最後一段提到有外國人剛到臺灣，看不懂餐舘裡的中文菜單不知如何點餐，遭人訕笑，逼得她後來整天都只好去7-11解決吃的問題。我同意頻道主觀點，那不是嘲笑，只是臺灣人隨時隨地都掛著的禮貌友善笑臉，但這可要注意了！當沒有可笑之事，或是遇人尷尬甚至落難時也展露笑容，是會引起錯誤解讀的。
Yuan-ling HUANG 我在美國學校裡義工社團幫忙有關流浪漢的活動，在攤位上宣傳時，也是習慣性面帶微笑（我本身給人就是比較笑面印象的人），也或許我在跟社團同事相處或講解宣傳過程中呈現歡樂的氣氛？有個類似流浪漢的人走到我面前嚴厲地指責我為何跟人宣傳講解這種議題時還笑著，ㄧ直說著這不是ㄧ件可以讓我們（嘲）笑的事，就是認為我要嚴正以待的表情態度。當時雖然覺得有點委屈，但也打開了我不同的世界觀及工作處事態度。
Yvonne Lin 其實我最想講的就是你這裡提出的概念一一不能亂笑，很危險的。臺灣人很友善很愛笑，但是絶對要看情況場合。如果面對的事情一點也不好笑，就不宜展露歡顏，否則就會被人誤會反應過當甚至缺乏同情心。
@@yuan-linghuang1633 大部分台灣人在台灣知道什麼時候微笑(亦或就單純為了化解尷尬的笑)是適當的，這是台灣文化的甚至是亞洲的文化，如果你在台灣，其實不需要特別改變什麼。外國人來台灣本來就應該適應台灣的文化。
我敬佩有勇氣離開故鄉去其他陌生國家探險生活的人!!
我想大部分的人不會嘲笑外國人語言不通，應該說是覺得有趣或者對於自己無法與外國人交談而感到害羞而用笑來化解這種尷尬。

我也覺得是這樣，早餐站的歐巴桑們不太可能去嘲笑外國人，而是想用微笑來化解你無法流利表達中文，讓你可以順利點餐
這是個練習的機會，同樣的我們英文不好也是會試著去溝通，這才是學語言的目的，躲在7-11無法進步的啊~

I liked your answer. And yea, it's kinda BS that people who move abroad, which is something that requires a lot of effort and dedication, only do so because they have no other options. It takes a lot of resources and ingenuity to get started, it's not as simple as people make it out to be. And there are a lot of sacrifices. But would life be so different? You're still you. How much does the place you live really define you? Probably not that much.

Don’t think Taiwanese would laugh at you. They laugh because they felt embarrassed that they couldn’t help or communicate with you. It’s more like they were laughing at themselves. The number one rule for Taiwanese when they see or meet a foreigner is to help them as much as possible. They have this mentality thinking that they are the host and you are the guest.

很明顯的，台灣人離開的原因也不外乎是抱怨同儕會比較有房有車，會說國外比較注重個人。但事實上就是國外也是如此，只是你到了國外，不管是語言或是生活圈的關係讓你的朋友不再會問這些問題，這些台灣人便認為國外比較好。

趁著年輕，選個陌生的地方去住幾年，這個地方安全，對英語系國家的人來說，非常容易找工作養活自己，人民熱情，食物夠國際化，生活水準和歐美沒什麼差異，國際留客很多，有山又有水，大自然的美景ㄧ日內可到達，這樣的地方台灣應該稱得上是首選之一！ 最重要的是你們的青春無懼冒險精神，影響了很多台灣的年輕人，你們不見得會永遠長住，但生命中有過這樣的台灣經驗，是幸運！台灣絕不會讓你們後悔！ 好好享受你們的青春吧！
As a Taiwanese, I know we are kind of laughing a lot/too much at everything, even when our parents are angry at us and we are still laughing over the anger.. One day I laughed when a little boy of my British friend fell from learning walking, and my British friend was angry with me because I laughed, and I realized that this Taiwanese style is not OK in the UK, so I tried to stop myself time by time...

