I would love to hear you talk more about how and when to start training your boxwoods into a hedge. When to prune, how often, how severe or light to prune, how you shape them into different forms, etc. great videos as always with tons of useful info!
I never really comment, but I had to say that the music while Laura was planting was so amazing and fitting for the work. The piano music really made me reflect on this labor of love that you both are undertaking and it’s just so beautiful. Thanks for sharing your time and life and story with everyone, it’s a blessing to watch you every upload!
The hedge already looks lovely. Measuring from the house is what I did when I dug a new bed on the side of my house 2 years ago. Planted hostas but they turned out to be to large a variety, so will be giving them away next spring and moving the Golden Tiara from the front yard to that spot. Have several varieties with brighter variegation I'm considering for my front yard. Love all the plants Laura and Aaron have been planting. Love it when I see a new Garden Answer video!!!
I will definitely be searching for these Sprinter Boxwoods. When I moved to our house 15 years ago, there were hedges of boxwoods in the front beds. After a hurricane came through last year, I let the trimming go and they grew so tall, got woody, like you said and I've been trying to cut them back.. Now I don't want them at all, but the smaller sprinter boxwood might be just the ticket. I would be able to see out of our windows with a low growing hedge. Your videos are so inspiring for my meager gardening efforts. Thanks!
Great info. I have some box woods that are 32 years old. They are shaped in spheres and make a great back drop for all seasons. I have Nandinas in front of them for “Winter interest”😻
Great info. I really enjoy it when you explain everything about the plant or area. Learned a lot about how to plant in a straight row and the tip about cutting a piece of wood to measure by is just brilliant. Y’all are the best.
So happy to see your video.it’s Windy and cool today..a great time this morning to watch your video. Late fall and you are still trying to beautify your gardens. I have given up on planting. You are a true gardener all year long.
Thanks for the great information. Based on your positive reviews of Sprinter Boxwood, planning to put them along our new deck as a green hedge which will be a nice backdrop for flowers.
I also have to say that I Love that you guys at your garden center can answer questions or help people with knowledge.... I feel where I live its just a job for them.. No one can help or answer a question as they really have no interest or know anything about plants or soil... Its just a paycheck for them!!! .. Or there is a language barrier issue...
I really like the way you intersperse a variety of fencing material with live plant fencing and then back to fencing material. It's so much more visually appealing than a solid fence or a solid hedge. Can you talk about how/where to determine how to segment off an area to make an outdoor "room"?
Your 'Sprinter' boxwoods are beautiful! One of my favorite areas of your garden is the Versailles garden with these same boxwoods, Russian sage, etc. The different colors, shapes and sizes are just perfect together! 💜
I just bought three box today! My first boxwood. I have a large planter built into my chicken coop and I have a native pine and will add three box that I plant to cut in three different size box shapes so I can use it in the winter as a Christmas display. Bulbs in the spring, white impatiens in the summer. I think....
I live in a condo and can't plant basically anything outdoors except containers or veggies (in containers) on my deck. I still watch almost every one of your videos because you have great information, deliver it professionally, and have quality video (props to Aaron). Maybe someday I'll have a house and I can utilize all the information I learn here on Garden Answer. Thanks for being awesome.
New to the channel. My compliments on your presentation. Quick, to the point, informative, not a lot of ums and uhs, and not overselling like a shamwow commercial. Great vid.
I am sol glad you made this video! Going over the variety that you are planting was so educational. I'm going to definitely plant these! Thank you for going over the 'pee' smell too! I love this video! Thank you!
Love what and how you do it. Sooo appreciate your attention to detail, How you measure and space things out. My husband and I are the. And the results are worth it!
Really love seeing how everything is coming together. And, yes, the hedge compliments the house beautifully. Can't wait to see the project behind the hedge.
I just ordered 9 of these in 1 gallon size from a nursery in Georgia "now sold out." I was having a hard time finding these in San Diego where I live. I was most interested in this variety because they seem to be ok with full shade which mine will get get in the winter months, but will also get full sun in the summer. I will do a review later for SoCal people who might be interested. Zone 10a here, lowest temp in past 5 yrs is 31 :)
I can't wait to see how they hold up to the winter weather. I removed some privet hedges this past spring and have been trying to decide what to plant in their place. I think I'll look into these. Thanks for sharing!
Love my mornings with your videos!! Also…. I think it’s so great of you to put time stamps in for people wanting to skip ahead…but I’m pretty certain there is nobody watching your videos who actually skips even a single second of watching and listening to you, myself included 😘. Thank you for another wonderful gardening session…. Just what I needed to lift my spirits on this snowy Saskatchewan day 😃. Can’t wait to see these fill in!!
Love the different boxwood plants you choose. I like the look of hedges, but I always chosen the wrong kind. This spring I'm definitely trying these. Thank you and God bless 🙏
By any chance, have the old owners come by for a visit? I’ve been dying to know? I’m sure they are sooooo proud of all the changes and updates you and Aaron have done… inquiring minds want to know 😊 ps: love love LOVE the new boxwood hedge!
I love Boxwood hedges, any day, anyplace lol. Your's look so nice there and will look fabulous as they grow. Thank you for sharing your information and time.
I totally agree. I love the fact that Laura is clear and to the point with information and Aaron making sure the videos are quality. It helps us to concentrate better on everything.
I love your boxwood hedge, can't wait to watch it as it grows, I just love all the things that you are doing in your yard, I get so excited to see your next project, it does give me some ideas for my own tiny yard, thank you and Aaron for all of your hard work, this is a great channel, I am so grateful I came across it, it has been such a joy!
