I had the honor and privilege of writing with Richard about a month before he died. It was the last song he had a hand in writing. It's being recorded finally this week
I lived in Houston back in the 70's and played in the same circles when Richard was getting his start. As Thomm mentioned, he was an indirect teacher, I still hold all he spoke about. Great guy.
Ah man, just seeing this, so happy to see a spotlight on him. I’ve had a copy of In Texas Last December for quite some time and have kept my eyes peeled for a copy of the Big Taste or his books for what feels like forever now. An outsider among outsiders, my kinda guy. Also totally agree that Forever For Always For Certain is the best song on Heartworn Highways. Cheers!
Good for Thomm for taking the time out to talk to him and later be friends with him. You never know who you can learn a lot from and establish a valued friendship with.
This interwiev with Thomm Jutz was really, really great, so big thanks Otis for posting it. Thomm is saying a lot of wounderful and important things, for example: "He was not just a guy who knew these peoples (Townes, Guy Clark ...), he was one of them".
Loved this. I read the Gulf Coast Boys after you mentioned it in another video. Enjoyed it as much for the oil rig talk as I did for the music tales (oddly). I'm glad to know there are more books. I'm glad to get to enjoy Thomm's storytelling skills. And I'm glad for all the cool stuff this channel makes me find!
Once again Otis you nailed it with this wonderful interview. I always wondered if Richard Dobson was kin to me but never had the chance to ask him. His songs and writings are legendary to me though. Thank you so much.
Well, this was a striking bit of synchronicity as I’m on page 72 of Dobson’s Gulf Coast Boys. Bought the book a couple of weeks back after seeing your endorsement of Richard Dobson’s work in an earlier video. My only complaint about this particular interview is that it’s too short. As always, thank you for posting these great interviews with folks I would’ve otherwise never known of. Bless you, Otis.
Another great vid Otis ✌ I'm about halfway through Gulf Coast Boys as per your recommendation on a previous video and it's been a great read. Much love!
Otis, you have raised the bar again, what a wonderful tribute from Thomm, I have always believed that Richard was a seriously underrated songwriter, anyone that name checks Pinto Bennett and the Motel Cowboys is OK with me
Thanks a bunch Otis. Great show as always. You introduced me to Heartworn Highways and I agree Richard Dobson was brilliant on that. Many thanks Otis, have a good one.
Hey Otis, A question? Who is playing guitar with Richard Dobson in the video where he gets the cigarette down shirt?? It's an awesome complement to an incredible version of " Hard on the Highway!" Far and away my favorite of the versions available on line. If you know/can find out, please post the answer in comments on that version. Just ordered "Gulfport Boys." Thanks, Roger

Thanks. Great stuff
Rodney's face in this video is hilarious
Saw him in Germany about fifteen years ago in a really nice small bar (in Eisenberg, I think). Was a great gig. Chatted to him a bit after as well.
