I preordered it and am so excited for her. With the exorbitant amount of knowledge Jess has about gardening it would be foolish not to order. Her passion for the garden is a blessing to us.
@@RootsandRefugeFarm and then instead of protein shakes you can power up for your cucumber breaking sessions with strawberry basil lemonade! I think I just figured out your next book for weight loss in the garden!
I had to pause the video at the very beginning because I felt so strongly to share that as you were describing the book soaring up into the top 100, God tickled me to share a verse describing the blessings that have been showering down on ya'll (exploding UA-cam, gifts galore, your book taking off...and plenty I know we aren't aware of yet!). Along with a few tears at his abundance of love. Proverbs 28:20 - A faithful man will abound with blessings. You guys have been faithful through and through, and He is delighting in blessing y'all! Ok. Now to sit back and enjoy the rest of your tour!😊
Congratulations on your book. My suggestion for the next book is the Adventures of the Roots and Refuge Farm featuring your small boys. What a wonderful tool for the millions of children in this country who will never have the opportunity of living on a farm. I can just see the stories of the boys on their hammock, their vegetable garden, the wonder of baby chicks and pigs plus all the vegetables and fruits they enjoy. How many children even know what a ground cherry is?
Of course you should fill that bed with just sunflowers! It would be the perfect thing to greet your eyes when you look out the window first thing in the morning!
Try that monster melon/cucumber the Greek style: with feta cheese, fresh mint and oregano, olive oil, balsaic vinegar and a tiny bit of honey. You can also add some tiny hot pepper cubes sprinkled on top.
So grateful for your thoughts on having peace when things aren’t perfect in the garden. We moved to a new home last fall, and our garden isn’t as perfect as I’d like it to be this year. But growing what we can while finding joy in the process rather than letting frustration creep in is key. This year is definitely more about trial and error, planning beds, and planning for next year. We love watching your channel- thanks for the inspiration!
I winter sowed my ground cherries. They got going a little late but doing fine. Please don't hide your mistakes from us. It helps to relieve the stress of garden losses from the rest of us. Besides letting something go to seed at your house is not waste. By the way... I love your "stewards of the earth" philosophy Bless you
Just pre-ordered my copy. It's the very least I can do to repay you for all the inspiration, encouragement, and knowledge you've shared that has helped me turn my own garden from a dream into reality!
Congratulations Ms. Jessica on the book. I've mentioned before, you have many gifts and sometimes I get teary eyed when I hear how you put your words together. One such quote, "Sometimes you just have to let someone love you." That Ms. Jessica is profound. God's many blessings to you and your family.
Hearing that you made it to Amazon's top 100, #54 in such a short time definitely brought tears to my eyes!! You deserve it Jess, you are inspiring to many!!
I once heard someone say "Your garden feeds more than just your familly, it can feed your animals and your soil/compost too. But most importantly it feeds your soul." Every time i watch one of your videos i have to think of that. Thank you for sharing your garden and harvest with us. You could try to grow the black varieties on the east-south side of the high tunnel next year?
You need some purple passion passion fruit vine in you cottage garden. They have such unusual flowers and that variety will produce where you live, most of it is tropical.
Yay!!! My favorite videos 😍 you’re 3 weeks ahead of me and I always feel like my garden is going soo slow but then I remember “but Jess has just started harvesting tomatoes.. mine are green, we’re doing okay” 🤣👌🏻
I got my first Kajari yesterday. It went from green to orange in 10 hours, and then fell off the plant, so I figure it was done! It's amazing. Such a good little melon. I saved the seeds for next year. Very delicious melon. Thanks for introducing me to them!
@@maryshowalter6910 I've got a pretty small garden. I have 6 8x4'' raised beds. On one of the beds, I have a 3.5' high fence along one side. I have three Kajari plants along that 8' of raised bed, and they are climbing up and along that fence beautifully. They do not appear to be crowding each other out, and are producing quite a lot of melons. Right now I have 3 melons that are within one week of ripening, and at least 6 more younger ones growing. In that same bed, I have a row of Okra growing. Since the okra don't need support, and I train the Kajari to only grow on the fence, they don't interfere with each other at all.
Sometimes a harvest gets away from us. We can’t beat ourselves up for it. As you said, yours goes to seed saving, compost, and animals. That’s not wasting.
I just pre-ordered my copy! Not because I can't find out how to garden in tons of other places, but because of you Jess! I'm excited to hear from YOU in that book ♥ Congratulations!
I live in eastern Tennessee, I grow 25 to 30 heirlooms per year with cattle panels just like you do.... Theirs only one kind I grow that isn't a heirloom, it being sun gold.. As far as just tasting tomatoes standing in the garden their was only one tomato out of 30 that was as good as the sun gold, it was the "Black seaman".. some sites say they are determinate some say they are indeterminate.. They grow fine as a indeterminate to me growing two tops, growing two tops on a seaman does not hurt the size of the tomato, they produce amazing... Just something to throw out there, they are amazingly sweet for a slicing mid to large tomato....
I am so stinking excited for you I have been watching you for a long long time and I don't usually comment a lot but I think that everything you do is pretty good and fantastic and I am so happy that you have a book out

