@signofthebeast666 thanks so much for the kind words! I'll see about doing a close up video of the hands in the near future, but there is a great video of RT doing the song for television some years ago (I'm sure as a fan you've come across it) and there are some great shots of his hands on there. I saw him at Glastonbury last year and he threw all sorts of new little bits in too, mimicking the whistle melody from the recorded version and things. what a man! thanks again for watching
There are lots of very good technical versions by people with great voices covering this beautiful song but very few really make you feel that they have lived it . this one does , fantastic version .
This cover introduced me to Richard Thompson. Thank you so much for that simple thing: it's been incredibly significant for me! And however much I love the original now, your cover always gets me in a different but equally precious way. You're great.
I know I'm 8 years late to the party here but just to say thanks for putting this out there! Have been searching for someone who sings it this sensitively AND in the original key for ages. (Have always found it difficult connecting with it when it's transposed to another key). Really heartfelt playing man, +1 fan.
Incredible...of all of the covers I've heard of one of my favorite songs, this is superior by far. You not only capture RT's musical feel but also the haunting soul that underlies this song. Beautiful work!!
Aaahhhhh! I know Mad Dog - we auditioned him for a part in a feature film we just made. We ended up picking him pretty much on the basis that when we went to his house to give him a second audition and i said 'just sing anything you really love to sing' he suddenly started singing this and i got so excited i nearly wee'd myself on his sofa! He's a lovely man with a superlovely voice.. as is the little unsaid, my superlovely boyfriend!
It was 2011, my final year of university, when I heard your version of beeswing. It's a song that stuck in my mind for a very long time. Thank you for this version.
Tremendous interpretation of one of my all time favourite artist's classics.... I'm sure you'll have a fantastic career with the talent you possess... Good luck to you.
Hi John - said hello last night at the brilliant gig you and the rest of The Rough Island Band put on at Coal Aston. Friends were really impressed we had taken them to such a great evening of music. Listening to the band's latest album "On All Sides" at the moment - fabulous set of tunes. Thanks again, and all the best for the future, Terry
You, sir, are a marvelous musician. Your guitar work is fluid and subtle, and serves the meaning of the song as well as the sensitivity and heart you bring to the vocal. Your version is just excellent, and Richard Thompson would be proud of what you've done. Thank you for sharing.
This is amazing, three things i love about Richard Thompson are his lyrics, guitar playing, singing ability. You have nailed two of these and you couldn't nail the other as the lyrics were already written. Well done. Always great to see a fellow S&P player as well. Good luck champ
Oh she was a rare thing, fine as a bee's wing And I miss her more than ever words could say If I could just taste all of her wildness now If I could hold her in my arms today Well I wouldn't want her any other way Marvelous cover !! Thank you
Well done, indeed! I have been playing since 2008. I love fingerstyle. I am soooo sloowww. Your sound in incredible, and highly commendable. Hope you are writing songs.
A great version - one of the best. This song is also covered on UA-cam by a guy (Luke Murray) with a terrific voice, jamming in an Irish pub. Hope we hear some more of his singing. Just search for luke murray beeswing - I'm sure you won't regret it. Meanwhile I'll check out more of this guys music - thanks for releasing it.
Very few people can cover a song and make it better than the original. Buckley could do it. So can Vedder. Add yourself to the list. This is simply incredible.
I Commented on this over 10 years ago, and every time I come back, it sounds better
I keep coming back to this. For me this is the best, most authentic cover of the song on UA-cam. Really well done.
