Hi there!
There are pedal demos and then there are Rabea pedal demos! Nobody else goes to these lengths to truly integrate the pedal into the context of a rig/song and this was truly inspiring and ingenious. So much so I'm very tempted to buy one myself just to emulate those sounds you created and even use them in my bands songs. You shed light on a way to use this pedal I hadn't even thought of. I had the SY-1 briefly but you're right that it was dumb not to be able to remotely switch between presets. I also agree that 90% of the sounds on this thing sound dates, cheesy and pretty much unusable and I wish Boss had spent more time creating more modern synth tones. But you managed to create some epic sounds regardless.
Yeah its quiet; possibly the most useful demo ever done on it. What a Monster demo Mate. Bloody hell.
Just got one. There are so many sounds that you can get out of this pedal. Amazing!
Yeah you’re paraphrasing to meet your needs. He didn’t say that 90% of this thing sounds cheesy, he just said they were what he would personally use.

I have the SY-1 on my pedalboard with a similar signalpath.
My guitar goes into the input of the SY-1. All pre preamp effects and the preamp stage of my amp are in the FX-Loop of the SY-1 and from the output of the SY-1 I send the signal to delay and reverb into the power amp.

Great Gods man your playing is just freaking amazing and inspiring. Been eyeballing this pedal since it was announced. I get along alright on the keys but when I want to stay in the zone on my guitar, the last thing I want to do is fart around with Analog Lab for hours. I can see this fitting into my post-rock/shoegaze stuff quite easily.

Synth pedals are so consistently underrated, glad to see you embrace them so fully and use them so tastefully.
Also re: your wish for low-end independence in your synth patches, you could use a programmable EQ right after the synth sound to manually attenuate everything about a certain frequency band. It's a crude solution, but something that might work, and if it's a MIDI-capable EQ, you could sync it to remove different things for different patches.
I been saving for the SY-1. So, I guess I'll keep saving!

See that Jump riff is why I still love GK-Pickup synth stuff, you can hold the low note and still play the riff with a polyphonic synth sound. I would love an SY pedal for my board though, way less stressful for gigs.
That's a cool idea! I have the SY300, so that should be possible... holding one of the 3 oscillators and using the other two for polyphonic leads.

This is a pedal that grows on you quick! You just keep discovering new ways of using it! it’s like having some kind of robot band mate? that plays along with you, if that makes any sense! It’s great fun and worth getting
some seriously cool stuff came out love it haha. The face you had at the end of playing van halen at the beginning is the exact face and feeling i get when something just sounds really fuckking cool haha

Unfortunately I cannot say I am also playing through the same array of gear and instruments that you have, but at least there’s the similar pants that sound quite good with any parameter setting. Great video.

Another brilliant demo video Rabea, here’s the 1 thing I don’t like about this pedal. The voices!!! I have a gr55 with the gk pickup, I have an eventide h9max. Amidst all that I have a plethora of other pedals in my chain plus I run various korg, Casio and Roland synths via the midi from the gr55 and h9. I am synth’d out to the max yet I can hear the sy200 voices calling me. Put me in your signal chain. Put me behind, in front, in series, parallel. Just put me in your signal chain. Put me behind…..it goes on….in a loop. Godamit man, just as well I’m doing overtime at work 😉
You could do an entire Spooky Season drop with this setup. Just crazy dark synthy goodness to play on a loop to set the mood!

It’s like the squeaky bass pedal in led Zeps ‘since I’ve been loving you’ once you hear it that’s all you can hear. I pointed it out to my brother and then he took me off his Christmas card list.
I use an sy-1 in my band. Wish it had presets. And I really only use a handful of sounds. Expensive upgrade to get what I really want to play live.

Hi Rabea, love what you’ve done with this pedal. Any chance you’d make your Quad Cortex preset you’ve made for this available on your Cortex Cloud profile? Just so it’s easier for us to hook up our own setup like this?
Been a SY1 user for awhile in conjunction with the Helix....one path is dry guitar tone with splash of Helix verb, one is SY1 with Helix effects post split L/R end of that chain & can control both paths with expression pedals it's effin huge!! Might be pulling trigger on SY200 now 🤦🤣👍🏻

Hi Rabea. Superb demo..many thanks... can you comment on the attack response... had a b9 pedal that was frustrating because there was a verrrrrrrry small (but noticeable) delay between the attack of the pick and the generated sound. Has boss solved that issue?
I've been using EHX Synth9 for all these while and very please with the sound. I'm playing acoustic guitar. Should try this pedal as well later
Love your demos bro! I have a question. I use a 10 loop Midi looper (RJM PBC). If I plugged my guitar into the input of the SY, then had the send go to the input of my looper, run all my loops like I normally would, then have the output of the looper go back to the return, would I be able to maintain my normal guitar signal when the SY is bypassed? and then have everything run parallel when the SY is engaged? Thanks!
Very cool Demo and of course playing! It sounds interesting! But there is only one output, is it right. No separate output for guitar and one saperate for synth?

When you mentioned about wanting just the synth on the low strings that's where the gk pickup comes in. Each string can be a different sound.

Hi Rabea - great demo. I have a question about the effects loop.... Do you still hear the effects loop when the synth is off? E.g if I have a chorus pedal in the loop do I hear the chorussed guitar when the synth is switched off. Then when I switch the synth on do I (depending on D-Level/E-Level mix) hear chorussed guitar and chorussed synth? Or can I set it go get chorussed guitar and "dry" synth? Cheers Jon
One thing worth mentioning is that there is a switch in the back for bass or guitar, and that will effect the way the unit reacts. Try using the "bass" setting (in the back) when plugging in a guitar when using the "Bass TYPE" on the front of the unit and check out the way it reacts to your playing when switching from "bass" to "guitar" on the switch in the back!!...you will be suprised!!...by using the "bass" setting in the back, the "bass type" will effect less the higher strings, so it helps to separate the low strings from the high strings in certain situations!!...if you want the "bass type" to affect the higher strings of the guitar, then use the "guitar" setting in the back!!...my two cents!!...if that makes sense to you!!...
You make it all sound so sweet.. if I used it it would take me a week to turn it on...

amazing demo question: I have a stereo rig/ integrating an FX loop I just got this pedal could you publish a wiring diagram ( perhaps utilizing an AB switch) where I can run the pedal independently or the guitar independently and then of course mixing the two together?

Awesome stuff. I'd actually just bought an SY-1 a week before this got announced. Needless to say, I returned that sucker and pre-ordered the SY-200 since it's got the ability to make and store presets and also a tap tempo option.
Out of curiosity, do you see this going on your Schmidt Array Pedalboard of Doom™?
