Started having lots of shedding and breakage after seeing a stylist for one year. Switched to a new stylist and same happened. Nothing was working so I cut my near shoulder length hair off and started taking care of it myself. Still saw shedding. Finally went to a doctor and found out it was anemia and vitamin D deficiency. Now I’m seeing less shedding and little breakage. Sometimes the issue is internal as in my case. Thus my suggestion before doing the big chop like I did go see a doctor to make sure it’s not internal.
I do love these videos Dominique because I learn so much. Unfortunately with all the travel I do it’s hard to find a good stylist so watching videos like yours really has helped me. Thanks!

Hi Dom!I don't want t hijack your channel but EVERYTHING you said is spot on. Yourself, Colleenmariet and Hairlista have all helped me so much in the past 12 months. I had to turn to UA-cam after a bad relaxer and then too much protein (don't get me started on that!). You also HAVE TO train your stylist. Unless you have ridiculously thick hair, the relaxer should not stay in more than 15 minutes...and make sure they work fast! No watching Telemundo and/or helping their kid with homework over the phone while applying your relaxer. Remember YOU are the paying client! And coat the ends of your hair before you go to your stylist...use Vaseline and slick it back in a ponytail if necessary. A really good protein treatment for severely damaged hair is the nexus emergency polymedic reconstructor but please, please, please make sure that you wash that sucker out completely WITH SHAMPOO and then follow up with a deep moisturizing conditioner (NO MORE PROTEIN AFTER THAT TREATMENT IS NECESSARY). And get regular trims. Let go of the idea of LONG hair...a really cute cut is so 'sexy, sleek and spicy' (Sexy Chocolate - *mic drop*!) I got a really cut short bob (similar to Gabrielle Union's new do) and I loved it more than I thought I would. I could say that my hair literally sprung to life after cutting off a few inches of damaged ends. I like is much that I plan on keeping it for a while. Again, thanks for sharing. Be blessed! xoxo

Liam - I seriously LOVE YOU. Your comments are awesome! I agree 100%. I got lucky with Gloria the hairstylist. She watches me like a hawk and is so good at what she does. She also explains the process as she's working or tells why she's switched hair products, etc. etc. I've learned so much from her. It's funny, when I let go of being obsessed with having long hair, my hair grew! LOL! xoxoxoxoxxo

And I/we LOVE YOU! Gloria IS a blessing (now clone her damn it and send her clone to NYC :)). But seriously, a really good stylist is key to a successful hair journey (i.e., if you're not confident enough to relax/texlax yourself at home). So thanks again to wonderful youtubers such as yourself who help to educate so many people! Somethings are common sense - like if your head feels like its on fire during a relaxer then WASH IT OUT!! - but there are other tips, product information and simply sharing experiences on what to do, what NOT to do on these platforms, that is such a huge benefit and I am very grateful. Much love from The Big Apple... Muah!

As a high schooler that doesn’t have much of a back bone, cutting my hair is only going to remind me of the nightmares I had when I first got it chopped. I was heavily bullied cause of my hair and when we got my hair cut people still made fun of me.
I don’t talk back to people or tell them off so I just bottle it in. I’m personally fine with having short hair but I don’t want to be made fun of anymore.

I have to fire my current hairstylist and I'm so sad about it. I love her but she's keeping my hair from retaining length. She overlaps my relaxer every time she does my hair and gives me a hard time about relaxing every 12 weeks, which in my opinion is better for my and my hair than relaxing every 8 weeks. I also get so much breakage whenever she blows my hair out which I don't even understand because that doesn't happen when I blowdry my own hair?? I'm nervous about trying a new stylist right now so I'm going to self-relax with the help of a family member while I search reviews high and low. I'm around the Boston area if anyone sees this and knows of a good hairstylist I can go to!

Same here love I been knowing her since middle school she's been my stylist for 4 yrs now and I get my hair trimmed twice a year , Perm it once a year, deep condition n protective styles throughout the year, thick hair runs and my family for which I learned to appreciate now that I'm a adult. Since going to her which is once a year for my bday 'I pamper myself yearly ' it's always thick n long before I get my perm , deep condition, ends trimmed by her after leaving the salon my hair feels thinner after a few days I have to deep conditioned again and every day is like hair rehab for about 2 months I researched my hair which is 4C and have been on hair journey for 10yrs now I know what products to use and not , set backs and come ups but I managed to keep it healthy n thick, I discuss this with her each time smh she has the same hair type as mine! It's going to be hard but I gotta do what's best for me and my hair I work too hard for this 4C almost tailbone length I got this and so do you!

I believe that it requires patience in order for you to keep your hair healthy. I find most people I know with very little patience and a lot of self hate for their own hair. A lot of times they neglect their hair because of it. You must realize that unless you start to love your hair you will nurture and give it the TLC it needs. Then you will see your best results ever!

