There are pedal demos and then there are Rabea pedal demos! Nobody else goes to these lengths to truly integrate the pedal into the context of a rig/song and this was truly inspiring and ingenious. So much so I'm very tempted to buy one myself just to emulate those sounds you created and even use them in my bands songs. You shed light on a way to use this pedal I hadn't even thought of. I had the SY-1 briefly but you're right that it was dumb not to be able to remotely switch between presets. I also agree that 90% of the sounds on this thing sound dates, cheesy and pretty much unusable and I wish Boss had spent more time creating more modern synth tones. But you managed to create some epic sounds regardless.
THIS is why i always watch Bea for choosing gear ~ mate you use it precisely with the style and spirit that it should be, not with guys who try to cram power chords and blues licks to any pedal...thank you so much Bea 🤗
Your playing is just so inspiring and beautiful . Really it's been years since i follow your differents projects and i'm never bored or dissapointed. My wish is that you will be able to do some Workshop or guitar camp all around Europe to spread your awesome vibes. Cheers Men !
I have the SY-1 on my pedalboard with a similar signalpath. My guitar goes into the input of the SY-1. All pre preamp effects and the preamp stage of my amp are in the FX-Loop of the SY-1 and from the output of the SY-1 I send the signal to delay and reverb into the power amp.
Synth pedals are so consistently underrated, glad to see you embrace them so fully and use them so tastefully. Also re: your wish for low-end independence in your synth patches, you could use a programmable EQ right after the synth sound to manually attenuate everything about a certain frequency band. It's a crude solution, but something that might work, and if it's a MIDI-capable EQ, you could sync it to remove different things for different patches.
Bea these pedal reviews are so sick from a creative and educational standpoint lately! You just make me want to pick up my guitar, play along and be better every-time... so inspiring to watch bro 🤘🔥
Rabea, you really should try and get into some movie soundtracks. Every time I hear your ambient stuff I csn imagine it in the background of a movie. You'd be great at it.
See that Jump riff is why I still love GK-Pickup synth stuff, you can hold the low note and still play the riff with a polyphonic synth sound. I would love an SY pedal for my board though, way less stressful for gigs.
This is EXACTLY the kind of thing we're doing in our music right now! Thank you so much for the demo and for showing me that it is possible with this pedal. I would like to know if you can go through a chord progression with the hold/drone feature. Anybody who has the pedal is welcome to answer. Thanks!
This is a pedal that grows on you quick! You just keep discovering new ways of using it! it’s like having some kind of robot band mate? that plays along with you, if that makes any sense! It’s great fun and worth getting
I am also curious about what Andrew’s Question. Could someone be so kind to chime in on this question? Thanks: Love your demos bro! I have a question. I use a 10 loop Midi looper (RJM PBC). If I plugged my guitar into the input of the SY, then had the send go to the input of my looper, run all my loops like I normally would, then have the output of the looper go back to the return, would I be able to maintain my normal guitar signal when the SY is bypassed? and then have everything run parallel when the SY is engaged? Thanks! Really enjoy all you do Rebea

