OK, holy cow. I've been using InDesign for 14 years... the WRONG WAY. I "didn't have time" to learn more and, very obviously, did NOT know what I didn't know! I could have saved hundreds of hours if I'd have had you in 2010! My goodness, that demo was the most succinct I've ever seen. You showed EXACTLY how to do it... "it" being a bunch of different things. You taught me more tricks and covered more ground in 3 minutes than most videos do in 45 minutes... and AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT! A+ Thank you thank you thank you thank you!
So glad you enjoyed it! Check out all our mostly short form videos here and our thousands of how-to articles at CreativePro.com. We’ve been around many years and have lots of awesome tidbits like this!
That is the power of InDesign! It should be named InControl because it gives us so much control over content! Once, I managed to layout the whole book with the next style option.
Learning object styles and combining them with paragraph styles, applying next styles and then having an option to position the text frame anywhere on the page with a keyword shortcut is a big time saver. I think there’s a bit of a misconception that the name object styles indicates that it can only be used for creating shapes, but they are far more powerful than that.
I can see how the name is a little misleading. Knowing that a text frame is just an object like a circle or squiggle helps. Object styles deal with the frame itself (with the exception of telling it which para style to start with). That’s probably why that option is off by default since it’s not an object-level characteristic. -EG
This is awesome. Is it possible to get a copy of this document to closer see how all these elements function together? It went a little fast and it would be nice to dissect this if doable. Love all of this :)

The “Apply Next Style” magic saved me a lot of time in multiple occasions…

We can see if Laurie can make that available. -EG
