It now says #1 Best Seller on Amazon and #1 in Amazon’s Vegetable Gardening section! 🎉🎉🎉
Omg that's great!
Gordana Stefanovic isn’t it!
Wowsers! That's awesome-its all gruwb so much! I've been watching pretty much since the beginning & what growth inside out for many as well🌼💜☄
And we don’t even know what’s in it!
🤔😆
🎉🎉🎉
"Harvest the lesson that you're gonna do it differently the next year". That is so encouraging to remember.
Hearing the news that you have written a book and also the success you are already having brought tears to my eyes! You are an inspiration to me.. your love for God and family firstly but everything you’ve accomplished makes me believe I can do it too. My kids said.. i don’t have a spirit animal but I do have a spirit Jess 😊 love you and your channel.. keep it coming!!
Ground cherries germinate best in 90° Temp n lots of
Mositure.....tried first time
N my whole tray of eight seeds ...alllll germinated with in ONE week.!!!!! Good luck.....
Jess: Don't worry, things will get too big and will get away from you.
Me and my one tomato: 😂
Right?! Literally 4 in total and now my 2 tomato plants have blight. 🙄 It is my first year.
same I harvested 7 carrots the other day. SEVEN lol but im just on the beginning of learning how to garden 😂
MD, one tomato has every bit the anarchy that 300 of them do! Hahah also remember she has help ha but of all the plants in the garden, tomatoes are just begging to go rogue, so take it as a compliment that it’s done so haha when they’re sick they hardly grow at all!
🤣
@@taytaysharrard my first year of growing carrots I grew many carrot tops with piddley little roots! 7 sounds great! LOL
Congratulations on your book. My suggestion for the next book is the Adventures of the Roots and Refuge Farm featuring your small boys. What a wonderful tool for the millions of children in this country who will never have the opportunity of living on a farm. I can just see the stories of the boys on their hammock, their vegetable garden, the wonder of baby chicks and pigs plus all the vegetables and fruits they enjoy. How many children even know what a ground cherry is?
Okay. Real talk. It is time for you to add YOUR book to the good reads section of your amazon affiliate link! February can't come soon enough! Congrats!
Try that monster melon/cucumber the Greek style: with feta cheese, fresh mint and oregano, olive oil, balsaic vinegar and a tiny bit of honey. You can also add some tiny hot pepper cubes sprinkled on top.
Oh my goodness that sounds beyond delicious!! Thank you for this idea.
I had this idea also!! It is amazingg
That sounds great!
Cathrina Groiss oh wow, that sounds fabulous!
Bear strolling through in the background, sitting in the background... Always watching over Mama. So sweet! Love the HIYAH with the giant melon!
I had to pause the video at the very beginning because I felt so strongly to share that as you were describing the book soaring up into the top 100, God tickled me to share a verse describing the blessings that have been showering down on ya'll (exploding UA-cam, gifts galore, your book taking off...and plenty I know we aren't aware of yet!). Along with a few tears at his abundance of love. Proverbs 28:20 - A faithful man will abound with blessings. You guys have been faithful through and through, and He is delighting in blessing y'all!
Ok. Now to sit back and enjoy the rest of your tour!😊
Thank you so much! I always value your voice!
@@RootsandRefugeFarm Aw! Thank you! That is so sweet of you to say! I'm just so thrilled for you, Miah, and the kids!
Could not agree more !
Amen
Did anyone else pause the video just to go and preorder her book before it pre sells out 😂😂😂 #jessmademedoit #jessobessed
Yes, I left the vid playing while I preordered the book
I preordered it and am so excited for her. With the exorbitant amount of knowledge Jess has about gardening it would be foolish not to order. Her passion for the garden is a blessing to us.
Your book is #23 at this very moment. Yay!!
😵😵🎊🎊🎊🎊
👏👏👏 🎉
That's so exciting!
HOW EXCITING!!!!
Some highly trained ninjas break thick boards and cement, real ninja gardeners break cucumbers lol. :)
Pretty much!
@@RootsandRefugeFarm and then instead of protein shakes you can power up for your cucumber breaking sessions with strawberry basil lemonade! I think I just figured out your next book for weight loss in the garden!
