Vista is Spanish for "view". So, with all those windows, you always had a great view while you were cruising maybe? We had a 72 Plymouth station wagon when I was growing up. What a dog of a car. Always was breaking down. Dad was always working on it. My mom once asked our mechanic if he minded that my dad worked on the car. He said no because it meant he would be getting it soon to work on. True story.

My dad had a delta 88 with a 455 and a two barrel carburetor. We took it to Spain as he was in the Air Force and it ran on regular gas. Definitely a rocket ship. Dad raced all the Porsches and other European sports cars even when pulling a camping trailer. Great to see this video brings back super memories
I worked the parts counter of an Olds and IH Dealership in the 70s. These were pretty classy Wagons in the day. I knew of a couple of guys that had to give up their cool Muscle Cars when they had a few kids and this was a fairly cool looking option for them. I think you could order them with a 455 in 72 but most had 350s.
My dads budyy had a 455 wagon, made many road trips from LA to the sierras to go backpacking in it. HS kids would be embarrassed to be driving one of these....but made for great party/beach mobiles...pile in partys on.
Oldsmobile named those Vista Cruisers because of the roof windows. I had a ‘79 Custom Cruiser when I was broke in grad school. It had one of those 261 diesels that were based on the gasoline engines. They were so bad that Oldsmobile replaced mine with the V-6 at over 100K miles at no charge. I decided I’d keep driving it until it died even though my wife wouldn’t ride in it. I had 400K on it when it was stolen, parked between my wife’s Mustang and our neighbor’s Corvette. Three weeks later I got it back. I’d had enough and gave it to an elderly couple that needed a car. Sometimes I miss it. Great video. You didn’t have a lot to work with there.
Great episode! The issue I personally had with "uni-points" was always quality of manufacturing. They worked ok when they worked. Sadly, if they were bad out of the box you couldn't return them.. Soooo better to go with individual parts - odds are good they won't all be bad.
Was watching this and was literally shouting come on baby you can’t do it you know you want to you you’re so close. Glad to see someone is taking her home and is going to continue on the work you started. My wife heard you say “ alright for the girls we go out with” and said “what’s that all about?” So had to explain the line to her, and then she said “ he sure likes his sandwiches, he seems to talk about having one all the time” so I had to let her know you were talking about a beer, another great video and both Duff and Mojo played a great part in this video, they both played their parts for comical relief, Duff jumping in the Pontiac and having a good sniff, and Mojo providing his wisdom on those points in his own special Mojo way.
Damn, Mojo may not be keen on being on camera, but every time he is, his quips always get me rolling 🤣 "Why don't you like unit points..?" "Because they're miserable" 🤣🤣
I Love the Olds Vista Cruiser! It was the Cutlass Wagon! I think those cars are super cool. If you remember in Family Vacation, One of these was traded in for the BIG UGLY Family Truckster wagon. When they tried to back out they Crushed the Vista Cruiser. That was a criminal act in my book. Love the windows in the roof! With the woodgrain faded completely white and the top faded to Tennessee Orange, it gives it a two tone color scheme that I could really dig! Yes that is a Step in the Bumper for little kids to get into the sideways or rear facing seats in the very back.
The Vista Cruiser was the Cutlass-body station wagon, the Custom Cruiser was the Delta 88-body station wagon. Custom Cruisers had all the electric options with a vanishing tailgate that retracted into the body.
A 68' 455 is a very good motor to build. Torque galore. Look at the heads and see which ones they are. Could be any number of heads...C,D,F,J. Some are quite valuable. Typically J heads are referred to as Junk though. The letter is on left hand lower corner of head.
At the shop I used to work at, we loved it when AC/Delco came out with the UniSet points, because it saved us a few minutes on tune-ups, not having to fiddle with installing a separate condenser. Then came HEI….high tech!

