Korean ancestors curved the roof to make the rain fall faster because of the concentrated rain in summer, and lifted the edge of the roof so that the pillars in the rain could dry up quickly in the sunlight But your aunt's story is more interesting😁
Jeonju looks incredible! It’s nice to see areas where culture is preserved for us to experience! Would love to visit places like this and experience that meal-probably even more so that the busier more modern cities! Thanks for sharing this experience 🇰🇷
In Asian architecture, tips of roofs are built going upward in order to dry wooden column using sunshine. The angle of the curve varies according to latitude and longitude since sunlight hits differently according to latitude/longitude. The angles go steeper in South East Asia because sun hits from right above your head in SE Asia.
In jeonju I had a special experience with staying in a hanok as well🥰 Not soo comfortable (for my taste) but I will always remember it. It was winter and so cozy and comfortable in this little hanok🤭
JeonJu Hanok were first designed and built in the 14th century during the Joseon Dynasty. Sleeping on floor.. that room is not just floor, its calls ONDOL-- underfloor heating system that is very unique to Korea so in winter whole room is warm and cozy, not like when you use american stove heater or electric heater that only heating a small area of the room.

when you get back to seoul and you are craving some bibimbap you can try Mongmyeok Sanbang. It is close to namsan tower and michelin rated. $10 for a michelin star bibimbap.
ooh, as soon as you said it was close to Namsan Tower, we knew what you meant! We went there on our second day in Seoul and it was so nice! Had no clue it was a Michelin star restaurant. we loved it!

Actually silkworm goes well with makgeolli. They sell it in grocery stores in a can. I don't know the history of it but when we were little it was replacement of protein, so scarce of food after korean war at that time.
@@sami-qm8od it's admirable how Koreans have for so long made amazing flavors with whatever ingredients were available.. I recently tried silkworm soup in Seoul, and it was quite nice!
There's an interesting rule in every Makgeoli han-sang (means a full table with makgeoli) pubs. We can get whole new types of dishes whenever you order a new kettle!! Usually there are 3 or 4 stages, and quite fancy side dishes at latter stages. Only tipplers can get the best! 😆
AWESOME! Thank you for ur video. And please try to find another traditional villages in Andong if visiting again. October is most beautiful season. I hope you had a great time and hapiness during trip.
I have lived in Canada over 20 years but was born in Chonju. I feel very good to hear some foreigners are enjoying the views of Chonju. Chonju has the long history and lots of the cultural assets. Thanks for the post!
Thank you so much for your brilliant videos of South Korea, I have only just discovered them. To travel with you, it is quite bittersweet in a lovely way. My husband and I desperately wanted to visit S.K but sadly it wasnt to be, he passed away three years ago so it is rather lovely being able to take part in your travelling experience of SK and of course Jeju Island. Treasure everyday and safe travels.
Hi Irene-thank you for your sweet message. So sorry about the loss of your husband. We are so happy you are able to travel along with us, we hope you’ll be able to visit Korea someday and carry memories of your husband with you.
Hi, planning to have 2 days in Jeonju, do you recommend your traditional hanok where you spent your night? What is the name? I am travelling alone. Thanks!
Never have been to Korea before but I have had meokgeolli and it is very nice and creamy, and mild in booze content yet still has that "kick" but there are more than one flavor. I've had the banana and the regulat in plastic beige bottle, Im glad we can get this in Canada. I'll still likely come to Korea and drink it and visit BTS cafe. One of my higher-on-the list things to do/ Probably sooner than later 💯
What a pretty little town. So unique. Love you just try all the food/drink. When Lisa asked Josh "do you know what it is" he just says "not really" (but I'll eat it anyway as it's delicious 🤣🤣)
Koreans don't mess around when it comes to speed. Many of Korea's traditional food are original fast food where you can eat healthy balanced meal and be done eating quicker than McDonalds. Too bad it was middle of summer that you didn't get to experience it. If it was cooler months, the floor heats up using a method called ondol (heated rock or floor). Here in states, I really wish my home was equipped with Ondol (or radiated floor heating) since I don't wear shoes in the house and it's much cost effective compared to air heating system. Apparently expensive to install it to existing construction per American contractors but I'm finding that there are ways to install it to existing structures that is common in Korea that American contractors don't know about.
Hello, Lisa and Josh. I'm a writer of a UA-cam channel that reports positive responses from overseas related to Korea. It's called "위대한 언니" May I ask your permission to use this video as a reference? If you allow it we will use 5~6mins of your video, and will introduce your channel name, and put the direct link on a fixed reply. I'm looking forward to your positive response. Thanks. :)

Was 24 hours too short to spend in Jeonju? Do you wish you had more time there? My mom had mentioned that she would like to go, purely for the food. It's not a part of Korea that she has ever been to, and after watching this vlog, looks like worthy stop on our trip.
hi there! we do wish we had spent a couple of days in Jeonju! we felt like there was more to explore and enjoy (and eat!) but unfortunately the weekend we were there, the hotels were all booked up. hope you will get to go :)

Wintertime in a hanok sounds so cozy, especially with the flooring system. :) we'd love to come back then
If you liked Jeonju, I highly recommend Kyungju as it used to be an ancient dynasty Shilla that was even before Joseon
I really want to visit Kyungju! I keep hearing that the history (and food!) is way worth the trip.