Yeah she's my hero lol that was awesome 🤣😊
The joy/surprise in her face after it was snapped was awesome.
Hearing that you made it to Amazon's top 100, #54 in such a short time definitely brought tears to my eyes!! You deserve it Jess, you are inspiring to many!!
You eating that GIANT white Armenian cucumber melon right in the garden was everything!! This is why we garden 🤗
28:16 . Bears sweet face waiting for his momma to finish in the high tunnel. I so love him.
Of course you should fill that bed with just sunflowers! It would be the perfect thing to greet your eyes when you look out the window first thing in the morning!
Congratulations Ms. Jessica on the book. I've mentioned before, you have many gifts and sometimes I get teary eyed when I hear how you put your words together. One such quote, "Sometimes you just have to let someone love you." That Ms. Jessica is profound. God's many blessings to you and your family.
Jack Saffell, your message is beautiful!
So well said Jack, took the words right out of my mouth..... BEAUTIFUL
So grateful for your thoughts on having peace when things aren’t perfect in the garden. We moved to a new home last fall, and our garden isn’t as perfect as I’d like it to be this year. But growing what we can while finding joy in the process rather than letting frustration creep in is key. This year is definitely more about trial and error, planning beds, and planning for next year. We love watching your channel- thanks for the inspiration!
Yessss. I look forward to this every week! Anyone else use the garden tour videos as a frame of reference for where we are in the week? 😅
Here! Haha
I winter sowed my ground cherries. They got going a little late but doing fine. Please don't hide your mistakes from us. It helps to relieve the stress of garden losses from the rest of us. Besides letting something go to seed at your house is not waste. By the way...
I love your "stewards of the earth" philosophy Bless you
"Harvest the lesson". So much grace in that. It's not a waste, if you learn from it.
Your book and Gary's book are both on the best sellers list. My heart is FULL!!! I am SO proud of you both and delight in your success. YAY!!!
Just pre-ordered my copy. It's the very least I can do to repay you for all the inspiration, encouragement, and knowledge you've shared that has helped me turn my own garden from a dream into reality!
💯
The Lord has had me in Jeremiah 31 a lot lately. It's all so good, but one of my favorite parts is v. 12 and 14-"They will be radiant with His good gifts... They will feast on His good gifts." This is so you. I'm so happy for you and how your dreams are continuing to come true! It's fun to be on the journey with you.
Thank you so much for this!!!
You need some purple passion passion fruit vine in you cottage garden. They have such unusual flowers and that variety will produce where you live, most of it is tropical.
Love love love the passion fruit & it's flower🏵🌿🏵
the passion fruit I have sends runners everywhere, in the grass, in my raised beds. So beware.
That monster armenian white had me laughing so hard.
Jennifer Teacher love them pickled they’re the best
Any chance you would share a few Armenian cucumber seeds? I may need 3.
Same here.. would happily paiy for them :(
Loved the Armenian giant - add with roasted pine nuts to a sweet vinegar dressing salad. I'm going let a few of mine get that huge too! Thanks as always!
Proud of you writing a book...I’m sure your family is busting with joy.....
Next book idea....a daily prayer for woman but with nature, gardens and family includes....sort of like Chicken Soup for the Soul....Jess style.
Since you introduced me to Armenian White, I've wanted to grow them. Your experience in this video has brought a whole new perspective - now I really really want to grow them. It was beautiful watching you experience this awe and joy and laughter. You are genuine. This is why I'm glad I found your channel, and continue to watch and support.
You're UA-cam video are great I've learned more about gardening and also about finding the the peace Within Myself because of your Channel!
I've learned to stop and enjoy the things that are special to me because of your words! Thank you again!
Yay!!! My favorite videos 😍 you’re 3 weeks ahead of me and I always feel like my garden is going soo slow but then I remember “but Jess has just started harvesting tomatoes.. mine are green, we’re doing okay” 🤣👌🏻
I got my first Kajari yesterday. It went from green to orange in 10 hours, and then fell off the plant, so I figure it was done! It's amazing. Such a good little melon. I saved the seeds for next year. Very delicious melon. Thanks for introducing me to them!
