a Catholic priest who was later deemed a saint.🙂
@@bettylopez2383 I feel like it's all pointing to the same thing 🙏🏼
@@bettylopez2383 St Francis was not a priest. He gave up his life of wealth and power to live in poverty with lepers. People followed him and they became a brotherhood but he didn’t want any of them to be clergy. They were to live with nature and be the humblest of the humble. He also went to the Middle East to try to stop the crusades and make peace between the Christians and the Muslims. There are “Franciscan” priests now but you don’t have to be Catholic or even Christian to be a Franciscan. He also wrote the beautiful “Canticle of the Sun” praising God’s creation.
God and Guru bless you dear one. That's the power if this divine prayer. Stay blessed. Aum Guru Aum.

Played this song at my dad's funeral ❤
I've just lost a friend in Brazil who was murdered by gunshot attack..We all are having hard times...
Thanks St Francis to help me.
Daniel Marques praying for your continued peace
Had this song played at my grandmother's funeral today. Made me tear up...
May she find the True Peace.
Xiana Allison, similar, this is a go-to song at funerals in my family. Makes me tear up, too. But, also gives me good memories of the high school where I went, where St. Francis was our patron saint. May your grandmother rest in peace.
I had this song played at my father's funeral 8 years ago. It's beautiful, isn't it.?
Since my middle name from birth is Frances, I always prayed to St. Francis; asked him to make me a loving, giving person. This version is so far the best, thanks to Sarah MacLachlan's School of Music. The children did a fantastic job.
This is always my go to song when I feel like quitting or giving up on life. This is exactly what this world needs to "really hear" right now.
IKR I wish more artists would do stuff like this with the youth today👏
This is a catholic prayer!
I just adore Sarah & this soulful version of this prayer 🪷 My father introduced me to this prayer, and St. Francis is the patron Saint of animals so it holds a very dear place in my heart and I am so grateful that Sarah McLachlan chose to put this song out into the world with her angelic voice. ❤
Prayer of Saint Francis
Sarah McLachlan
Lord make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred let me sow love
Where there is injury, pardon
Where there is doubt, faith
Where there is despair, hope
Where there is darkness, light
And where there is sadness, joy
O divine master grant that I may
not so much seek to be consoled as to console
to be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love
For it is in giving that we receive
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned
And it's in dying that we are born to eternal life
Amen
Angel Shining Thank you! Jesus be with you.. Sarah recorded this precious song ,for a reason.. Jesus bless you!
Thank you very much for taking the trouble to write it out. Much appreciated.
I am! I’m doing my best to move forward from tyranny, today. God Bless us all who believe w/o seeing. Thank you, Sarah Maclachlan & all the students for a great production.
Perfect timing for this song for all generations to hear and take to heart from around the world. Peace.

What a great gift God has given this kind and gentle soul named Sarah! We are blessed to be able to enjoy her worshipful voice!
It brings me comfort in a world gone hateful.
And Dark Willow is vanquished through the power of love and friendship. Nice job Zander!
Just what we need in 2022

Given the events of this week in New Orleans, Minnesota and Dallas, we all need to sing this prayer.....together!!

The power of St. Francis Prayer into my daily spiritual practice. Saint Francis is knocking on my door. He’s everywhere I am. Sometimes I recite it myself, and other times I listen to it sung by others. Like all great prayers, the St. Francis Prayer is both a spiritual practice and a powerful spiritual teaching. The more you recite the prayer, the more it lives in you. It teaches you something every time you pray it. It is the ego’s song of surrender to the divine. We pray it so as to attune ourselves to our true Self, and to be an instrument used by the divine. The opening line reminds me of the first beatitude given by Jesus: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. We come to the divine with an open mind and open heart. Of ourselves we are nothing; the divine is everything. The ego is just an appearance; the soul is our true identity.
There is barely a greater joy than being used as an instrument for a great love. Each time I sit down to write a post here for example, I recite my post Prayer. The short version is: “I am in God’s hands. I am here opening a space to listen and post my message from God to everyone in the world. God is ready, therefore so am I. All I do is listen. And take notes. And enjoy the process. Amen.
So beautiful
This popped into my head this morning and I just had to hear it. Blessings to all. ❤️ 🤗

This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. She really makes the words come alive. It’s my go to suicidal song
She helps us remember who we really are. There is a Goddess in all of all❤

A great song for the tragedy that has occurred in Brussels, Belgium and other recent stricken communities!
There is no greater blessing than a life in service to those who are "the least among us", be they 4 legged or bipedal. Service to them is service to God. St. Francis is the example. :-) thank you Sarah for embracing the spirt and helping the helpers. Truly invaluable! You're in our hearts and prayers. Merry Christmas. :-)
May god bless you all

Fantastic song.. Sarah McLachlan is one of the very few artists that I would seriously consider trying to go to their concert. Your songs are so beautifully sung they bring up tears.
