Oh man, the 414. I was 17 or 18 or 19 when I went there for 'Jump' and 'Deliverance' nights. Mid to Late nineties? Anyone remember a DJ named Melomaniac? He was magic. I have a couple of treasured tapes of his mixes. Good times!
Fantastic. I used to go 414 years before Nuclear Free when Barry had it as Steppas. Never give up djing mate. I loved your Optical radio show, and remember Controlled Weirdness guesting
Nicknam Nickname is Sol mate, that's what i use on fb as easier for squat party mates to find me.😊 Karen is government name n email. It was still 414 back in early 90's, but a Penge fella used to put on a night called Steppas. Can't really remember much of those nights, actually might have been 1987. It's mentioned just under something on google saying you wrote about harp club, flimflam etc if that helps. .@@ControlledWeirdness
Brilliant interview. Great DJ and such a lovely lady. Cool channel you got a new subscriber. Really interesting listen. Would be great to hear interviews with the Liberator DJs, Geezer D.A.V.E. The Drunmer Lawrie Immersion and Zebedee. 💚
Will enjoy this later...looking forward to your Zero Gravity tales, the 414...amazing stuff for me and my wife...we were in our 30's at the time...sometimes felt old...but this stuff took us to the next dimension...!!xxThankyou!xx
Great stories. Lots of touchpoints coinciding with or adjacent to me own 90s London. Really enjoyed the Zero Gravity parties I attended. I do remember always hearing that Cooltan had been a Job Centre before it was squatted as the arts / community / party place. Spent a lot of time there and abouts. Did you know the Offshore State Circus lot?
From doing some research it seems that it was a job centre and that Cooltan Arts took their name from the disused CoolTan Suntan Lotion factory they first squatted in Effra Road, Brixton. Good to finally know the right story :)
Remember the 414 as Steppas? Our first 'proper' night out was there...Optimist Creed...chunky funky house nights...cups of tea and spliffs...remember one night where one girl spent 8 hours dancing on the same speaker!...great doormen...party place...this was 1993, our mate did the backdrops...ooherr!xxx