I am watching this currently wearing my own “French lizard tail” or Tiger Camouflage pants. Unfortunately I cannot say I am also playing through the same array of gear and instruments that you have, but at least there’s the similar pants that sound quite good with any parameter setting. Great video.
Hi Rabea - great demo. I have a question about the effects loop.... Do you still hear the effects loop when the synth is off? E.g if I have a chorus pedal in the loop do I hear the chorussed guitar when the synth is switched off. Then when I switch the synth on do I (depending on D-Level/E-Level mix) hear chorussed guitar and chorussed synth? Or can I set it go get chorussed guitar and "dry" synth? Cheers Jon
Can anyone tell me how to change pre-sets with the pedals please? I cant find any info on it including in the manual! Obviously the on/off switch it self explanatory but from what I can see, the CTRL switch just seems to cycle through the pre-sets upwards. how do you cycle down from pre-set 2 to pre-set 1 for example?
Great Gods man your playing is just freaking amazing and inspiring. Been eyeballing this pedal since it was announced. I get along alright on the keys but when I want to stay in the zone on my guitar, the last thing I want to do is fart around with Analog Lab for hours. I can see this fitting into my post-rock/shoegaze stuff quite easily.
Bought one and the Exp Pedal after this review. Was however interested in the big brother SY100 and will grab one if i learn and use the SY200 enough. One of my favourite videos for sure
Another brilliant demo video Rabea, here’s the 1 thing I don’t like about this pedal. The voices!!! I have a gr55 with the gk pickup, I have an eventide h9max. Amidst all that I have a plethora of other pedals in my chain plus I run various korg, Casio and Roland synths via the midi from the gr55 and h9. I am synth’d out to the max yet I can hear the sy200 voices calling me. Put me in your signal chain. Put me behind, in front, in series, parallel. Just put me in your signal chain. Put me behind…..it goes on….in a loop. Godamit man, just as well I’m doing overtime at work 😉
One thing worth mentioning is that there is a switch in the back for bass or guitar, and that will effect the way the unit reacts. Try using the "bass" setting (in the back) when plugging in a guitar when using the "Bass TYPE" on the front of the unit and check out the way it reacts to your playing when switching from "bass" to "guitar" on the switch in the back!!...you will be suprised!!...by using the "bass" setting in the back, the "bass type" will effect less the higher strings, so it helps to separate the low strings from the high strings in certain situations!!...if you want the "bass type" to affect the higher strings of the guitar, then use the "guitar" setting in the back!!...my two cents!!...if that makes sense to you!!...
In a live context, would you run the setup the same? Or, split the signal and send the synth direct to the PA or a dedicated keyboard amp? I f’ing a lot (most all) guitar amps do not do well with the synth signal due to the wide ranging tones and extreme high and low note capability that the synth can put out.
Personally I'd split it and send it to the PA, gives the sound guy control over the level but it will sound better than coming through a guitar amp. However it all depends on the sounds you want. If you like the sound coming through the amp then run it through the amp, if you don't then run it through the PA. Hope this helps
This versus the Meris Enzo? Also - hows the tracking? I always struggled to play riffs with these things - seem to be more of a hold chords and enjoy thing.
Great demo Rabea. Congrats! One question: On the SY1, the Lead synths don't really work above about high E (12th fret, high E string) Notes above that just go dead. Can you play above the high E with the SY200 ? Thanks! Best - Andy
if they can do guitar to midi without a special pickup system, why do they need the special pickup for the gm-800? this would be so convenient if it could connect to computer for guitar to polyphonic midi vst's
Thanks I’m about to pick up this unit but I’m hoping I don’t regret it because the Sy-300 seems much better than this unit, but if the 200 can trigger other hardware and software synths with little to no latency,. I will be fine with the 200. Can you confirm this feature for me with little latency? Or should I wait and save for the Sy-300s extra sound design power? And what ac adapter should I get for the Sy-200? Thanks so much for your help man.
How do you set up expression and dual Foot Switch pedals to the SY 200 ? I bought the EV-1-WL expression pedal and the FS-7 Dual Foot Switch, and the expression pedal doesn't work with any cord at all, and only the A button works with the dual switch, so.... That stinks...lol I hooked up the expression pedal with MIDI or TRS or regular guitar cord in every possible way I could think of. Nothing at all... Is it possible to add an expression pedal ? ...and if so, a foot switch at the same time as expression ? Is it possible to even do expression pedal at all though ? I haven't seen anything on UA-cam. If you know a way, can you make a video on it ? Seems pretty bizzare that you can only go up in number too... Why ??? LOL Makes this pedal almost as unusable as just having the SY1 as far as live gigging... If you accidentally hit it twice, then you have to bend down and fix it while playing...lol That's just crazy. That is if you know your set list and have the presets lined up. But if you want to go back and forth from effects, then it's pointless being that up is the only way it goes. I'm pretty blown away that they'd make such a rad pedal, but screw it up just as much...lol Great video though dude !!!! Thanks a bunch !!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🤙
Hi Rabea. Superb demo..many thanks... can you comment on the attack response... had a b9 pedal that was frustrating because there was a verrrrrrrry small (but noticeable) delay between the attack of the pick and the generated sound. Has boss solved that issue?
amazing demo question: I have a stereo rig/ integrating an FX loop I just got this pedal could you publish a wiring diagram ( perhaps utilizing an AB switch) where I can run the pedal independently or the guitar independently and then of course mixing the two together?
I wonder if the same kinda setup can be done with just Helix and SY200. Coz i am seriously considering adding this to my live rig and it can make my band sound huge. As we are just 4 people on stage.
Very cool Demo and of course playing! It sounds interesting! But there is only one output, is it right. No separate output for guitar and one saperate for synth?