Beautiful! We grew Parsian Pickling Cucumbers this year for the first time and they are our new favorite! I always love your refreshing look at the garden and growing. Not specific to this video, but checking your website and shop is leaving me in tears. You are such an inspiring light. And I also just received my pour-over and kettle 💗 thanks for your time and so much more Jess!
Thanks so much on sharing that we can core and score tomatoes, freeze them, and can them later. That is a life saver. Guess what I am doing today! 🤗🙏🏻 Pre-ordering your book too. Excited to soak it all in. Been gardening since I was a kid, I am 65 now. I totally enjoy you and your videos. I am in love with Benjamin! He is beyond precious! WOOOOOT!!! So Thrilled to hear you made 54th...cant wait to get the book. I have a tiny garden, but I just love to see what will grow. This year the weather has been terrible, so I'm letting most go to seed to see what it looks like.. Carrot have pretty flowers... lol Reseeding a couple things to see if I can get anything before frost. I am inspired for next year, thank you for all the tips. ( And I'll have your book) Praying for you and your beautiful family ♡♡♡
Jealous jealous jealous. I am so envious of your garden. Mine has just now started producing. My tomatoes are putting out flowers, my okra is growing strong, I have had about a week of cucumbers. The spinach is all eaten the corn is just standing there. I know my garden will produce in a few. It's just the waiting and drooling is driving me crazy. I am hoping for my first okra fry by maybe Monday. You Rock and Thank you
I did the exact same thing with hot banana peppers, expected them to be a slightly hotter version than sweet banana peppers and found out the hard way that they are hotter than expected.
@@5feralkidsandafarm I have Ghost Peppers and Carolina Reapers growing this year, I am eating Jalapeños as my sweet peppers this year. But yeah on a serious note Hot Banana Peppers are not a Mildish or Medium hot, they pack a little sting.
@@RootsandRefugeFarm Doesn't it feel great when that heat wears off an a positive vibe goes through your body. Sometimes the burn is needed to feel that ultimate relaxing pleasure hot peppers bring.
Congrats on the book!! We recommended your UA-cam channel to new gardeners!! Now we can recommend the book!! You are such a helpful and great teacher!!
We have a small space to grow but we are having a decent gardening season. We've learned a few things that have surprised us (mostly the "what not to do" things) which has made this an amazing learning season! So excited to regroup, better prepare and grow more next year!
Girl... you are such an inspiration! I feel so inferior and behind in my garden...I want to grow so much more and create a specific space to have my garden in and it's going to be allot of work...I feel defeated before I even begin. But listening to your word's of inspiration gives me such incentive! God bless! 💚
Jess your garden is still so beautiful and it is so giving, and your woopsi doodles helps the rest of us feel like we are not alone in our ooopsi doodles. Congrats on the new book, it has been such a joy over the past two years to see how your garden has grown you.
Thank you Jess for thinking of us international viewers with the book also. Found one shop from the list, that delivers to Finland, and preordered immediately. Our growing season in Finland is somewhat shorter and cooler, but its not going to stop me trying new things. And for that, you are huge inspiration. Love your channel, and have been watching your vlog posts every morning with my breakfast for over a year now.
Thank you for (Not) embarrassing yourself... I love that you’re YOU! Down to earth, practical, & the ability to become a friend & mentor online!! I’ve been on a learning curve with gardening techniques for most of my adult life LOL!. My house looks like a jungle & my garden generally does well so I know my thumb is a little green, I just have to get the timing right LOL! Thank you for your encouragement and instruction! Oh & my birthday is in February & I informed my husband that he had plenty of time to get my present ordered😜🥰
Please consider growing a big patch of sweet corn and pumpkins in your back garden, where the squash were. It's so great in fall to have a big harvest of corn to eat off the cob, and pumpkins are so fun to harvest for pies and breads!
Now that your corn ears have made silks, you should put clothespins on the ends to keep the bugs out. I've gotten a few things from baker creek that were crossed, so not surprised. One of my atomic grape plants is making almost paste-sized tomatoes, some of the polar bear zinnias are pink, but I enjoy a few surprises. Put your next run of potatoes where the sunflowers were to avoid disease. Nice harvest! Maybe more corn where the squash was?

