Never saw this video before now. Have been a huge HOL fan since walking into a dank tiny record store in Tulsa, Oklahoma and they were playing the Butterfly album(which had just came out). 1988 and “In a Room” had this retro yet modern sound that stopped me in my tracks. I bought the cd immediately and every single and album release that followed. I had a friend ask why I kept buying their stuff coz he had never heard of them. Popularity means nothing and people are dumb. You know quality when you hear it. He reached out a few decades later saying how much he loves them now. House of Love is a band that never got their shine, but those who do know their worth…shine on.
I sort of get you, I think their timing was wrong and got lost in the pool of all the other bands that were around. Oasis came with that big album and the personality. I don’t think H.O.L could have pulled off the arena circuit and not really pulling off the follow up albums. I love them, but Oasis had the MOJO at that time, whether you love them or hate them.
James??,What planet are you on?Are you talking about James rip off The Smiths phase or James Gold Mother cash in on Madchester phase??Either way they sound absolutely fuck all like House Of Love.Do you actually listen to music or are you just spouting shit.Best off just settling down now and saying fuck all.Dozy twat
It's about attitude and personality above all. Oasis were born rock stars. Having said that some HOL songs are miles better that the best of Oasis and Blur together
I remember when Never came out after a long feverish wait, the expectations both among the public and the press were so high that suddenly, after unconditional love, many were so disappointed that they gradually began to turn their backs on the House Of Love. Probably everyone would have wanted them to remain eternally fixed to the sound of Creation, I don't know, that's what I've thought. Certainly few people understood that Chadwick was instead maturing and acquiring more and more personality and style, as is evident to all those who loved the butterfly album and have continued to follow him over the years. And Never was/is a superb single!
Still one of my favourite bands to listen to. I’ve never really played any of their stuff myself [guitar]. There are few bands that I love that I’ve never murdered by doing a cover or two, but THOL is one! A perfect band. I was so happy when She Paints came out. A long time coming and perfect fodder for us middle agers.
Why is this band so underestimated is one of my own conspiracy theory. Do not ask me to explain, I don't have a theory. I just feel that I cannot be the only fan of that band.

It's such a crime to see a great song and band getting only 18,000 views!
Definitely one of the best bands of the late 80s-early 90s. So glad I had the privilege of seeing them live back in the day.
Probably the only to keep commenting on this video but the House Of Love are Top Ten greatest British bands of the last 40 years.Guy is a genius
Don't understand how Oasis became so big and this band are completely unknown.Much better songs.

As fresh as the day I bought the House of Love (Butterfly) album as a teenager. The album has never left me. A treat to see them playing it. ❤❤❤
30 years later: That's still a wicked bridge. Style!
The most overlooked band ❤️

Bands don't make music like this anymore...
I just can't hear this too many times
Great performances by Pete and Terry...very focused, sober and interested
Goosebumps, still, after 30+ years...
Great group ! Very undervalued for its era.
I'm really glad I decided to dive into this band's discography. Absolutely amazing.

Beatles and the stones is a simple yet beautiful riff around dmajor that's hard to butcher.❤