Weird pets. I had a raccoon and a red Squirrel before. The Squirrel would be totally cool while petting her until she had enough then she'd bite. Their teeth are like razors. Current weird pet is a brown anole that hitch hiked from Florida with my inlaws as an egg in her plant. It's my daughter's pet. I have more money invested into that free pay than I care to think about! Cool old wagon. Thanks for the fun!
Duff Dog in the thumbnail matches the colors of the Vista Cruiser! Good thing he hopped up on the fender to boost morale as you plugged away through each problem/solution to get the job done. Thanks Mortske-Love the Duff!
Good deal ! was going to comment about the counter clock wise rotor thing but seems like you caught it in the stick of time.. this time. Gotta love the GM banner when it comes to ye Oldsmo-Bubble.. Driving in the good ol U.S.A in my GM product Today.

I never had that training but watching you go thru it helps me to know what to look for when i start working on my old 91 truck. Have a great Thanksgiving guy.
That was the family car when I started driving. Roasting those tires with a wagon and the seemingly endless juice those 455's put out was amazing. I remember not want to pit my pedal to the floor. Good video on a great car.
A mechanical tip from a 72 year old mechanic. To find top dead center number one cylinder on any V8 engine. All you have to watch is the fifth cylinder in the firing order and when the intake valve begins to open your at TDC on number one. Watch 65721843 intake opening Adjust 18436572 both valves 1:01:50 BTW, GM Unitised points are good. Used them for years. I'd make the switch to electronic ignition with a Pertronix module 😅😅😅
Had a wild turkey that made his home on our back porch and would roost outside the back door. We named him Peeping Tom, because anytime you look out the back door he would be there staring at you.

My uncle bought a brand new 68 Vista Cruiser... In its day , those were the cat's meow... My dad & uncle went to the "mega" dealer with me & a cuz in tow ... I was 5 yrs old . My dad bought an Impala wagon & my uncle bought the Buick V. C. wagon... Years later I took the 327 out of the Impala , rebuilt it & dropped it in a Camaro . (I think) Might've put it in my 73 Chevelle ... But , the Buick was loaded with a.c. , power windows, seats , ect & my dads Impala had an a.m. radio . Thats it . My dad , who is 85 now , never bough a car with a.c. til I was a senior in H.S. Cheapest penny pinchin skin flint in the tri state area still to this day..lol.
So I have been binge watching your channel all week. I tend to fast forward through the parts where you explain what your doing because I'm dumb and don't understand it. That said, I love how you are old school. You get 'em in, get 'em going, and move on to the next. It's not a whole huge process of practically rebuilding everything before you even try to start them. I also love how you criticize those who criticize you, but in a FUNNY way. Keep up the great work.
Think the rust dust blowing out of the water pump was hilarious. Red Foreman would beat the kids for that. Also, grease your shaft before you beat it. It isn't snowy enough for that yet. Ha