Cheers 😍👍💓💗💖

last year was the year of variegated plants, this year is the year of roses 🌹💚
Beautiful! We grew Parsian Pickling Cucumbers this year for the first time and they are our new favorite! I always love your refreshing look at the garden and growing. Today we decided to utilize a never touched part of our property to grow melons and pumpkins next year. It is exciting to find new ways to provide for the family!
Honestly thank you so much for your videos. You give me faith and alot of peace in my day. I love watching your knowledge and growth both in your faith, family and menagerie of animals. Thank you for sharing your light and constant positivity. You are a light of inspiration.

You’re amazing! You’re a mom, wife, entrepreneur, boss lady! I just ordered your book! Can’t wait!! I’ve learned so much from you these past few weeks. My only regret is not starting a garden and finding you sooner! You have a beautiful family! God bless! ❤️🙏🏼
May your Blessings continue and please continue blessing us with your online presence ♥️ Abby
My 6 year old granddaughter said your garden would be an awesome place to play hide and seek lol She loved the cottage garden ❤️
You are doing a wonderful job....I love that you let things go, that’s part of life. I’m learning so much from you. I bless you sweet girl.
I'm not a new gardener but I'm going to buy one just to support you! You're such an inspiration & I love how open & honest & transparent you are. You are one of the UA-camrs that inspired me to start a channel myself. (Something I've wanted to do a LONG time but always felt like it wasn't the "perfect time." But I finally did it! I only have 2 videos edited so far- I'm not the best/quickest at editing yet but I'm learning! Thank you for all that you do, thank you for sharing your life with us!
WOOOOOT!!!
So Thrilled to hear you made 54th...cant wait to get the book.
I have a tiny garden, but I just love to see what will grow. This year the weather has been terrible, so I'm letting most go to seed to see what it looks like..
Carrot have pretty flowers... lol
Reseeding a couple things to see if I can get anything before frost. I am inspired for next year, thank you for all the tips. ( And I'll have your book)
Praying for you and your beautiful family ♡♡♡
Jealous jealous jealous. I am so envious of your garden. Mine has just now started producing. My tomatoes are putting out flowers, my okra is growing strong, I have had about a week of cucumbers. The spinach is all eaten the corn is just standing there. I know my garden will produce in a few. It's just the waiting and drooling is driving me crazy. I am hoping for my first okra fry by maybe Monday. You Rock and Thank you
I just wanna say ur so beautiful inside and out ♥ and thank u for all the help... I really enjoy watching ur videos ❤
I did the exact same thing with hot banana peppers, expected them to be a slightly hotter version than sweet banana peppers and found out the hard way that they are hotter than expected.
Hahahah WAY hotter
Me too! I cringed as she bit into it. Mine are hotter than most the jalapenos in my Garden.
Love you Jess💙 I've learned so much for you
We have a small space to grow but we are having a decent gardening season. We've learned a few things that have surprised us (mostly the "what not to do" things) which has made this an amazing learning season! So excited to regroup, better prepare and grow more next year!
So excited for the book! Congratulations, Jess!👏💜💛🐥🐐🐄🍅🍅🍅
Girl... you are such an inspiration! I feel so inferior and behind in my garden...I want to grow so much more and create a specific space to have my garden in and it's going to be allot of work...I feel defeated before I even begin. But listening to your word's of inspiration gives me such incentive! God bless! 💚

Love 💘 you Jess and 👪 family! Thanks for all you share with us. You are a bright spot in my day always. Hugs from FL. Jaime
Got some weeding and transplanting and herb harvesting done, now it's pouring down raining… perfect time for the garden tour with you!
I’m looking forward to goats, chickens and pigs for just that reason❣️
Thank you for (Not) embarrassing yourself... I love that you’re YOU! Down to earth, practical, & the ability to become a friend & mentor online!! I’ve been on a learning curve with gardening techniques for most of my adult life LOL!. My house looks like a jungle & my garden generally does well so I know my thumb is a little green, I just have to get the timing right LOL! Thank you for your encouragement and instruction! Oh & my birthday is in February & I informed my husband that he had plenty of time to get my present ordered😜🥰
OH YES!!! SUNFLOWERS!!!
Wowzer! Well done! You said you wanted to write a book and you did it. You go girl! Hugs and love!
