    I got the basics but how about a few turn for leaders and followers with this same count and tape on the floor. This is very helpful for some of is. I keep falling back on one when I do different combos my body just wants to hit those accents and not the conga beat.

    • @wietskewelten
      @wietskewelten  Рік тому

      That's a great idea, thanks! I'll see if I can make that happen 🙌
      For a lead dancing partnerwork on2 vs on1 your steps, if you'd step in place, stay the same, ie 'left right left, right left right'. So for some leaders it helps to not think about the actual steps too much but to think 'go back' when you're coming out of a combo. (Instead of forward on 1).

    Is this what's called "salsa on2 NY style"?
    I learned salsa basic steps today but it was quite hard to find the same looking steps on UA-cam.
    I'm curious since I found the steps I learned and steps you're showing look very similar. 🙂

    • @wietskewelten
      @wietskewelten  Рік тому +2

      Hi! Thanks for your comment. This is indeed salsa NY On2 😃 I think most salsa online are for LA On1 style so if you learned basic On2 today you're right that most videos will not show the same steps. Did you take a class (online/ in person) today? How did you like it?!

      Thank you for your comment.
      It was in person class. Interesting indeed as the dance seems to be based on "steps"🦶
      What would you recommend learning first, salsa or bachata for a complete beginner?

    • @wietskewelten
      @wietskewelten  Рік тому +2

      @@Xankek that's true! My theory: Most dance schools teach on1 to beginners, at some point dancers want to widen their skills and start to learn on2 as well. At this point they've been dancing for a while so it's often advanced dancers. (Social) dance videos are also mostly advanced dancers. So I can imagine this might be correlated.

  • @MathTutorVideos

    Hmm.... why are your first step and second set, the same distance? I've always been taught its "half, full, traveling to half past, full, traveling to half past, full step" rinse repeat etc. Instead you seem to be doing full step, full step, full step, full-step, full-step, full-step, full-step.
    In theory, step 1 I think ought to be the middle of your foot is "on the line" and step 2 is like on the next-line (or a full foot length forward from the previous step).
    Additionally, pressing hard into the floor, then rolling your feet from the outside to the inside then back and down onto the floor.

    • @wietskewelten
      @wietskewelten  6 місяців тому

      They aren't, you're right that the steps on count 1 and 5 are a bit smaller. The 'mantra' often used is 'short, long, in place - short, long, in place.
      But as you study other dancers, the difference is mostly miniscule. It is mainly said that way to ensure you make those steps on 1 and 5 small, as people are often inclined to make those two steps too big.
      Your second comment I don't understand. You should never roll your foot from the outside in. You should always land the foot on the inside of the foot (below the big toe) or flat (weight spread evenly on the ball of the foot).
      Unless you mean rolling of the foot from the ball to the heel. That is indeed correct. But when you are going for a technique that is more rooted in afro, you will place your foot flatter on the floor to begin with (the ball-heel action will be much less pronounced).

    • @AlwaysKoolonYou
      @AlwaysKoolonYou 5 місяців тому +1

      Good tutorial for beginners! I think the spacing of the boxes confused me for a min because it gives the impression that you’re traveling a lot in your movements than you would if you were actually dancing, but like you said when watching other dancers that extra step in between is minuscule.

    • @wietskewelten
      @wietskewelten  4 місяці тому

      @AlwaysKoolonYou the steps on 1 and 5 can be miniscule, but it's also not wrong to make them about a foot long or so.
      It all depends on preference, adjusting to your partner (when not dancing solo), the music, space on the dance floor and just your mood 😁

    • @wietskewelten