These were great and very important tips! I have never had over-processed hair in the past I did go to a stylist the first two was just cutting on my hair every two weeks every time I went in, the third one she really helped me out a lot as in talking about oils deep conditioning hot oil treatments scalp massages, and then I just went on UA-cam and did the rest of my research. The only thing I can say about over-processed hair or damaged hair is to really deep condition every single week and also add hot oil treatments as well and keep the ends moisturized and sealed. Thank you so much your hair is very healthy and I love it God bless you🙏🌹

Hairdresser must have used a super strength after running out of the mild relaxer I brought which I should have just put in myself. After washing my hair I discovered it was tangled, spongy, slimy dry, and 4 years later still very itchy. I had to get it shaved off and my hair is still different textures and lengths, very short and barely able to grow so I can not style it at all. I have tried just about everything but am still having to resort to wigs or hats and searching for a miracle at this time. I will look into your recommendations.

I've always enjoyed your videos! They are informative with practical information. My stylists (of 10 years) over processed my hair a few weeks ago and it completely broke off in the back. This wasn't the first time, but absolutely the worst breakage I've had in a very, very long time. After the shock and crying; I decided to, once again, take over relaxing my own hair. I'd prefer to pay someone to do it, but I can't keep dealing with my hair growing and someone else causing it to break. So the cut has happened and now I'm just researching and making sure I do what I can to prevent this from happening again.

Hi Style dominination, I hope I addressed you appropriately. Thank you for this video, it was really insightful. However, I do really need help. I relaxed my extremely thick 4c natural hair about 2 weeks ago and I'm both disappointed for the second time and don't know what to do next. I live in Manchester, UK and can't seem to find a good hair stylist here. It's been from one horrible story to another till I had to settle with making cornrows myself and living on wigs. The last being the relaxing of my hair that I had been meticulously growing natural for two years after cutting off a previous over processed hair. The stylist that relaxed my hair two weeks ago was so distracted, talking through the time, she even forgot to put vaseline or some protective petroleum jelly around the perimeter of my scalp and I had to remind her to do it. She wasn't checking the time on the dark and lovely super relaxer i got nor did she do a strand test. The result was that my roots and mid- lenght was relaxed with a little burn to my scalp but my ends are like semi relaxed and still a bit natural. Its windy and semi cold from the passing winter. I didn't know I wasn't to comb the hair wet, thanks to you. However when I comb my hair, I experience shedding and some breaking, but don't know if it's the weather or the bad hair relaxing I got or natural because I learnt everyone loses an amount of hair each day which is normal. I don't know if I should relax the ends now so it would be uniform or if I should just keep doing protective styles (wigs works well with me though) till its about six months and then relax again. I wonder if I could get a reference from you about a good hair stylist that knows what to do to get my hair back and can relax my hair properly.

I honestly just want to cry. I have always had an afro and i then relaxed in grade 8 and i thought it was the best decision is had ever make but it realised lately that my hair was just shorter , it has so many split ends and i knew no one that would cut off my split ends so i kept them like that. Now whilst watching this video i slightly pulled my hair as she said to see if it should break offf and it did😭😭😞😭😞 i might have to go for the big chop. I'm so scared because i literally relaxed this this Sunday 😭😭I've always wanted long hair and it thought it was getting there but now the process has just been reversed and wow i am so hurt.😭😭😌😌😌😌

then she blow dryed it and it was longer then i expected. cause i was used to my hair curly and nappy. it was straight and soft and My sister applied minovial its a hair proudct after she braided it in 2 braids and it was nice :)

I made the mistake of overprocessing by pushing it all to the limit by putting some relaxer on my hair...which I've done a couple of times before in the past but this time for some reason my hair just started coming out in huge balls and lumps with each combing or brushing and I'd literally cry every time I had to flush it down the toilet...I didn't understand it because as I've stated earlier I have placed some onto my already relaxed hair...also prior to it popping off tremendously I noticed it wouldn't hold any product...I would use styling gel to try and put it up into a ball...you know a lil protective style along with a lil spritz but the style would not hold...it would always resort back to its gummy like state...I'm now just refraining from heat and perming and is keeping my hair braided and I also make sure to keep my scalp greased with black castor oil and peppermint oil atleast once a week and I also keep a leave in conditioner with water inside a spray bottle that I use once a week to keep my dry brittle and gummy hair moisturized....I also ended up doing a big chop because it was either that or watch it continuously be ripped out by the comb furthering the split ends damage...I haven't permed since March and see a little progress not much but patience is the key so I'm waiting to see how this goes...I'm taking care of my hair way more seriously now...it takes forever to see any smidgen of new growth but I will keep it going...Also if you have any regimens using oils remember to get a nice clarifying shampoo to get rid of the buildup from your hair and scalp...
I just want my hair back...I was the one at time that got complimented on my hair and also was told that they wish they had hair like mine but here it is totally damaged and having to start completely over from scratch...Wish me luck on my journey!

Literally looked up a video like this, not because I have relaxed hair or am planning to get it.
But because I literally just saw a video of a stylist giving a client a "touch up". In which the clients hair look like typical very short, broken-off relaxed hair.
She talked about I guess ,criticism she had on her channel. And how she has a license in cosmetology for the past 20+ years. And how she knows what she's doing.
Meanwhile the woman with the short ,broken off relaxed hair. Getting a touch up. Is literally having her entire head covered in relaxer. She wasn't just relaxing the new growth. She was relaxing the already relaxed hair. I.E over processing.
Then talked about it being chemicals doesn't matter. Cause the very water you drink has chemicals.
Why do so many stylist do this???🤦🏽‍♀️
