    I love those silicone sealers. They also have one that covers the top and you put the plastic lid over it. They work great for keeping smoothies fresh. Just fill the jar right to the top sit the sealer on top. It seals all the air out and your smoothies will last in the fridge for a couple of days without loosing any quality.

    Just thinking of that cinamon apple smoothy is making me salivate. I've had some apples from a neighbour too, mostly "cookers", and will use them for that. Should really improve them for raw consumption. For keeping the counter clean with several jars you can use those long shallow plastic drawer organisers. They can take several jars without taking up too much more counter space.

    You make a ton of different stuff. I enjoy learning from you. I would be interested for you to do a UA-cam on a typical day, if you haven’t already, of what you eat & drink during the day, including meals & snacks. Looking for how you incorporate all these wonderful things into your daily life.

    • @RainCountryHomestead

      It can keep for a very long time but it tastes best within the first few days, it will grow progressively more alcoholic the longer it sits so it may just depend on the person

      This is true but not always wise. Too easy the rubber gasket can slip and get chewed up destroying both the gasket and the smoothie. I know this from experience

    NOTE: The liquid I am adding is the FERMENTATION STARTER and I have a video on how you can make your own (as mentioned in the video) in the description box. Please click on SHOW MORE or that little grey triangle if you are on a smart device to open the description box to find the many video and other links I put there. Both are located below the video screen.
    ALSO - it should be stored in the fridge once it is fully bubbly and is best consumed within a week, however, since it is fermented, it will last a long time in cold storage but will increase in alcohol content

    At what point of the day would you drink your apple smoothies & how often would you drink them during the week. Do they store well for a few days?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  4 роки тому

      I usually drink mine around noonish and have 4-8 ounces a day. They will keep for a very long time in the fridge since they are fermented but the alcohol content starts to increase after a few days even in the fridge so I try to finish any fermented juice or smoothie off within 3-4 days. I usually only make a quart at a time because of this

    Hi Heidi......smoothie ideas look great, I just have a question: with the drinks being fermented do you have to be careful not to drink too much at a time? Like with fermented sauerkraut, you shouldn’t eat more than 2 tablespoons at a time. Just wondering??? Thank you, love your channel!

    Hi Heidi. I made fermented pear for smoothie. I did it like you did but without starter. Then I left it for 4 days by stirring daily but smell is not pleasant. It smells little bit rotten but the color is great .I put it in the fridge. I don't know if it's okay to drink. Thank you.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  4 роки тому

      That is why I always use a starter, you can never be certain if something is going to ferment properly without it. As I said in the video, making your own starter is super easy and can be made from whatever fresh or dried fruit or herb you have. Please check out the video on how to do it that I linked to in the description box

    Hi,I've been trying to make vinegar but after 6weeks all I have is very strong wine,would adding Apple cider vinegar help?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  4 роки тому +2

      It might but there are two other things that could be preventing it from turning to vinegar:
      1) lack of exposure to oxygen due to a tight fitting lid or using an air lock. If this is the case, remove the lid and replace with a cloth or coffee filter and use a rubber band to hold in place.
      2) Too much sugar in the ferment will cause the process to take much longer or possibly come to a stop and never finish.

    Apple seeds contains arsenic

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  3 роки тому +2

      They are totally safe to eat and even healthy in small quantities. They do not actually contain arsenic, they contain a compound that can turn to cyanide in the gut but you would have to chew up a very large quantity for them to be at all harmful and who on earth does that? Please see this video: ua-cam.com/video/ogpO2oJbgK0/v-deo.html