Very Nice, my sisters friend had a "cruiser" in the late 70's , man we get 10 or sometimes more and we go to the drivein good times. Thanks for the vid allways enjoy the education .
That door looks like an awesome merch design
What a beast from the east. I like the Olds. Super cool 😎
The way the motor sounded when you first turned it over, you could find a pot to beat on and make a song beat lol
Thanks Mortske!
Longroof! Very cool. Vista Cruisers are awesome!
That wall hanger is super cool! Love it when the bigger channels give the shoutouts to the smaller channels (startup channels).
a great old Vista boozer not many left that clean , could make a great sleeper. Great channel !!!
More Mortske Monday Magic! Just the greatest 😊❤️
Mortske is that man that Mojo needs to thrive
I love DD speed shop. Those two are great. They dubbed one of your video's for their Merch. It was Hilarious. As for hacking, we have all been there.
That’s cool that door very nice guy😊
Mortske with his feature films 2+ hours, 66k views inside 15 hrs....fella has the midas touch!
Duff Dog in the thumbnail matches the colors of the Vista Cruiser!
Good thing he hopped up on the fender to boost morale as you plugged away through each problem/solution to get the job done.
Thanks Mortske-Love the Duff!
Our pleasure
I'll chip in. Mojo needs a new pair. Insulated jeans preferably, they're awesome.
Much appreciated Russell!
Mortske Your DOOR is AWESOME!!!!!!! That was some work to do!!!!!!!! Verrrrrrryyyyyy Nicccccccccceeeeeahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
Good deal ! was going to comment about the counter clock wise rotor thing but seems like you caught it in the stick of time.. this time. Gotta love the GM banner when it comes to ye Oldsmo-Bubble.. Vista Cruiser's.. are super vista seeing machines..used to ride facing backwards in my youth and throw up on those behind us. 3rd row rear facing seating is a thing of the past.. olden days. another by gone era. Driving in the good ol U.S.A in my GM product Today.
Mortske We have 3 cats, Duff by your side on the fender was helping you out he needed a bone for that guy. Enjoy your working thur the problems of getting a motor to fire off. I never had that training but watching you go thru it helps me to know what to look for when i start working on my old 91 truck. Have a great Thanksgiving guy.
Same to you!
Good morning Mortske I love those wagons.
That was the family car when I started driving. Roasting those tires with a wagon and the seemingly endless juice those 455's put out was amazing. I remember not want to pit my pedal to the floor. Good video on a great car.
Mortske, you went above and beyond for content for us. I tip my hat to you!
Thanks
I appreciate that!
Thanks for the video Mr. Mortske. Always look forward to them.
A mechanical tip from a 72 year old mechanic. To find top dead center number one cylinder on any V8 engine.
All you have to watch is the fifth cylinder in the firing order and when the intake valve begins to open your at TDC on number one.
Watch 65721843 intake opening
Adjust 18436572 both valves
1:01:50
BTW, GM Unitised points are good. Used them for years.
I'd make the switch to electronic ignition with a Pertronix module 😅😅😅
Had a wild turkey that made his home on our back porch and would roost outside the back door. We named him Peeping Tom, because anytime you look out the back door he would be there staring at you.
Lol i love how you and dd speed shop talk smack hallarious love both of your content Awsome stuff
The Mortske crew can find one in the room of goodies.
That's the same car I took the body off and put my 57 Buick special on
What a ripper ❤
Love your videos

God blessyou keep the good work 😊😊
My uncle bought a brand new 68 Vista Cruiser...
(I think)
Might've put it in my 73 Chevelle ...

I nominate Chen for the best Editor, at the 2024 Mortski Awards😊
So I have been binge watching your channel all week. I tend to fast forward through the parts where you explain what your doing because I'm dumb and don't understand it. That said, I love how you are old school. You get 'em in, get 'em going, and move on to the next. It's not a whole huge process of practically rebuilding everything before you even try to start them. I also love how you criticize those who criticize you, but in a FUNNY way. Keep up the great work.
Oh yeah we have eight guinea pigs
Thanks for watching!
Me and my wife first time in my 1970 vista cruiser rocket at a battle of the bands oh yeah good times 1980. 🍺🍺🍺👍🤣👌💯🇺🇸
The best was Mo Jo giggling when Duff jumped in and you yell at him to get out!
Nice Vista Cruiser. I have a 65 Buick Sport Wagon with similar roof glass.
Mighty auto parts. What a blast from the past!!
455, 400 turbo , 3.70 rear gears
22 gallons of fuel & 8 to 10.5 miles per gallon.
Now a 7.0 liter lsa engine would pull that along nice.
Be safe team.
Think the rust dust blowing out of the water pump was hilarious. Red Foreman would beat the kids for that.
Also, grease your shaft before you beat it. It isn't snowy enough for that yet. Ha
I love that Vista Cruiser Awesome Cars.
Just noticed at 14:40 mark can see the freeze/coolant plug not sitting properly. Great vids always watch. Vista Cruisers are cool just picked our first one couple years ago ,a 1965.
Sleeper Dud loves those wagons.
