    Dawn was first produced by Topper in 1970, not the '60s at all. And Gary's not so nerdy when he wears custom fashions. He actually looks pretty cool. I collect these, and I like to sew for the guys.

    My Topper Dawn 50th Anniversary Doll
    When I first saw Dawn she was on display at a local drugstore. I didn't know her name. I was five so all I knew her as was that "Doll With The Long Hair." One morning she showed up on my Cheerios box...Dawn, her name is Dawn💕🙎‍♂️Within seconds I saw the Topper Double Trouble race car!🤩👍WOW! A super model beatiful girl and a super neato race car! Dynomite!💥Topper knew how to get this 1970 boy's attention. FAR OUT! 🚀

    The tiny shoes were a pain in the ass, but I loved the silver & gold stuff in the outfits. I also had the beauty shop, the phone & lounger, the fashion show (not portrayed in the clip here), & the bigger fashion case with the dancers on the front.

    Growing up in the ‘90s, I was privileged for my parents to get dolls of Barbie and her family and friends, though in adulthood, I learned that my mom, who grew up in the ‘70s never had a Barbie doll, but instead had a Dawn doll.
    Thinking about this inspired me to watch this video. Though, I wouldn’t know exactly which one she had.
    I haven’t looked up what the market for Dawn dolls look like now, but I’d imagine that they’d be a bit rare among collectors. Anyone experienced what prices average on places like eBay?

    So funny.....that's actually NOT Kevin in the commercial, it's Ron. Kevin's hair is parted on his left side, not his right. But Kevin is my favorite of the guys. The guys always got short shrift on the fashions, which is why I like to sew for them.

    Dancing Dawn was a pain in the ass to dress. My favorites were Angie and Long Locks. Does anyone remember their white haired Dawn coming as a majorette or something to do with marching band? I know we didn't have the disco (ew). I really remember her in a drum major outfit.

    • @tenorlove
      @tenorlove 3 роки тому

      Yes, there was a Majorette Dawn. My BFF had her. The arms twirled, but were stiff, so she could only wear the outfits that had a ring collar fastener. I altered the straps on Blue Pouf so she could wear it.

    I don't believe it was Dawn- maybe Barbie came out with one- but I remember as a kid playing with my best friend with a stage like this, and it wasn't battery-operated, there were levers to move the dolls. I'm sure it wasn't the disco because it had a straight track with a U-bend to go back that you had to follow. Maybe it was something generic. Anyway, I distinctly remember me and my friend constantly racing them to see how fast they could go.

      @Enchanted Dove: No, he doesn't need to "get a life". If you, as a woman, have a problem with him doing what he was doing, then I have to say that HE is definitely not the one who is in need of "getting a life"! Also, if they did give him crap about doing that commercial, then that's very sad, because it was cool that they actually showed that it was all right for men to play around with the dolls, too, and it doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with them for doing so. Obviously, back in the early 1970s, we didn't have the hang-ups about men and what is supposed to be the "male role" in society, that we have now!
      Women and girls should not be having a problem with this!

      He is Henry Orenstein, the founder of Topper Corp and Dawn dolls. He also created other toys such as Transformers. He just recently passed away at the age of 98. He was a Holocaust survivor and wrote a book called, "I Shall Live: Surviving The Holocaust Against All Odds". An amazing and remarkable man he certainly was.
