  • A motorcycle tour to Scandinavia (Sweden and Norway) with a Ural Sidecar Motorcycle. Part one covers getting there from Germany, crossing the Baltic Sea from Travemünde (Germany) to Trelleborg (Sweden), and heading North to Norway.
Unfortunately a few technical problems accured. Sorry for that. I hope to have solved the problem when part 2 is going to be uploaded.

I partnered with a Ural Gear-Up Model. In a village named Cougar.
Located immediately SW of a volcano that had exploded in 1980.
We met at a general store and realized we could help each other.
My 1987 brown Dodge Dakota truck could haul or tow her ride if
needed and she would appreciate my weight in the sidecar. We
both wanted to see a close view of what happened 15 years ago.
I learned the Ural would do paved and unpaved roads best if slow.
My side lifted several times when steering turned sharply away
from me. Scary and a hard bump on landing. There was a seat
behind the operator but Ms. Stang secured her purse there. She
had a Colt 1873 SA Army revolver shoulder-holstered. We agreed
she'd defend both of us. Stopped so I could show her a pit-entry
lava tube but she declined to explore caves with me. We got
to the western edge of where the eruption had thrown down that
mountainside. We both gasped at the power expended there.
Words fail me to explain the sight. Ms. Stang took photography
while I sketched using my Derwent graphic pencil kit. Drew my
companion also and she accepted my gift smiling. I had to
chop our way past a fallen tree and lever big stones aside so we
could ride on. I like ladies with a single bit Gransfors Bruks
on a hickory handle. Got to another viewpoint to see how
suddenly melted summit ice tore into lower elevation forest.
As we did so the volcano shuddered under our feet. Stones
were heard rolling. I admired how calm appeared she was
mounting her machine. Later, at my vehicle, she promised
to send me photography copies. But, that never happened.
I can only hope she returned to Idaho safely.

I've seen Ural video of their 3-wheel machines at the north rim
of the Grand Canyon National Park. I watched Ural do Modoc
National Forest, go under Interstate-5 to the Sacramento River
boat ramp parking, and ride inside the Red Zone upon Mount
St. Helens volcano. As it shook and vented steam.
Me? I'm presently licensed to ride 2, 3, and 4-wheel vehicles.

The Ural requires a lot of tooling and owner upkeep. The sidecar usually
a lot of extra parts, nuts, fittings, etc. It is made to be serviced by winter
gloved owners as it had been in WW2 by vodka-puking Soviet solders.

Well made video and I like the photography of it. It looks like Sweden and Norway are both very little in extension (. You don't mention costs, but I believe there may be many (insurance, dwelling, food and gas, etc). Was it expensive? Thank you.

    • @johnathansmith3819
      @johnathansmith3819 8 років тому

+FR - I really meant "small". From Brampton to Montreal we have in Canada, almost 600 km. one way. In comparison, that is very "little". That's what I meant.

    • @ulrikefell4727
      @ulrikefell4727  8 років тому

Costs really depend on the way you travel. Camping and cooking for yourself it is not too expensive. I think, gas was about 1.40 €/ltr. (of course, subject to change. It was around 2 €/ltr., when I visited Norway in 2013.

how much is the ural and sidecar combo in euros? I live in England have always riden enduros and twice cycled across Europe and to Greece., But now im retired and want to take my springer spaniel with me he doesn't like his bicycle doggie trailer so I was thinking of trying to attach a light side car to a Honda type 250 L dual sport bike. man this Ural looks amazing and nice and low for shorter people thanks for the great video.

I visited the Ural online sire and downloaded their 1987 Owner Manual.
Every part and service detail is mentioned. Including tools and extra
parts that may be ordered from Russia. Are told the break-in period
has new owners all over their purchase daily in inspections with a
checklist so nothing is ignored. You've probably had past lovers
with more of their parts left untouched.