I can totally tell you why they laughed 99% of time; because they think you are cute! Period! Seriously! Just cute! Nothing else!
How I knew? My Taiwanese friend said that to me like zillion times whenever I got stuck in Mandarin, “awe.. that’s cute! It’s ok; this is how you pronounce it!”
I heard “好可愛啊” every time I was like, “ ugh.... I would like...” when I was back in Taiwan! Yep, they smiled or laughed, but I really believe that some of them were just as nervous as I did!
Besides, after they laughed, everyone, 100%, who smiled and/or laughed at me ended up helping me to get what I needed. And that was fine with me!

是啊，身為台灣人，說真的，大部分都是覺得很可愛，而不是在嘲笑你，如果你願意再進一步去了解那些阿姨。我想你會知道，大家都是覺得你很可愛很有趣。我身為台灣人，如果你是真的犯下嚴重的錯誤(尤其是工作上)才會嘲笑你。點餐方面，可以用手去指你想要的。如果你不會太說。用手去指，也是一個方法。

I'll recognize that laughter as resolving embarrassment instead of teasing..
I've been here for 3 years and love it, had I stayed back home I'd have had an 9-5 desk job programming. In Taiwan I'm also programming, but because of the low cost of living I only need to work 1-2 hours a day.

About the laughing experience, it reminds me about my first time in Germany.
I don’t speak German, not even a little bit then. When I was shopping in a supermarket, I’m not sure if the caned sausages are raw or cooked. So I asked a lady who looked nice. She didn’t look at me when I tried to ask her question. And she stopped me from explaining more by saying “ I don’t speak English.” And then she walked away immediately.
At that moment, I felt like a total idiot. I left the supermarket immediately without buying anything.
So I can understand how much it might hurt.
Well, but I still like Germany and my trip there. I was a couch surfer. Most people I met were cool and interesting, too.
I was pretty fluent in English when I came to US to go to graduate school. Guess what? I did not understand people ask me “ do you have the time?” I didn’t learn that in school in Taiwan.

Thank you so much for discovering the good sides of Taiwan, it's easy for us to forget or just get too used to it. Hope our government could put more efforts to let the world knows about Taiwan. I will definitely do my own job by being nice to every visitors as well.

@Robin Rastle the expression appeared in the 19th century in both the US and the UK...something to do with the whaling industry back then huge like the oil industry now. No evidence that this phrase was from Ireland or Irish.
Yes English, just means having a great time, like having a ball (best time ever). Grandparents pass these phrases on 😁.
Proxies... when you are in a new country or places outside your home town... and you said that people were laughing at you whilst you were struggling with the language or culture.... it’s not the case in Taiwan, people think you are cute and it’s lovely to see the foreigner’s efforts and gestures in trying things as simple as that... however, do apologise if it makes new comers uneasiness in this perspective. Taiwan is no perfect and there are lots of things to learn to improve, for example, drivers should slow down on roads whilst seeing pedestrians approaching... 大家都加油！

早餐店的人肯定是用有趣的笑容化解尷尬或是覺得有趣聽不懂，用笑容表示友善，沒想到會被誤解成嘲笑😢😢😢台灣人從來不嘲笑人的。當然有些例外啦，一般人不會無聊這麼做。

I considered moving abroad for a lot of the reasons you described. I was set up to teach in Qingdao starting a few months ago, but I dropped the opportunity to go to graduate school and teach high school English domestically instead.
I think I was primarily worried about adjusting--I really value a sense of comfort and competence in the place I live, and I know I wouldn't have that for some time if I chose to move.
I'm still open to it, but I'll probably want to work at a university if I do.

with a graduate degree, you can easily work at a university. I've heard that's a great gig in Taiwan. In China, it's not. In China, the lowest paying jobs are at universities. I spent 3 years teaching in China, and I don't regret it, but Taiwan would've been more fun.
I watch all of you UA-camrs' programs and I really think everyone of you is so brave and talented, it is scary to moving to a foreign country and start a new life, it isn't always easy. Taiwanese in general is very open and accept foreigners as compared to Japan and Japanese society. Always enjoy watching your videos, thanks.

