I'm in love with these older Canon G cams. I've got a G1, G3, S90 (basically a mini G11), and a G1X. Such great photo quality and tons of character, and they stand out aesthetically in a time where everyone is going crazy for retro-looking cameras. Great overview, duder.
There's something magical about how the G1 captures lighting...it has this sort of bloom/burst effect that takes me right back to what the early 00's *looked* like. Great review, Paulie.
Is was a very fun video to watch, really. Your editing skills are decent. As for the camera - there is something special about the old stuff. It's like them developing a soul, if they are old enough :D
Hard agree! They come with challenges but they definitely add their own flavour, with the way the sensor captures things and also with the way you have to change your workflow to suit the camera rather than the other way around 👏👏
This channel needs to be recognize. The content is informative for those who like cameras and the the video itself is a masterpiece 👌. Also, I like that you inserted the photos that you took on that camera. Looking forward for a various content in your channel. 😊👋
Ah thank you so much!! Sorry for the late reply, I've been knee deep in another project at the moment but I'll be back on making new videos very soon! 😊😊
I’ve seen a couple of your videos already and aside from your very informative video and detail description of the cameras your reviewing i have to say your voice is really soothing and i seem to pay attention to everything your saying. Anyway i have been planning to buy this camera since last year so yeah been hunting down reviews ever since
Big recommend! Although I picked up the g3 & 5 for around the same price so could be worth getting one of those instead! I've not tested them yet so can't let ya know rn I'm afraid haha 💕
Love its classic boxy design. The "space grey" color of the G1 sets it apart from the rest of the Powershot G-cameras, making it feel special, more pro. Cool extensive review!
I love this old beauty. I have a G1, G2, G6, and G12, and I think the G1 might be my favorite of the bunch. I actually dig the aesthetics of the G1 over the others up u til the G9. Great video!
G1 has the weirdest sensor of them bunch. Instead of being an RGB Bayer sensor, it's a CYGM one. The detail and sharpness out of it isn't going to match Bayer sensor like in the G2 but it's bound to have interesting properties of its own. Would love to see a comparison. I use the G2 btw.
So... i have an S95 and i bought a G3 a few days ago. The G3 is no joke its just slow . I have a gr3x and an X100 and the G3 held up pretty well until you peep. Also the ISO on the old canons is 1 stop off. So iso 200 is really 320-400
The moment I remembered the most of the G1 was back in 2000 to see a photographer (was it Fred Miranda?) posted his photos taken with the G1 at DPReview to show how good digital could be at the time. Because of that, many viewers bought one and later upgrade it to the Canon D30 DSLR (including myself and I still have both cameras). 🙂
I found your video while searching for people using the canon eos m without magic lantern and I’m glad I did find you because the vibes here are IMMACULATE. I subscribed 😊
I actually have something really similar! I forgot what the model is, but it used a really pain in the ass battery to find, and it burns right through it. I've spent so much money on that thing. I also recommend the Fujifilm E550, such a wonderful camera.
Ah that's the worst when that happens!! I'd defo keep an eye out for a similar camera with a wider used battery!! And Ooh I'll add it on to the list of ones to look for 👍👍👍
I think the mode's are to be approached more as a tool for getting the exposure youre after as they shouldn't affect the things that make a picture look like film (colour, mist, contrast & sharpness) I think if you edit what you've already taken with it with some film inspired lightroom presets, you'll be there already! 👏✨
love your videos!!! Could you say more about the settings you use for the different digicams? (music a little bit too loud for me, though... not sure you need it while you speak, let us enjoy your cute British accent😉...)
Found a G2 in a thrift shop for $7. Passed on it because it had no battery. Found a G1 earlier in the year in the same shop for the same price but passed on that as well Another with no battery. Starting to regret not picking up either camera now.
Everything usually comes in three's so hopefully you'll stumble on to another! 🤞 I've missed out on so many steals over the years it hurts to think about 😂
You just gotta get a little usb 'CF card reader' for a couple bucks online and then plug it in to the computer! From there you can drag the files into a folder/photo app/editing software! 😊💕
@@paulie_shoots Surprisingly, through Ebay. A local seller had it in working condition for about 60£ (Conversion, not that cheap anyways), but it was totally worth it, slow and all, it's quite a surprising "little" camera!
you gotta check out CHDK (Canon Hack Dev Kit). it unlocks full manual control and raw dng support too. I have a PowerShot A2200 and CHDK made it so much better
That depends on what you want! The Ixus is a great little second camera for when you don't want to take out a big set up, but the G1 has manual shooting mode which provides a lot more control! If you want to learn to use manual settings and understand how all of the options relate to each other, the G1 is a good place to start but if you just want to take pictures easily and get a good result every time, the Ixus is what you want 😊
Also for a total beginner I think the g1's limitations could prove a bit too difficult! If you're not familiar with shooting manual at all I'd save and start with a more modern dslr because you'll have a bigger range of shutter speeds, ISO's & megapixels to help you get a correct exposure in more situations! I've been shooting for 10 years and I still struggled a bit with the G1 so although it's excellent value for money, it's probably not the best camera for someone with zero experience shooting manual! Hope that helps 💕
@@paulie_shootsdo you use a separate light meter for manual mode. I discovered it doesn't have a light meter indicator. Maybe I've just not found it yet 😁

Hi, can i ask is the G3's technology considerably better than G1? Does it still have some problems that the video discussed? Thank you

The sample videos from this camera almost have a Siper8/Standard8 feel to them.
I have a power shot G1 as well, but my display screen is always upside down, any ideas how to fix that😢?
Hi, are these photos edited or sooc? If edited, can you tell me what settings u used and how you edited these? Thank you

Good review... one thing to note though. The body is actually at least 50% metal, certainly the whole frontal area is, and the flip out screen.
Would you say this this G1 got you feeln so fly like a G6?
I feel like the journey has begun, maybe when I review the G6 something special might happen!
Are you shooting raw or jpg? It would also be great if you uploaded in 4K so we can get a better look at the sample photos.