Yep they fall off when they are ready
I want one!
Do they take a lot of room? I have a very small space.
Oh I gotta plant those, I hate cantaloupe. But those just look tasty.😍
@@maryshowalter6910 I've got a pretty small garden. I have 6 8x4'' raised beds. On one of the beds, I have a 3.5' high fence along one side. I have three Kajari plants along that 8' of raised bed, and they are climbing up and along that fence beautifully. They do not appear to be crowding each other out, and are producing quite a lot of melons. Right now I have 3 melons that are within one week of ripening, and at least 6 more younger ones growing. In that same bed, I have a row of Okra growing. Since the okra don't need support, and I train the Kajari to only grow on the fence, they don't interfere with each other at all.
Honestly thank you so much for your videos. You give me faith and alot of peace in my day. I love watching your knowledge and growth both in your faith, family and menagerie of animals. Thank you for sharing your light and constant positivity. You are a light of inspiration.
Now that your corn ears have made silks, you should put clothespins on the ends to keep the bugs out. I've gotten a few things from baker creek that were crossed, so not surprised. One of my atomic grape plants is making almost paste-sized tomatoes, some of the polar bear zinnias are pink, but I enjoy a few surprises. Put your next run of potatoes where the sunflowers were to avoid disease. Nice harvest! Maybe more corn where the squash was?
Thank you so much for this garden tour video! Had a really tough morning and cried a lot, and felt really lonely. I even went out in my garden and cried some. Your videos always help me feel better. Thank you!🌱💕
I once heard someone say "Your garden feeds more than just your familly, it can feed your animals and your soil/compost too. But most importantly it feeds your soul."
Every time i watch one of your videos i have to think of that. Thank you for sharing your garden and harvest with us.
You could try to grow the black varieties on the east-south side of the high tunnel next year?
Right now your book is #1 best seller in vegetable gardening section. Woot woot! Congrats Jess!
I just pre-ordered my copy! Not because I can't find out how to garden in tons of other places, but because of you Jess! I'm excited to hear from YOU in that book ♥ Congratulations!
Not specific to this video, but checking your website and shop is leaving me in tears. You are such an inspiring light. And I also just received my pour-over and kettle 💗 thanks for your time and so much more Jess!
Nothing in the garden is ever wasted it just serves a different purpose.
I'm not a new gardener but I'm going to buy one just to support you! You're such an inspiration & I love how open & honest & transparent you are. You are one of the UA-camrs that inspired me to start a channel myself. (Something I've wanted to do a LONG time but always felt like it wasn't the "perfect time." But I finally did it! I only have 2 videos edited so far- I'm not the best/quickest at editing yet but I'm learning! Thank you for all that you do, thank you for sharing your life with us!
WOOOOOT!!!
So Thrilled to hear you made 54th...cant wait to get the book.
I have a tiny garden, but I just love to see what will grow. This year the weather has been terrible, so I'm letting most go to seed to see what it looks like..
Carrot have pretty flowers... lol
Reseeding a couple things to see if I can get anything before frost. I am inspired for next year, thank you for all the tips. ( And I'll have your book)
Praying for you and your beautiful family ♡♡♡
I am so stinking excited for you I have been watching you for a long long time and I don't usually comment a lot but I think that everything you do is pretty good and fantastic and I am so happy that you have a book out
I have to admit smtg... I rarely watch your videos but I can't unsub bcs seeing your smile in my feed makes my day better
I did the exact same thing with hot banana peppers, expected them to be a slightly hotter version than sweet banana peppers and found out the hard way that they are hotter than expected.
Hahahah WAY hotter
Me too! I cringed as she bit into it. Mine are hotter than most the jalapenos in my Garden.
@@5feralkidsandafarm I have Ghost Peppers and Carolina Reapers growing this year, I am eating Jalapeños as my sweet peppers this year. But yeah on a serious note Hot Banana Peppers are not a Mildish or Medium hot, they pack a little sting.