In case, if the aunties laugh at someone again (which I can't imagine, to be honest), beat them back in the Taiwanese way. That's what I learned, after a 7-11worker refused to take my order and called his work colleague, so that she could take my order (I ordered in Chinese, and my Coffee-Chinese is pretty strong), she bitched her work colleague, and later I complaint at my working place and they even called this shop to complain. That's how I got two "coupons" for free coffee, which I definitely going to order in Chinese again 😁
Frustration is part of learning when one moves abroad. When I look back on those inconvenient days studying abroad in US two decades ago, I feel happy to have such good sweet memories living in exotic country out of Taiwan.
when I came back to the US, after 3 years in China, I was shocked by how easily people here (especially my dad) get frustrated at little things. I guess dealing with daily frustrations in China taught me to chill out.

台灣人友善願和世界和平的人共處。
The money you earn here in Taiwan may be less than that you would have earned in your home country but the living cost is much cheaper here. As a result, your savings are not necessarily less here in Taiwan than in your home country. In addition, you may earn double teaching English with a bachelor degree or less than your local colleagues do in a cram school even they have a master degree. Still they have to do extra job from morning till night while you go to the cram school only when you have class and leave school any time if you don't have class. You can keep the day job and using the leisure time working as a UA-camr. The westerners are generally treated well here in Taiwan and become famous much easier compared to the local people. My experience has been very different in Taiwan.
Your'e like a total different person from when you lived in China. The videos are so clean now as Iv'e said before! We're all waiting for that Podcast your starting up, right Prozzie we're going to start up that Taiwanese Podcast right? We're going to get that going aren't we, so we can all support you through super chats/super chat questions right? Don't let us down! You can have 2 or 3 microphones where you talk and explain culture, have guest on or a co host and or you give Taiwanese people the chance to explain things and their perspectives. So imagine you, one of your friends, then a friend from Taiwan. Any which way you want it or whatever. Another thing you can do is if you have only you and another person on, you can use skype to interview a third person, like lets say you for example wanted Laowhy as a guest. You could hook him up on Skype and switch from him on full screen when he talks and back to the normal podcast cameras just like they do on other shows or in the news programs I watch online. I want to see this happen Prozzie, don't let us down! It creates more entertainment for us and it also allows us to give to you- support the channel, while in return we get something back. So it's not like we're just giving money away to you, we get to ask questions, support you, you answer them and it funds the channel. So you cover what subject and things you want for a while and then you "Open the lines" to super chats and maybe return to whatever you want afterwards. It's just a fun way to support the channel. Good video btw!
Trust me ! The people were not laughed at her. Somebody just used to keep smiling. By the way,most people do speak English especially in Taipei ( May not speak as well as native speaker)

我想台灣人大部分從不會嘲笑外國人，就像我去紐西蘭我英文很破他們也不會嘲笑我，只是有時候因該是你說出來表達的意思是另一種意思，造成聽起來很搞笑，像我英文講出來的意思太搞笑，我覺得因該是誤會了，因為我們知道外國人要學中文本來就很難，因為是另一種語系的語言，加上繁體字比簡體字難，像我以前還小時候聽到我以前女友紐西蘭人講中文，真的覺得很有趣，感覺很可愛，他常說老豬，但我知道他想表示老師，所以聽起來有趣並沒嘲笑意思。
真的，要跟那位外國朋友解釋一下⋯⋯應該就是因為好玩好笑而已絕對不是嘲笑！台灣各地也都有各自的說法跟口音，我也因為我的當地口音讓朋友覺得很好笑👍大家開心就好❤️

