  • This video is all extra long. I've given you some guideposts below in case you want to skip around. The main issue though is that after coming out, I'm trying to set some boundaries with my very conservative Evangelical Christian mother and in the process learning a lot. It probably boils down to being vulnerable and trying to be myself with others. I also talk a little about journaling and what all this has to do with transition.
Story about some issues with my mom:
0:10 - The strained relationship with my mom because of coming out
1:20 - My mom sends me a prayer
    2:56 - Another incident
    3:45 - Weighing my options
    4:41 - I decide to say something
5:52 - Trying to assert boundaries and feeling empowered!
    7:02 - Feeling disappointed
    7:33 - Still worth it
8:25 - The next time I talked to her
    9:52 - being vulnerable
    ---
    What this story means:
10:28 - It's just a tiny step to trying to be myself
11:36 - Exciting but also scary
    12:12 - I've been in self-protective mode maybe forever
    ---
    Other notes:
    12:32 - Journaling
    13:12 - I'm starting to re-see myself a little more
    13:26 - seasons of excitement, progress;
13:56 - how it all relates to transition
14:06 - Happy? Moving along. Making progress.
About me: I'm a nonbinary trans FTM-ish POC documenting my experiences and the latest transition in my life: HRT.

thats really awesome that things are getting better with your mom. please dont blame yourself for building a protective distance- its very brave of you to be vulnerable but its not a bad thing that you are shielding yourself emotionally, you do what you have to in order to survive and you dont owe anybody your emotional intimacy, and your trust deserves to be earned. :)