Did Aaron have any videography experience prior to Garden Answer? I always feel like I'm watching a TV show. The filming and editing is top notch! Also that GA hoodie! 😍
Well, what do you expect from a massive garden, this lady is very well off!!!! Seems she does not have any worry in the world and frequently mentioning how big her garden is!!!!
I learned so much! from center... I did not know that...some boxwood smell like cat pee...🙀AND why The big boxwood hedge in my backyard from the previous owners look woody. Thanks Lauren!!🌳🌳🌳
Looks great! I tried to find sprinter boxwoods in my area and was unsuccessful. The garden centers around here had never heard of them. Side note, I'd like to know who on earth gives the thumbs down to your videos. What is there to thumb down?? They're great videos!
I just came back from the nursery with my first plants ever! They are Sprinter Boxwoods!!! So glad you made this video. I'm putting them in planters but it was still great to hear all about this particular plant!!! So glad I didn't accidentally buy the cat pee ones!!!! I think you are very pretty too. Great video, you got my sub :)
Now I want to plant a hedge of boxwoods! 😂🤣 Remember to film the project when you lay the landscape bricks, I’d love to see how you do that and the project behind the boxwoods!
Hedge looks great. I was also happy to get a peek at the items, like the weeping spruce, you planted a while back. Had been wondering how they were doing. Maybe an update on that area soon?
I bought 12 of these last fall and the first thing I noticed is they DID bronze up right away with cold temperatures. I was shocked because Laura said they don’t bronze much. I am zone 7a. Of course I will still enjoy my bushes.
Your videos are so fun and inspiring. The new boxwoods are beautiful. I would love to see a tour of your hydrangeas sometime. I'm in zone 5 too but get quite a lot of rain and humidity. I planted a lot of hydrangeas this year because I was inspired by your channel. My Quick Fire and Gatsby Star are coloring up so pretty this fall. I think Laura mentioned in one of the fall tour videos that she is going to be planting a hedge or row of hydrangeas. I hope you guys will film that when you put them in. I'm hoping to plant a hedge of hydrangeas myself but am not sure how far to space them. Best wishes for your beautiful home and family. Thank you for the effort you both put into your videos. They bring so much joy.
Thanks for all the information I just bought a two acres lake lot were building a small rustic French cottage style house. I'll be going back to your videos for further reference for my gardens thanks you know you stuff lovely so lovely
Have to say, I would have adjusted the placement of those plants slightly start a few inches away from that pipe. But hopefully that plant will succeed anyway, and overall you’re sure to have another nice hedge.
hello! Thank you for all your videos. I learn a lot from it. All your plants and trees and landscaping are gorgeous! I think it’s in this video where one of your tree broke off a big branch. I noticed right away that the root flare is all covered. I have heard that we are not supposed to cover those root flare cause the roots need to breathe and if you cover them, it will cause a lot of problems. 🙂
Looks great; excited to watch it grow with you. I just planted a hedge of the strongbox Inkberry holly so would love for you to plant the ones you shared with more info on them!!
I love when you plant boxwood that's my favorite shrub. I like more formal garden and I'm in 7 and the boxwood that work well for me is the wintergreen .
Awesome video Laura! Love the box wood Hedge and the info about them.. this gave me an instant idea for the space around my Mobil home.. I live in Texas zones 8a, 9a and I was thinking how I could get a beautiful little garden in front on the house, and those boxwoods would make a great hedge!
Hi Laura You have inspired me so much. Your garden is beautiful. While we are in different zones (Iam zone 10 south Florida) my main thing is orchids. I have them covering every tree and palm tree with bromeliads as well. I have to say they look amazing. Now I have done flower beds which has enhanced my garden - thanks to you. But I have to say you make it look much easier than reality.
First of all let me start by saying how much I love your videos and beautiful landscape ideas. Great job, y’all!!! This video came just at the right moment. We want a fast growing boxwood that doesn’t take up too much room in depth; we don’t want it to spill over into our neighbor’s yard. So, do we plant it 4’ from property line, or 2’? You also mentioned it does well to zone 8. We are in zone 9, however, these boxwood will be fully shaded beneath oak trees, all the time. So perhaps they will be okay....maybe?
This was great! I wonder if you could do an approximate cost rundown on your videos? It would be really helpful to those of us on tighter budgets to be able to know what some of these projects might entail. I realize you aren’t paying for these plants, but with your folks in the garden business, you probably know what someone could expect to pay retail. Thanks!
We got the same Sprinter Boxwoods at Home Depot for $22 per shrub. Then factor in BioTone root starter ($12 per bag) some compost or soil conditioner if needed ($15 per bag) and mulch on top. So not real expensive but it adds up depending on how many.
Snow protects plants. It sounds counterintuitive, but it protects them from severely cold temperatures. It also protects against wind burn and winter dehydration.
Great info Laura. With the spacing so close I was surprised you didn't just dig a trench instead of individual holes. Looking forward to seeing this area as you develop it.
Laura, First of all I want to thank you and your husband for doing these videos. Secondly, I am trying to find the Sprinter Boxwood know one seems to have it in my area, Tigard, Oregon? Can you please tell me where you found it?
I would love to hear you talk more about how and when to start training your boxwoods into a hedge. When to prune, how often, how severe or light to prune, how you shape them into different forms, etc. great videos as always with tons of useful info!
I never worry about the length of your videos as they are packed with helpful information. Keep em’ coming girlfriend! Beverly
Saturday morning, coffee, quiet and Garden Answer! Does it get any better!! 🌼. I love the boxwood hedges. It will be lovely!
My mom has boxwood and they have lasted over 50 yrs. They are beautiful. Thanks Laura and Aaron for this video very helpful.
Laura, your soil looks scrumptious, and I love Aaron's choice of music!
Eat it
Lovin' the soothing jazzy vibes too! Makes a mass planting seem easier.
The hedge already looks lovely. Measuring from the house is what I did when I dug a new bed on the side of my house 2 years ago. The weeping willow looks glorious 😍😍😍💜💚💛