But teaching English as an expat is only like a short term thing, it's not a career that you can move up, isn't a stable career more fruitful even if it's 9-5???
Imo I don't think Taiwan is somewhere where you can settle down
As an ex English teacher in S Korea, I think it’s not the proper way to view these jobs. I know people who keep it as their lifetime job. It’s a real job taking care and teaching kids English. Just because most people do it as a gap year job, doesn’t mean it isn’t a real job. Ya know what I’m saying?
Its not a real job. You will notice that as soon as they have a kid they move back home to a proper job. You cant settle down in any of these jobs as they have not been created for that. Its more like escapism for many.
Depends on what you want out of life. You want to immediately settle into a career and climb the ladder? Teaching English in Asia probably isn't the way to go. However, like Prozzie said, if you want to live an interesting existence and learn some fantastically cool things about the world and yourself, moving to a place where you are very unfamiliar with your surroundings is a fitting option. Neither option is bad. It's all in what you want.
You'd be at home, probably making a lot more money, but bored and watching videos like this dreaming of another life abroad!..

小飛開頭說得很對，其實對各位有國際移動能力的人來說，離開不是問題，只是選擇留下。
各國一定都有窮人，大概也有保守的人，或又窮又保守的人，很難每個人都往外跑往外探索，生活中遇過兩位女孩，一位看起來很厲害，很會打扮，又漂亮，多年後才知道她是碩士科學家，那這麼優秀漂亮的女性，那時候應該要在國外進修或研習才對的，怎麼會在臺灣工作？真奇怪，她如果嫁給很優秀的外國人，給外國男性帶來好家庭與子嗣，我一點也不意外，也是應該的。
另一位女性從Facebook看是大學生，外語系的，所以我那時遇見她，只是她返鄉的年前打工，之後就回學校，而且現在好像在日本學日語了，那也很好，不論將來是在外地或外國嫁做人婦，都是那位男士，她先生的幸福與福份。
相比新聞上的兩個人，明明看起來都很優秀，也不是沒有錢，可是感覺就是聰明、富有而保守，最後都沒有出過國闖一闖？
影片裡Lukas說得也很好，早猜到了，他們，或各位外國人選擇在青年時代到世界各地闖蕩，付的代價就是比較難以結婚，晚婚或不婚、頂客族一類的。
這個影片很棒，因為等於一次收集了一大堆外國UA-camr的資料，好比《七龍珠》裡蓋洛博士收集強者資料那樣。
但手機摔壞太慘了。
以前的傳教士還被日本豐臣秀吉殺掉不少，現在的時代好很多了。可是人種還是有原罪吧，除非是超漂亮的男女生比較能無國界跨國界，好比好萊塢男女演員就是世界風行。我覺得這點問令姐，居住在日本的想法應該更準確，位於東亞的邊陲，美國最靠近，二戰後又佔領的地方，看一些動畫片（《刀劍神域第三季：愛麗絲裏世界偏》），我真的覺得日本人是刻意把英語說得很差，刻意把美語片假名化的，不然明明好好的英語發音不念，要改片假名再發音，很奇怪，日語也太多用詞沒有自己的版本，都是英語單字的片假名，這也很奇妙。換做中文好像沒有那麼多外來的音譯字，中國字夠用了。
這是我在這個頻道看的第二個影片，影片結尾會挑出一個熱門評論來答覆，這點很有趣，但也會改變影片調性就是了。

Those who haven't experienced it wouldn't understand how difficult it is to move to another country! It takes courage to go out of your comfort zones and establish a new life. As you said, I think the westerners in Taiwan are very worldly, free-spirited and open-minded people compared to their peers in the west. You are definitely not losers!

I don't think people were laughing at the lady who couldn't speak or understand chinese. They probably were "smiling at..." They likely couldn't speak English too so apart from smiling, there was nothing else they could do.
