I'm also CAUTIOUSLY optimistic because as empowering as this movement is currently, it has great impact to backfire in the future. Also, the discussion shouldn't just be about sexual harassment... it should be about ALL harassment in the workplace. I haven't seen sexual harassment, but I've seen plenty of emotional & verbal abuse by both men and women in the workplace.
I have been in a serious sexual harassment and awful work situation and when I put a complaint in, nothing happened to the person who was a manager. I was looked over for higher positions and was forced into a different work place. Meanwhile, 3 other women have made same complaints and he is still there. There are no real changes happening to women in the workplace although there are “no tolerance policy” in place.
I'm happy to hear these true victims finally have the courage to report situations like this. It's one thing to be victimized, truly, from out of the blue. Continued silence does nothing but allow the aggressor to continue and grow more powerful. Reporting these things in a timely manner helps prevent future victims. Be smart, have your witnesses and evidence so it's not just a he said/she said. And some women can be just as sexually harassing, aggressive and disgusting as some men. Men shouldn't have to put up with it, either.