Hi there!
I don’t need this, but you made me want it!
A good demo inspires me to play.. and you did!

Yeah its quiet; possibly the most useful demo ever done on it. What a Monster demo Mate. Bloody hell.
Just got one. There are so many sounds that you can get out of this pedal. Amazing!
Yeah you’re paraphrasing to meet your needs. He didn’t say that 90% of this thing sounds cheesy, he just said they were what he would personally use.
THIS is why i always watch Bea for choosing gear ~ mate you use it precisely with the style and spirit that it should be, not with guys who try to cram power chords and blues licks to any pedal...thank you so much Bea 🤗
Man. This sounds like a trip to space and back. Impressive and very very inspiring playing here.
Brands should pay top dollar for this. If not, please request top money. Your reviews are the best on the internet, Bea!
Your playing is just so inspiring and beautiful . Really it's been years since i follow your differents projects and i'm never bored or dissapointed. My wish is that you will be able to do some Workshop or guitar camp all around Europe to spread your awesome vibes. Cheers Men !
Hahah that Matt Bellamy call out got me, I remember hearing that for the first time and couldn’t un hear it 😂
Amazing demo as always!!
The Matt Belamy thing absolutely wrecked me! Thanks, Rabea 😂
Just got my Sy200... cannot wait to get stuck in. Thanks for the demo dude!

You’re best video ever no exaggeration. Felt you writing a blade runner theme song before my eyes and I’m genuinely blown away. Have an amazing day
Absolutely beautiful intro, dude! And the last jam around 19:07. KILLER!! You are the man!!
Holy shit! You could write an entire album around this pedal!
You could do that with anything
PHAT Man !!
Some ABSOLUT Stunning sounds you get out of that Pedal ..
Your note choice is always impeccable dude. Love watching you play.

Was just thinking the same thing while watching this review!
Awesome demo, sounds great when blended like that.
So cool cant wait to buy it it is exactly the pedal sounds i was looking for ,for long time!
I been saving for the SY-1. So, I guess I'll keep saving!
What an incredible demo! If I had any confidence in being able to recreate anything remotely like you played it would be an Insta-buy!
This Pedal is DAMM COOL and i think you can get Addicted to it ..and it´s a BOSS Pedal ...THE Gold Standard since the 70s ...
See that Jump riff is why I still love GK-Pickup synth stuff, you can hold the low note and still play the riff with a polyphonic synth sound. I would love an SY pedal for my board though, way less stressful for gigs.
That's a cool idea! I have the SY300, so that should be possible... holding one of the 3 oscillators and using the other two for polyphonic leads.
amazing pedal.the effects and sounds are out of this world.wesome demonstration.
This is EXACTLY the kind of thing we're doing in our music right now! Thank you so much for the demo and for showing me that it is possible with this pedal. GENIUS!!!!!
You have such a melodic brain
Hahahaha the Matt Bellamy bit, when I noticed that it took me a looooong time to get used to it! Great vid Bea 🔥
That was a very cool presentation as usual ... possibilities to enhance compositions are awesome with a such pedal :-)
BEST Vid of this Pedal ..WHAT SOUNDS ..

Really enjoy all you do Rebea
When you mentioned about wanting just the synth on the low strings that's where the gk pickup comes in. Each string can be a different sound.
this is the demo i was looking for

Yes. Tiger Stripe camo. You will be able to do nighttime assaults on your mom's refrigerator!