Thanks for the tips on spacing! I planted 18 arborvitae a month ago and have been worrying they were too close but based on this I feel better!
Love what and how you do it. Sooo appreciate your attention to detail, How you measure and space things out. My husband and I are the. And the results are worth it!
Really cool way of spacing them with that block of wood
Really love seeing how everything is coming together.
And, yes, the hedge compliments the house beautifully.
Can't wait to see the project behind the hedge.
I just tilled the side of my house for 10 Aborvitaes and boxwoods. Thanks for the inspiration
I love boxwoods! I planted six Green Mountain Boxwoods in my front garden. They’re stunning.

Good information on the English Boxwood odor. We have some in our neighborhood at the corner and it really smells! Now I know why.

Omg im addicted to these videos. Lol I love them learning so much!🤗😉👍
2 weeks ago I bought boxwoods for a buck each!! At Lowes here in Canada- I planted them and hope they survive the winter, but what a deal!
I love Boxwood hedges, any day, anyplace lol. Your's look so nice there and will look fabulous as they grow. Thank you for sharing your information and time.
You are the closest thing America has to England's Monty Don, and I love watching
you both! Aaron does a fantastic job producing these videos.
Right? laura and monty are my biggest inspirations in the garden
I totally agree. I love the fact that Laura is clear and to the point with information and Aaron making sure the videos are quality. It helps us to concentrate better on everything.

I learned so much! from center... I did not know that...some boxwood smell like cat pee...🙀AND why
The big boxwood hedge in my backyard from the previous owners look woody. Thanks Lauren!!🌳🌳🌳
Quite an inspiring idea. I wanted to plant a row of burning bushes along the back fence, but there is too much shade. Boxwood may be the answer.
Please do a garden tour and show all the beautiful fall colors!!! The willow looks😍😍😍
Looks great! I tried to find sprinter boxwoods in my area and was unsuccessful. The garden centers around here had never heard of them. Side note, I'd like to know who on earth gives the thumbs down to your videos. What is there to thumb down?? They're great videos!

Love watching your ideas and planting progress of others you've done in the past. The hedge is going to look so nice when all grown in.
Your Willow tree looks so good.
Looking forward to spring to see what is forth coming in this area 🌼
The boxwood hedge looks awesome! I can't wait to see your next project.

In Belgium and the Netherlands all of our boxwoods got eaten by the boxwood tree moth! Love your videos!
Love watching everything you do! So neat looking! I do enjoy your longer videos!🍁
