If any people from Survivor UK production are actually watching. I'm 100% truthful when I say this...I genuinely believe you should offer Bandit a behind the scenes job on the show. I don't know if the job should involve helping with the casting, helping with the challenges or advertising but this has been one of best described reviews I have seen. I also think he is probably one of the biggest fans of Survivor in the UK.
From what I've heard I think getting the advertising out there was a massive issue. I don't think many people were aware about the Survivor UK application form.
Wasn't aware at all!!! It was a dream to apply ever since the original UK shows but just had to get used to watching US series and hoping one day it would return. Very excited for another round of this (with improvements)
The problem was there was so much set up to a Chris win and now of course we have people using this as an argument that "the audience should vote instead!!" (Classic UK reality TV show arguments)
The dumbest scene on this season is when Matthew left the box with idol unlocked 😂 and Nathan got it instead… what a shame! And still, Matthew won the season 🤣
I loved this cast honestly - I looked forward to the episodes every week to see what kind of messy gameplay there would be. It was refreshing to have a lack of gamebots that just made it feel different and also I feel like the editing (Joel aside) was good!
Love your content and your accent makes it even more fun to listen to! 😉 Your assessment is exactly what I thought, fun and quirky. Different than other franchises but still a season of Survivor worth watching IMO! I’d watch Season 2!
Weirdly enough as much as Hannah was purple'd most of the season you could get a vibe just from what we'd seen of her that she would have been a favourite in terms of jury management had she made it to final 3.
The premerge was slow and boring because most players weren't making moves. However, that all changed once the merge arrived. There were drama, good challenges like the authon, epic blindsides - I was cheering when Tinuke was voted out. I would give 3/10 for pre merge, and 8/10 for merge. I was thrilled that Christopher made it to the finale despite having a massive target on his back for the entire merge.
@@BanditSurvivorContent There are pros and cons in casting non Survivor fans. They can give us compelling dynamics with savvy players, but at the same time, you’d find them frustrating when they don’t make moves when they should’ve. That was why I was ecstatic when the Doug and Tinuke blindsides happened. Their eliminations transformed the rest of the game, and it made me looked forward for upcoming episodes.
Survivor UK 2023 was in my opinion a great start (after a 20 year absence). I enjoyed every episode and can't wait for the next season. It has a character of its own, not quite Survivor USA and not really Survivor Australia either, or South Africa for that matter - it falls somewhere in the middle but stands firmly on its own. The only problem is the jury clearly didn't understand what the game demand from participants, that is to say how the game should be played and consequently the true winner didn't win.
The series started off boring but got better and better as it progressed. I wish the relationships had been highlighted more in the beginning. Hannah and Pegleg's alliance was mentioned towards the end as being very strong, but early episodes didn't show that. The edit also didn't explain why Laurence was on the outs at Caleton.
Hannah and Pegleg was a big missed relationship as well as Laurence and Tinuke seemingly having a very close relationship to the point he didn't vote her and even told her the plan to eliminate her. But that relationship wasn't also fully explained.
I really hope Joel does better hosting I know him from masked singer uk and he’s a great host but survivor may be out of his element but maybe given some time people will enjoy him more as they see more seasons of survivor uk