@@RootsandRefugeFarm Doesn't it feel great when that heat wears off an a positive vibe goes through your body. Sometimes the burn is needed to feel that ultimate relaxing pleasure hot peppers bring.
Freeze frame on Jess's big smile with the giant Armenian White! 👍
Jealous jealous jealous. I am so envious of your garden. Mine has just now started producing. My tomatoes are putting out flowers, my okra is growing strong, I have had about a week of cucumbers. The spinach is all eaten the corn is just standing there. I know my garden will produce in a few. It's just the waiting and drooling is driving me crazy. I am hoping for my first okra fry by maybe Monday. You Rock and Thank you
My 6 year old granddaughter said your garden would be an awesome place to play hide and seek lol She loved the cottage garden ❤️
Girl... you are such an inspiration! I feel so inferior and behind in my garden...I want to grow so much more and create a specific space to have my garden in and it's going to be allot of work...I feel defeated before I even begin. But listening to your word's of inspiration gives me such incentive! God bless! 💚
Congrats at being on amazon’s 54🎉
Thank you Jess for thinking of us international viewers with the book also. Found one shop from the list, that delivers to Finland, and preordered immediately. Our growing season in Finland is somewhat shorter and cooler, but its not going to stop me trying new things. And for that, you are huge inspiration. Love your channel, and have been watching your vlog posts every morning with my breakfast for over a year now.
Wouldn't it be cool if you had tiny fairy lights or some kind of lights on the rocks bordering all your little cottage garden beds? That would be majestic at night time.
Hi, Jess... When I checked a few minutes ago (3:10 pm 7/18/2020) it showed that you had moved into the NUMBER ONE slot for vegetable gardening. I took a screen shot and emailed it to you! CONGRATULATIONS! Best wishes from Kate in Olympia, WA
You are currently number 1 girl!!! I am so happy for you!!
I glad you share with us, you do a very good job. It is always good to learn what others do and experience no matter how much we know and experience. Take care, be safe!
Girl! It is so hard gratifying to watch you living your dream.😊 I've learned so much watching your videos this winter, Spring and Summer. I've ordered seeds that I never knew I wanted to grow and ate things that I didn't know I liked. I'm looking forward to the Fall garden more than in any other year. Thanks for showing the kajari plants. I was curious about how long they take to develop. I'm trying some this Fall.🤞 And, yes.....plant a full bed of sunflowers🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻!
Jess that was and awesome melon chop😂💖, you're a strong woman. I love how you kinda got lost in your taste test. I truly believe you didn't wanna stop eating that melon. Don't ever change girl 😂😍
We all love you just as you are.😉
You are the cutest human being alive!
Totally agree
Jess, I am so proud of you regarding your book! Top 100 on amazon!?! That is incredibly mind blowing. You're SO amazing, good good good for you! Cant wait to receive my copy next year. February is the perfect time for the release!
Love you n all of yours. Keep on killin it!
Honestly, I feel like you just did a garden tour earlier this week. Lol. But it's ok. I enjoy getting to indulge in a fantasy of having a huge productive garden of my own someday. I know why the San Marzano has such a great appeal in popularity. But in Italy, it's not about the actual tomato that makes it amazing. It is actually the volcanic soil they grow all of their veg in. And it is that soil that makes them amazing and unsurpassed in the flavor profile. San Marzano is actually just the label of the canned tomatoes. And they always can their tomatoes with some whole Genevese sweet basil leaves to give them their unique canned tomato flavoring. Any plum tomato will be good for a thick creamy sauce including large cherries! Great share. Thank you for it. And congrats on the new book!
LADYBUG. YOU DESERVE ALL OF BLESSED BE THAT COMES YOUR WAY. WHAT A JOURNEY YOU ARE ON. EMBRACE IT WE APPRECIATE YOU TOO!
Your book is the number one garden book on amazon and its not even releases yet. Congrats! I cant wait to get mine. I just started loving gardening. My hubby used to be the one that done it all. I love watching you and your family. You are a very interesting group!
Watching you noshing on that melon was hilarious. Made my day!
