  • A nesting peahen is shown, along with her nest of eggs which she had on the roof of the restroom building, adjacent to the Celebration Garden at the L.A. Arboretum. The peachick hatching is then shown. The first 3 chicks hatched ahead of the 4th chick. The 4th chick hatched late at night or early the next morning and was therefore depicted as weak and show to move, compared to the other 3 chicks. All 4 chicks flew successfully down from the roof the morning after hatching, and by late afternoon the 4th chick was doing much better. All 4 chicks were doing great the next morning! Filmed in June, 2022.

    I am getting close to getting peafowl so I want to ask what’s the difference of owning Indian blues and green javas and which is easier to take care of.

    • @peacocklover27
      @peacocklover27  Рік тому

      I don't have any experience with the green javas, but I've heard that the india blues are more easygoing and have a better disposition. I've only known india blues for 13 years and I've been very happy with them.

    It’s breaking my heart 3/4 of the peachicks in my neighborhood have been gobbled up by coyotes or something. I personally witnessed a kestrel just missing taking one off a roof after it had gotten spooked up there. My favorite peahen lost all four of hers.😪

    • @peacocklover27
      @peacocklover27  Рік тому

      I'm so sorry to hear that.

      At the Arboretum (where I film my videos) we have the same problem. Hawks and coyotes. One peahen lost 7 out of 8 chicks, one lost 4 out of 8 chicks, one lost all 5 chicks, one lost 2 chicks, etc. I know how you feel.

    How many eggs does the female lay?

    • @peacocklover27
      @peacocklover27  Рік тому

      This peahen in this video laid 4 eggs. A clutch of 4-6 eggs is normal, but I've seen peahens lay as many as 10 eggs.

    WELCOME 1st week of July 🌈 I heard that peacocks starting to lose their huge tail feathers, but at the beginning of August, that's the time when peacocks will begin to recover their feathers once more 🙏
