My Grandfather was there in Cellular Jail in Andaman for 7 years. He was arrested by British for trying to shoot a British officer. I feel proud for my Grandfather.

Sir with due respect, It is wrong to call it mercy petition. It is just a petition which every political prisoner should write to Britishers in order to get out of Jail. He never mentions in his petitions that he felt sorry for what he did. He was a lawyer and he knew how he can come out of jail. He can't do anything from Jail.
I read his biography few months ago and can definitely say he was just amazing.

Savarkarji ne kabhi bhi mercy petition nahi likhi thi bhaai . British government released him from cellular jail because of public pressure . People were organising themselves to make Savarkar free . People sent paper with signs of thousands of people and many reputed statesmen . This created a big pressure on British government to release Savarkarji . Then Savarkarji signed an agreement with some terms & conditions but he never apologized for his nationalism .
