I am a native born Californian, and I live in San Francisco. With that said, this part of California was occupied by Russia for about 30 years. Sonoma wine country was called Fort Ross. Russia couldn't handle the wild west, so they hopped in their ship and sailed away. They were losing the Crimean War against the British. Their Alaskan fur trading was going down the drain, and they were having a hard time colonizing the natives. The natives kept burning down their interests. The West was just too much for them to handle. Here in San Francisco, we have a cemetery where Russian sailors were buried and American kids used to play on their graves. 😂😂😂 Russia couldn't sell California to the US because it wasn't theirs to sell. 😂 They sold Alaska on the cheap because they didn't want it to fall into British hands.😂 if the Russians want Alaska back, they will have to fight 330 million armed Americans. Just like Clint Eastwood said, get off my lawn...😂

If we are playing that game can Russia please repay all of he 11.3 billion in land lend that the US gave them during WW2 . Up until the early 1970s they had repaid only 722 million, the rest was written off. How much they seem to conveniently forget or were just never told.
Land lend was in exchange for 30 millions Russians that were killed to liberate Europe from Hitler. That was even a better deal for America than Alaska.
Russia prevented Spain and France interference in American affairs during the independence war and civil war. Now, who has to repay for the USA were supported by Russia at the time of their birth into this world?

As for the Russian impact in the US and Alaska, the Russians actually annihilated the animals and wildlife in Alaska, they hunted them into extinction, and killed off local Aleut people through disease and war because they couldn't keep up with the Russian demands for pelts. Altruistic they most certainly are not.

Alaska here, even with all the propaganda there are some very astute comments. We have plenty of govt neglect and propaganda of our own. Can't believe that guy missed Jack London, he was popular with many socialists . It's not uncommon to encounter Russian nationals here, there are two areas where they hang out in sizeable settlements. I know several guys that have married Russian women, same as there winter is tough on women.We don't have running water but do have an electrically heated toilet seat! Russian Army steals used toilets from Ukraine, that shows you the level of their advancement.They were kicked out of our area three times after enslaving the Natives to get furs. Jack London wrote a story on that also.
These people would be shocked if they found out that probably ⅓ of the American population likely can’t find Russia on a map-and that even fewer think about Russia on weekly basis. Russia just isn’t a particularly important topic here.

I'm not American (I'm British), but I know a lot of Americans, so can attest to this. One of Russia's greatest weaknesses as a country is that the Russian people are encouraged to believe Russia is stronger and more important than it actually is. If you could only accept that you're not a superpower any more, you might make better choices as a nation.
This overconfidence is why you've accepted the war in Ukraine because you expect victory, even though by now it should be obvious it's an unwinnable conflict for you. Still, your men are sent to certain death because your leader can't afford to be seen as weak by withdrawing - which is what any sensible leader would have done by now.

Actually it's the Chinese who landed in California a long time ago because of archaeological finds discovered. But perhaps other folk like Polynesians might also have landed.

Then, in 1587, some Philipinos arrived in California, which was later annexed to Mexico. The Russians only arrived in California 2 centuries later...and didn't stay long.

It's always the difference of people vs their government policies. Most people in the world are exactly the same in their values and willingness to treat each other the way we would treat friends. Politicians and governments start wars not the people who end up having to fight and die in them.
For awhile in Alaska you could fly to a 250,000 settlement, Madrigan and there was a lot of back and forth, m people are people and can usually get along without the help of religion. or govt.The city was very concentrated to make it simpler to heat and supply services, but I remember they were out of coal for heat and I think they have problems with the hot water heating system this winter.

Shouldn’t the USA more justly be returned to the indigenous population who fought hard for it? Same here in Australia. No ones handing it back but we should at least acknowledge the injustice of it.
