      That's for when the Social Security trust fund runs out, it won't be a shock when the benefits drop by 22% instantly. They can drop it by 22% over the next 8 years instead. To do that, you just need to reduce benefits by 2.5% each year via any means necessary.

      @@JohnSmith_JS John I hate to burst your bubble, but the GOP doesn't care about the people on Social Security nor the people who are poor. A lot of them will support the GOP even though the real movers and shakers are not the GOP Congressmen but the Major Corporations, Billionaires and rich members of the Federalist Society and other Conservative and Right Wing groups who would take us back to the 19th Century where there was no social security, no public school system supported by taxpayers owning land. no child labor laws, no OSHA, or EPA, or Department of Education or Energy to make rules and administer education and energy use nation wide. no aid to children or dependent mothers or anyone else. We go back to company stores, company banks, and company housing.No labor unions. We will all be dependent on corporations for our work, education, food, and housing. If you can't work you don't eat, or you "go on relief" with just enough to feed you. It'd not fantasy, your great grandparents lived in that world.

    Knowing how they figure the COLA increase is one thing BUT.... where they get their figures is the important thing. I don't buy the numbers because numbers can be doctored. I know how much everything I buy has gone up and it's way more than 3.2%. Some things have gone up over 100%, some 50% and some 25% but nothing has gone down. My guess would be, on average, 30% would be the more accurate percent, across the board inflation.

    My Wife applied after She turned 67 this year and She has been paying from 1970 until last sept. 2022. She was denied and the letter that they mailed to her told her that if i do not apply by the end of this year i would be denied as well and I'm 63. No applies can be made is what the letter had in it. Found out that is been going on for the last 2 years now. We both have to work now until we die :(.

      If I remember properly, the year you turned 62 is the year they no longer apply an index multiplier to your salary. That year and any year after that a multiplier of 1.0 is used.
      So, just use your salary portion you paid social security on as is for '21, '22 and '23
      The social security web site should have all the multipliers for 2021 on down to calculate your AIME, since that's the year you turned 62.
      I'm 63 and retired in July. My calculations were within $1 of what I get from SSA using those tables.
      Its a good process to go through to make sure your SSA payment is correct

    Every bit helps us old people, but it is not keeping up with real living expenses. What needs to be done is anyone on SSA and over 65 needs to stop paying for property taxes for schools, the crazy water, electrical and gas bills. Then there is the cost of food, and gas to get around. It is not safe anymore for old people to ride public buses and etc. We all are paying huge amounts of money for the illegals that get free housing, education, food and medical. Need to send all these people back and take care of the old people first who worked their whole life and paid for our SS. If anyone should be getting free food, medical and etc is the old who can't work anymore, but worked their whole life. Need to keep SS only for people who worked and paid for it, not everyone that is now getting it. There should be no tax on any SS dollars, I paid taxes on that money already like in a ROTH. Government needs to fix this and repeal the reduction of SS in 2032. The government owns us as we funding our retirement. The people getting a government or school retirement, needs to just get SS. You are funding the government and school retirement with your tax dollars. Remember that when you do your taxes, you are paying for the way above SS retirement for these people. Just not right.

    • @bikeny
      @bikeny Рік тому +2

      If you want to be covered by Feb 1, 2024 for your Medicare insurance, you'll need to have the application done by then. So, 3 months before feb 1, so Nov 1, 2023 would be a good time to discuss the application with your agent. You have 3 months before you turn 65, the month you turn 65, and then 3 months afterwards. This ensures you don't pay any penalty for applying late. It does take some time, so don't wait until the last minute.
      If you meant Social Security, you can apply any time you want, since you are already over 62.