I’m looking forward to goats, chickens and pigs for just that reason❣️
Artie the artichoke flowers will be SOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!! Your garden looks so WILD but in the good way 🤗😍
Congratulations Jess! If you only knew that your light seeped through a small crack and made me emerge from the darkness.
"HARVEST THE LESSON." -Jessica Sowards
I look forward to seeing your videos every week! Puts a smile on my face 100%
Congrats on the book, Jess! Can’t wait!! Top 100!! Wooo, you go, girl!

OMG! #54! I almost could cry, that’s HUGE! 😀👏🏼🎇
Isn't it?! Of ALL the books!
I just garvested noodle beans yesterday. I actually shelled the bigger ones and added some segments of younger ones...cooked them like crowder peas with snaps! Yummy! They really do grow like field peas.
Your red/purple beans are so beautiful~ I just love to look at that trellis😍
please don't apologize for showing us those things that you have skipped or left because those of us especially new gardeners are very thankful to know what to do with that kind of stuff! You are amazing and we appreciate you SO much! ❤️ Thank you for being willing to be transparent and share your life and heart with us!
Hey Jess, thanks to you I planted Kajari melons this year, I cannot believe how well they are doing. I have them planted over a cow panel and they are taking over, 6 seeds and I have 2 dozen so far and many more babies coming. They are so delicious absolutely love them!
Congrats on your new book! Already TOP SELLERS too! You are soooo humble, I’d be like wearing a t-shirt advertising it. Lol You deserve it so much, I’m so happy for you. Can’t wait to receive my copy. Xxo
I was one of those pre-orders. I had been wishing for all this good information in writing. Thank You, Jess

Honey when you get busy and the things you grow gets past a eatable stat just say it goes to the creation. Back to the soil from where it came. There is only so much you can do. :) Look forward to getting your book.
You’re videos are so inspiring ✨ Love this! I would love to see more harvest and preserving in the kitchen too.
I just watched Justin Rhodes and he advertised your upcoming book. I love that the people I follow all know each other and give each other props. Congrats by the way. Awesome that your book is already doing so well.
Saw your book mentioned on Justin’s channel and my heart just warmed to know how wonderfully supported (and justifiably so) you and your hard work are. 🥰🥰😍
Thanks so much on sharing that we can core and score tomatoes, freeze them, and can them later. That is a life saver. Guess what I am doing today! 🤗🙏🏻 Pre-ordering your book too. Excited to soak it all in. Been gardening since I was a kid, I am 65 now. I totally enjoy you and your videos. I am in love with Benjamin! He is beyond precious! May your Blessings continue and please continue blessing us with your online presence ♥️ Abby
Jess I'm so proud of you and your success! I've found you only a few months ago but feel like I've known you forever. Congrats on building a great homestead and sharing your knowledge with others. Would you mind sharing your salsa recipe?
I'm so excited for your book! Congratulations! I had to show my husband when I heard about it coming out this winter 💓 I'm old school and will probably break out my highlighter while I read lol I also appreciate so much that you don't hide the imperfections in your vlogs!
Thanks for your dedication to us guys.....

Wow! That’s exciting!!!! Wow! The Lord blessed you! I gotta see that book! God bless you!!
harvested two of my potato plants today. 6 large ones and four small ones. I don't eat a lot of them but hoping what I harvest will be all that I need for the year.
I am so excited for you! I pre-ordered your book and after your garden tour I went to Justen Rhodes and he promoted your book!! How exciting is that!? I am so happy for your success!
Congratulations on your book! Your garden is Beautiful. Glad to see I’m not the only one that walks around the garden and taste everything. Have a blessed day
Congrats on the book!! We recommended your UA-cam channel to new gardeners!! Now we can recommend the book!! You are such a helpful and great teacher!!
There's always next year. Besides, the main thing is enjoying gardening, not that everything turns out "perfect"
Salsa! Would love that salsa recipe - look fwd to that video. Congrats on the book! Always feel such joy & happiness when others do well 😁
Jess how amazing, thank you for writing this book! I agree, I let go some during the summer months. If I don't eat it my critters will.
Love you Jess💙 I've learned so much for you
