Sounds incredible!!! I love how you and other artists (not enough yet) are reverting to this stripped down sound, and how vinyl is making a serous comeback. Why? Because it sounds better. Sounds honest. No noodling of wheels and knobs, buttons, and slides. Pure music. Thank you, Jackie Greene.
This sounds amazing. Amazing performance and amazing job capturing it. Unbelievable when I listen on headphone monitors. The piano, panning, vocal centering, EQ of the players, oh my. thank you!
Absolutely perfect cover of one of your earliest songs. The sound and recording are wonderful beyond compare. Keep doing what your doing Jackie. Love it!
Excellent ! I love the recording and i love the video but can't feel good doing both at the same time. The music scene is fixed and i can locate people easily on my stereo but the camera keep moving. I feel a disconnect between the video and the music and often it gets confusing. But great performance 👍🏾
The recordings and performances are beautiful John! Thank you. I was wondering if Jackie with his guitar and vocal is singing directly at the front of the Stereo mic or his he off axis ... a little more off axis. I know with a mono ribbon off axis would lose some of the body of the vocal/guitar. Am I correct in assuming in the stereo set up, you don't lose that fullness where the two mic elements meet in XY on the ribbon mic. Thanks again John
I used to engineer and produce years ago and I am blown away by this one-mic recording! After years away from music, I want to purchase some equipment to play as a hobby. The mic and preamp used are about $2,000 each if I am not mistaken. Would you, John Cuniberti, have any recommendations for a mic and a preamp closer to $200 each for doing one-mic recordings? Thanks!
Maybe it's obvious and a situation of levels, but how do you keep the reverb trails on just the vocal, but you don't hear the reverb on the piano lead, or snare?
I do two things. During the mastering of the audio is when I apply the reverb. The send to the reverb (UAD 140 plate) is put through an MS plug-in so only the center information is sent to reverb. I also gently ride the send down when there is no singing.
Thanks for getting back to me. That's a really smart solution! It's a great recording and a wonderful balance of instruments and vocals, it let's the music shine.
its not so much the mic.. its the placement of the instruments and everyone balancing themselves like a live jazz group... monitoring themselves and listening... Ive recorded bluegrass groups and you have to place certain instruments that are higher in frequency farther away cause they cut thru more... others have to play softly etc... then the mic is just listening to the room and picking up that balance... takes time to set it up and practice first to get it right.
All these recordings are superlative… absolutely fantastic. But the Kurzweil triple strike piano patch in this song is killing the vibe for me, so hard! The worst sounding keyboard piano ever… an old upright would have been so much more preferable.
Amazing!! A true visionary with talent that resonates in my soul. Thank you 🙏🏻 for sharing with us. ✌️💚 N Jackie G.

Sorry for that but the alternative is: one fixed camera or have the singers and instruments swirl around as it follows the camera.
@@onemic-theminimalist It is great nonetheless

That’s correct. There is still some amount of proximity effect you can take advantage of to gain a fuller sound.
Thank you John! I really appreciate it. Jackie and band are wonderful and you captured them just beautifully! Tru;ly magical.

If only I had a room like that to record the whole band with one mid side stereo microphone
Hi, great sound! can i ask what pre amp you are using with the R88?
Millennia HV3c Thank You for your interest - More OneMic videos are coming in May from Sun Studio and Muscle Shoals
So the keyboard goes through and amp of which the sound is captured by the microphone?
Yes
What mic/preamp/recording platform is used?

And I forgot to mention beautifully shot. I do video, 5Dmk3 and GH5, just can't get the low light you're getting, great work.
We shoot in LOG2 on a Sony a7RII so that gives us the dynamic range but we also spend a lot of time adjusting the lighting.
Brilliant! I love it!

@@onemic-theminimalist Indeed.
if only his beard was grey...the guitar a Martin and the electric a 56 Strat with humbuckers. 😉
