- My first win against Hardest AI. I tried to execute st4rk's pop-23 archer rush with the Britons. I didn't pull it off - I got housed and I messed up my order - but I still managed to win.
That was one of the most entertaining games i've seen in a long time. You should upload some more.
1. Awesome job I'll have to try this strategy. I've played about 20 games vs the hardest AI and cant seem to win no matter what I do
2. Ngl I may have tried using my mouse to move the screen, forgetting that I was watching a video lol
Thanks! Even though I played this game a lot back in the early 00s, I could barely beat Moderate when I first began playing. In my experience, apart from something like tower rushing or Persian Town Center rushing, the archer rush is the easiest way to beat the harder AI difficulties. Moving out with around ten Archers with Fletching, you should be able to secure a couple of Villager kills, which (so long as you maintain a constantly active TC back home) you can easily nurse into a win. Even if the AI has several Skirmishers ready to counter, you can always back off and try to hit Villagers from a different angle.
Nice vid! Gave me a few insights I think I was lacking.
well done build order. These early archers won the game for u, congratz!
by the way.. u forgot fleting! but still managing to won.
Thank you! Back when this video was first posted, I could barely remember my Dark Age builds. And yes, I completely forgot Fletching, and embarrassingly enough I occasionally forget it from time to time.
Ahh, nice. I see you didn't experience the same BS I am struggling with where you show up in feudal with 10 archers and somehow the AI has 20 skirms rockin and rollin,
is he scouting you? If he sees what you are doing, he will 100% counter it
@@mickwill131298 Would also say 1 tower can protect you against the AI's 20 skirms. It won't try to flank you for some reason or go past it. Can make army in the meantime. Best to get to Castle before the AI too, so you can castle his farm eco and then make units to kill his rams.
What hot keys are you using??? It's flawless
I use Definitive Edition's default "QWERT" setup wherein the keys Q through T, A through G, and Z through B correspond to the buttons in the build menus, production menus, etc. I'm sad to say that I don't really have a consistent control group setup, but it's typically something like:
Dark Age:
*Scout (group 1)
*Militia (group 2 -- only if drushing)
Feudal Age:
*Barracks (group 1)
*Archery Range (group 2)
*Stable (group 3)
*Army (group 7 or some other group unassigned)
Castle:
*Same as Feudal, in addition to...
*Siege Workshop (group 4)
*Castle (group 5)
*Monastery (group 6)
I know a lot of pros use control group 1 for all Town Centers, which does provide the benefit of being able to queue Villagers from multiple Town Centers without moving the screen; however, I'm so used to hotkey H to select next Town Center that I just press H, Q, Q over and over again to queue up Villagers. Finally, depending on my army composition, I'll typically use groups 7, 8, and 9 to manage different units (e.g., archers on 7, cavalry on 8, and trebuchets on 9).

No blacksmith?
Edit: why so late?
I was pretty bad at this game when this was posted. I mean, I still am, but I could barely remember my Dark Age build at this time. Now I've gotten better about throwing down a Blacksmith immediately after getting my Ranges.