Haha Matt’s breathing and his “Nnn” before a next line! Speaking of Muse this would be great for some Muse songs.
Nice movie soundtrack sounds! Rabea, you're the most versatile guitar UA-camr I've ever heard and super talented!
Terrific sound!!! Thanks for the review man!
AMAZING! I hope to see you in April in my town with Frog Leap. Bring the pedal!
The JUMP!
Oh my! Those are some killer sounds you get out of that thing! I definetly NEED that pedal now! 🤩
Came here just to see what Boss recently released. Ended by adding something new to my Sweetwater wish list.

18:53 what’s this from? Sounds really familiar. Like a song I’ve heard in a Guy Ritchie film.
12:54 min ...OMG!!!! Pink Floyd Sound What a DAMM Great sounding Unit ..
Boy you got it ON!!!
I BUY THAT !!
Wtf that was bloody amazing @ 5:00 Stroll on! Bravo Sir!
Loved the badger and squirrel sequence man! 😂
Can you share the Quad Cortex patch so we can emulate the SY-200 stereo rig you've got setup?

You can make anything sound great but that pedal's perfect for you.
Your play style is killer! Amazing melodies, brother. Thanks for the demo!
I’m interested to see how this stacks up to something like a Micro synth or the HOG
Awesome video man! are you able to use just the effects in the SY-200 effects loop.....with no SY-200 sounds going on?
Cheers.

Awesome use of this thing, my guy! Killer sounds 👍🏾
I use an sy-1 in my band. Wish it had presets. And I really only use a handful of sounds. Expensive upgrade to get what I really want to play live.
Thanks so much for this exposé! How about in the snd/return loop of the NUX MG-30? Would that work?
Great Channel ..Damm cool Stuff
5:04 sounds like it could be from something like Blade Runner meets 28 Days Later.
How much to get a Rabea shipped with my BOSS SY-200 new! ;)
This versus the Meris Enzo? Also - hows the tracking? I always struggled to play riffs with these things - seem to be more of a hold chords and enjoy thing.
Thats massive, would be cool if you maybe draw how you connected and mixed everything stereo+dry+synth
Great demo Rabea. Congrats! One question: On the SY1, the Lead synths don't really work above about high E (12th fret, high E string) Notes above that just go dead. Can you play above the high E with the SY200 ? Thanks! Best - Andy

Sounds great, any chance of getting a diagram?

Awesome!!! What make/model is the blue guitar in this video?
Epic sounds ❤
IS there any alternative for Neural DSP Quad Cortex? OR you need only an aby to split the sounds between sy200 and the guitar?

Great video though dude !!!!
Thanks a bunch !!!!!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🤙
Thanks so much Rabea! Got a poly blue octave but latency is bad. Probably going to swap with SY.
holy smokes that MAYONES sounds incredible.
There will be a small market but those guys will love it.
Hi i just one question...this pedal can do layer... like same as sy 1...and layer make long sustain... thank u for the answer...
Dude, awesome. thank you, I hope that I can come close to a rig setup.
Is this limited to just tweaking presets, or can you create your own patches from scratch?
I've been using EHX Synth9 for all these while and very please with the sound. I'm playing acoustic guitar. Should try this pedal as well later
Those are the very baddest assed riffs! Make songs with that shit immediately Rabea... Damn!
Please share what patches were used on this video.
nice patches Bea,what are those pickups in that nice guitar?
I wonder if the same kinda setup can be done with just Helix and SY200. Coz i am seriously considering adding this to my live rig and it can make my band sound huge. As we are just 4 people on stage.
Rabea is demoing the SY-200 and immediately launches into VH's Jump. Why not? : ) I didn't expect it....
Found your channel from Frog Leap's channel. Rock on!
So when's the album of Sy200 jams drop? Because I could listen to this all day.
That setup just sounds amazing!
Very cool Demo and of course playing! It sounds interesting! But there is only one output, is it right. No separate output for guitar and one saperate for synth?
How would u accomplish this if you wanted to use a marshall jcm800 into a 1960a cab as opposed to the quad cortex?
So wait, you're running fuzz into the sy200? And that gives it a fuzz tone without messing it up?
Grat setup
