I really like having a collapsible daypack along because my main bag is a large backpack which would be too much for a day trip. My daypack folds into its own pocket so it barely takes any space.

Sri Lanka is pretty popular with travelers, and MUCH safer than Latin America and the caribbean. I'm sure you know how to search in UA-cam. You can find literally thousands of recent travel vlogs from Sri Lanka! Regarding Singapore, it's probably among the top few safest countries in the WORLD! No arguments about that, but there aren't many attractions there either.

I feel very lucky to have him as a Dad! As far as luggage, I am fine with either but most of the luggage that has the additional 'features' that I like such as a laptop compartment are all hard shell so that seems to be the current trend for most companies.

The other items I would have just purchased there and just take the L on them and leave them behind when I left, but I'm also a guy who wants to bring his X box in a suitcase lol

No offense to your sponsor, but I am kind of deceived that you do not travel carry on only, that you use a suitcase instead of a backpack and that you put your passport in your suitcase. That being said, I hope you will have an amazing trip!
How would I travel with carry on only for 6+ months? I do use a suitcase for travel for the past 2 years because a backpack is way too heavy with how much stuff I bring. I put lock my passport in the carryon as long as I have it with me or leave it in there while I’m out exploring. I’m not sure what my sponsor would have to do with anything either?

What kind of earplugs do you have? None of those cheap drugstore ones stay in my ears - they are all too big.
I get mine off Amazon, sadly can’t remember the brand but might be able to find them off the look alone and also had very high reviews.
I don't feel comfortable placing my passport in a carry-on . I like a neck wallet for that , with my cards and cash in it too
