  • Here is the KDK industrial ceiling fan that used to be in my bedroom at the old apartment from 2006 up until the end of 2012 when it was replaced by the white Hampton Bay Glendale. This replaced my first bedroom fan up here in the states being a Hunter Baseball fan. After a few years of that being up I decided to put a KDK in my bedroom up in the states so my uncle bought it for me and brought it to the states when he came to visit for my 10th birthday. Originally the controller it came with got lost so it was run off the light dimmer that was in the room previously. It rarely got used due to the noise and the fear of it falling due to the old apartment being in bad shape. Over time it did get used a bit more but nothing severe thus keeping it from getting ruined from the dimmer switch. Around 2011-2012 it was moved over to my newer room at the apartment after my mom and I switched bedrooms and it remained there until the Glendale took its place as my bedroom fan. I never disliked having it as a bedroom fan it was more so that I didn’t feel that the ceiling at the old apartment was in good enough condition to support the fan and figured something more lightweight would be better. Over the years it has been shown on my channel, from way back to the earliest videos of the fans in my house to several old fan photos slideshows back when it was in my old room with the baseball fan home plate above it, to being shown fully assembled on my bed for those who never seen a KDK without a light at the time, it has been a fan I’ve wanted to show running in action ever since the first day I started the channel. Unfortunately one of the wires that went to the capacitor to the lead came undone so I had to get it soldered back together it running again. Finally after 8 years of wanting to test it for the channel on video it has finally happened. This is the closest one can get to finding an older KDK from the 2000s era in white being near mint unless they find another that is in a well inclosed location due to them having the tendency to yellow due to the heat and exposure to dirt/moisture in the air of the Dominican Republic. Since down there windows are left open nearly all the time except for when it rains, these tend to rust and get yellowed over time due to the heat. Though there are a few rare occasions that you’ll find one that’s near mint where it hasn’t faded finish wise, with this one being in a more enclosed space all year round due to never leaving the windows open all the time preserved this fan from yellowing and rusting so much. This fan runs very well for being unused for the past 8 years. The spin down isn’t that long due to this fan not being used for awhile plus due to it never being heavily used back when it was installed. Performance is solid as to be expected with these fans. With this one being from the mid 2000s (got it in 2006 to be exact) the build on it is much better than the quality of the later versions from 2009 and onwards. The blades are made of heavier steel compared to the newer ones and the motor is larger and the plastic parts are more durable and less flimsy than the newer models. The classic look is something that many within the community have come to love about these fans and this one I feel is the one that really helped gain the recognition of the KDK industrials as a whole within the community as there weren’t nearly any displayed within the community beforehand aside from the three at my grandparents house. I plan to test it with the light kit at some point but for now I just wanted to get it up for testing as I plan to test the other KDKs I have little by little but wanted this one to be the first one to be tested. Although these have been discontinued for nearly 10 years now, they are still super common in the Dominican Republic thus showing how popular these were among households and businesses as a whole. There are other versions that are common as well, the brown and brass versions as well as the newer models, but none have come close to being as common as this one is in terms of being a staple of the fan that is sought after by many within the Dominican community. While these are available in other third world countries, many have been seen to show up within the Latin American countries and have been a huge part of my childhood and for many others who are from third world countries as well. This is a fan I’m glad to have gotten when I was a kid since my uncle who got me this fan has since passed away making it more sentimental to me, and was the person who really played a role in me having so many memories with these fans as I grew up. Always has been a favorite fan of mine and is definitely my favorite industrial due to the countless memories I have with them. I could list all the locations I’ve seen these at but I feel the videos I’ve doe over the years does that for me. Enjoy!
