I know this video is old and blah blah... new to me though! I have a 2017 Durango GT and flushing the coolant after a oil filter housing crack isn't fun. Double as no fun with no radiator cap.. or I'm just that blind. Thanks for the idea Pen-Pusher of using that water hose nozzle though! It is pefect! Even the original hose clamp fits right on it. And for all those that wanted to know, HomeDepot sells those nozzles for like $10 in the lawn and garden section where the other water hose nozzles are. Who knew a water hose nozzle would end up living in my toolbox.
I just did a very thorough flush of my 1999 Mazda B3000. I used the Prestone cleaner, and to my surprise, it actually worked. I thought it was just a gimmick. I monitored portions of the coolant in those large clear plastic soft drink "glasses" from my local convenience store. I obviously drink too much of that stuff. Before I put the Prestone cleaner in, the coolant was getting cleaner and cleaner with each flush just using water. I then put the cleaner in, and drove around. The coolant had gotten dirtier. The Prestone cleaner actually worked. Who could have thought?
After the flush, i thought you would have poured the new coolant mixture in the top hose to flush out the plain water remaining in the engine water jacket until the new coolant can be seen coming out of the bottom radiator hose. I think the 50/50 mixture would be slightly out if this not done. Same for the heater core/matrix to remove all trace of sitting plain water so as to get close to the 50/50 ratio as much as possible.
To remove tap water from the engine block, use a small blower and insert it in the upper radiator hose going to engine block to drain all the water in it. I just did it to my 2004 corolla and it feels cooler and more efficient to drive.
Very good and clear explanation to do the flush without buying a plastic adapter kit. Probably saved $10. I think I’ll collect the flush water in a plastic bucket to see if much particulate is collected.
Bro.. we never toutch that little plastic cap.. in older cars.. thats craky.. it cracks! then its a new radiator.. that little piece its subgectec to lots of heat and cold.. water.. dust.. everything.. many people gonna fail.. :)
In older cars we don't have those lol.. so don't be a dick to the guy who made the video ... Either move around or enjoy it like I did cause I'm fixing to flush my 68 El Camino ..
Lol calm down Patty. My stock IS300 radiator had a plastic petcock the same exact style as in the video but once I installed an all aluminum one it came with a 14mm bolt. So just so u know each car is different but the one in this video is most commonly found on almost all vehicles.
Hi Dylan, it does cycle through the heater core. Just make sure your heat is turned on inside the vehicle. And, you are welcome to use distilled water to flush a 20 year old vehicle if you want to!
If you are driving a race car you shouldn't do it. My van is 20 years old and I don't mind flushing with tap water. I drain it all and then refill with deionized water and coolant. :)
Oh stop it. The garden hose water is no where near as dirty as some people's under maintained cooling systems. Plus like he said, he flushes with the garden hose then fill with deionized (or you can use distilled).
Oh nooo you're NOT supposed to use TAP WATER GARDEN HOSE!! Please use DISTILLED WATER 1 or 2 gallons. #1 Flush all old engine coolant fluid out from the drain. #2 Pour in DISTILLED WATER about 1 or 2 gallons then turn on engine idle running for 5-10 minutes when the boiling maximum 100-120 degrees. #3 Flush all out of DISTILLED WATER from the drain #4 Pour in new ENGINE COOLANT in 1 gallon or 2 gallons then turn on engine idle running for 15-20 minutes and turn on heater thermostat "HOT" to be sure engine coolant getting hot at temperature 185-200 degrees. Good luck with that TAP WATER will ruin your engine!!
@@Pen_Pusher Your van is 23 years old since 2000?? Is it Toyota Sienna minivan as right now how many mileages are you currently used to drive? Mine is Toyota Sienna LE 2011 as now been 12 years old and the mileages 304890.
Tap water for flush should be fine. You need a good flow of water going through your engine to flush away the crud and corrosion. Better if you remove the thermostat too for the flush.

Good job! I like your methodology! :)
Great video mate. One of the easier to follow tutorials
No worries. Hope your Sienna gives you many years of good service!

Not necessary. It makes a difference in theory, but in practice it is a miniscule amount. :)
Yes if you do it before it gets cold it will eventually run the left over water out
Mix your coolant a little stout at first and it will be okay
@@jamesloe9374Yea but you don’t want it to flash rust. This prevents that. It also rinses out the hard water.

Thanks Robert. That is a great suggestion!

Glad you enjoyed it! :)
So the only thing you have to do is take off the radiator hoses to flush out the radiator?
Yes, if you do that you do not even need to open radiator petcock at bottom...
@@evilgrows Yes. What he said...
When it's tight, use a rag over it instead of pliers. Less chance of breaking shit.
Good suggestion, thanks!

Yep I heard it's better to drain using the lower coolant hose
If you break the stupid plastic.. You get new radiator. 180€ maybe.. Maybe more.
I mean they do have sprays to condition plastic but still as a safety precautions I'd still drain using the lower hose
What type of fitting can I get for the end of the hose ? So it will fit the multiple holes
Hi Josh, as you can see at 3:50 you can just use a rag wrapped around the hose - then you don't need special fittings.
Can I use a garden hose to drain the reservoir coolant
Yes, you can undo the reservoir connection to the radiator and then flush it with the hose.
Well done
Thanks Sam. Hope you found it helpful!
What if no water come out from the engine when you flush out? What may be the problem?
There will be a blockage somewhere. Your engine will also be overheating, because it is not cooled properly. :(
Thermostat is blocking flow perhaps.
Where do i get deionized water?
You can use distilled water, available at most grocery stores
You can also used distilled water - just as good. Should be available at Walmart or auto parts store.
Not a proper flush! Your heater core is not flushed!
Here is the heater core flush: ua-cam.com/video/FpCF1jTA0F8/v-deo.html
What the hell? There ain't no plastic valve you turn. It's mostly a small bolt you remove at the bottom. I wish it was that easy to drain
What model do you have Patrick?

All wrong this does nothing it's not cycling thru the whole cooling system like the heater core for example and you're supposed to use distilled water

Don’t matter what water your flushing it with😂
So even with atf in your coolant system use that preston flush?
3:39 are you flushing engine with Engine turned off?
Definitely. Never try doing this with a running engine!
Don't be using a garden hose to flush out your coolant.
READ YOUR OWNERS MANUAL.
DISTILLED. WATER.
DISTILLED WATER ONLY
DO NOT USE GARDEN HOSE WATER

I think after flushing it with tap water you can just flush it with distilled water afterwards.
You probably pay people to work on your vehicles.