I just want to take a second to point out, Us Survivor has Jeff Probst, Aus Survivor has Johnathon, and Uk Survivor has Joel.
This seasons was somewhat strong for UK. It gives me hopes that there’ll be renewed season. I like watching your video on it and I hope to see other UA-camrs like MeranianReview post his review on it.
I know Gumball has done his review, I'm not sure if TMR will get around to it since I know he said he is busy and there currently are lots of other shows he's prioritising.
Loved this season but thought Chris played by far the best game. Also called Matty out as the winner early pre merge based on the edit. Also Lee lied about Christopher in the final tribal and i would love to have seen that called out.
It really felt like we were getting set up to Lee being overruled by Christopher at FTC because there was so much set up to Lee pioneering the all male group only for it to...not come true?
What the fuck was up with Lee seriously? he was one of my favourite characters, but then at the end he was so bitter and twisted that he called Chris a liar for basically telling the truth and properly called him out on it ruining his game. Also, why the fuck was Chris so weak in winners pitch? He didn't own up to any game playing, he didn't own up to manipulating matt, He didn't tell the players that he was the absolute star of the show which OBVIOUSLY he was. I bet when the players watch the edit back they will all want to change their votes. Matty won because he stabbed his friends in the back, Chris should have won because he made alliances throughout and survived under difficult circumstances. he was literally the only one who knew what he was doing, and yet they voted Matty as the winner because he came across as stupid and innocent. What a palaver.
I felt like the main things i disliked was the editing of like modern pop music being placed among the episodes with the strange like almost cooking show updates from Joel as he tries to catch us up on the game like we don't know anything about what is going on....just felt really cringe. As for Joel, he needs some serious serious help in the hosting as I felt like while he talks clearly and has great charm...there really wasn't much more than asking questions of the cast outright or plainly stating what was happening at the time....he never made any inferences to bounce off the players and make for better dialogue and contribution in the tribals. This made the tribals very one dimensional and the narrative is essentially dictated by the heat of Chris and other good players.
The cast was fine and there were definitely likable characters but there was something missing for me the entire season: I didn’t feel the stakes were as high with 100.000 pounds. I also didn’t think the editors really made it suspenseful. The fact they stopped the music during tribal so often to make it more suspenseful actually did the opposite: it took all the suspense out. I wish they could have used the US music. Much much better. Let’s hope for a better second season
I think with the BBC the maximum can only be 100,000 pounds as a maximum prize. Potentially seeing the benefits of running Survivor UK another channel may pick it up and increase the prize pool. I hope they also take lessons from the other Survivors and use more suspenseful/intense tribal music
I enjoyed this - thanks! I was also a big Ren fan. I've never seen a Survivor series before but I will definitely cross my fingers for a second UK series. There were parts that irritated me, like the people who double-crossed everyone and then did a show of being 'hurt' when they were backstabbed themselves. But i sensed that was partially producers telling them to stoke up the drama? Not sure. Oh and I didn't like the mean-spirited attitude to people like Shai, who didn't quite fit in. Seemed a bit childish and intolerant of neurodiversity, but that's the world I guess.
Only problem with run length is the BBC doesn't have ads so when making a show they don't need to factor in ad break while survivor USA for a hour long time slot needs to factor in 5 ad break yes 5
Survivor US comes to about 70 minutes when you take breaks out of a 90 minute episode and it's 43 minutes when you take the breaks out of a 60 minute episode.
There's lots of parallels you can draw between UK's versions of The Traitors and Survivor vs their US counterparts. US is all about big moves, drama, and strategy; UK doesn't take itself seriously at all with more focus on humour. I nearly pissed myself laughing when the winning team in Episode 1 got a lighter instead of a flint.
I think the main problem with the UK is we're less focused on serious shows and more so comedy/lighthearted shows like taskmaster, would i lie to you, bake off (which is less intense than things like hell's kitchen) ect. the issue is Survivor is literally contestants starving on an island, having to vote each other out and missing their family like lord of the flies it's not something that can be super goofy.
the childish bitter jury were never going to give the win to the real winner the talented strategic minded (biracial man) CHRIS.....the british are subtle in their bias towards biracials who are cleverer than them..........the music in uk survivor was awful instead of catchy tense exciting music like australian and usa survivor the uk version was full of silly generic pop music
I don't really see how people think Chris was a better player than Matty, Matty was by far the best player of the season imo, Chris made mistakes to put himself on the bottom, while Matty was actively involved in moves to consistently benefit his position, he either ran the game or was a second in command the entire game.
@@blaze4907 chris ran the game and everyone iv spoken to says the same......matt followed and could not even do a simple thing like get the idol amongst other things lol
On the gender boot order disparity I’m surprised you didn’t mentioned that it took a tribe being whittled down to five men for the second man to be voted out of that season in 12th place. Other than that this was a pretty comprehensive review.
Matty was better suited to the more tame UK audience and bitter sore loser jury but it's a shame as Chris' gameplay whilst a bit flawed was great considering the amount of heat that was on him at all times. Still if Survivor in general had more popularity/knowledge you wouldn't end up with a cast that acts mad at players playing poker when they thought it was go fish and that deception is allowed.
The pop music was atrocious but i enjoyed it otherwise. I think if Christopher was playing with a more game savvy cast he would’ve won at the end and had more people willing to play with him post merge
Who was from Wales? And who was the third Scottish representation other than Doug and Rach I’m asking this because I did not have access to this season I had exit press
I think he was (understandably) nervous and that was his mechanism to appear more serious and confident. The problem is, as i stated in my video, Joel came off as super cheery so it made his more serious scenes come off as more of a juxtaposition to his character.

From what I've heard I think getting the advertising out there was a massive issue. I don't think many people were aware about the Survivor UK application form.

I think that's a very fair assessment! I think the issue with mostly non-survivor fan casts is we get quite slow pre-swaps and that showed here.
