- Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion previously known as 'Spooky's House of Jumpscares' is an indie horror game where we play the role of a historian exploring 1000 rooms of a haunted house. Our guide is a mischievous ghost girl by the name of Spooky. But who is Spooky and what is her backstory, what is she up to and what does the ending of the game actually mean? Is this mansion more than a simple haunted house? In today's video we explain the story of Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion and it's DLC 'Karamari Hospital' in a theory and analysis video looking at explaining the entire story of the game.

My impression of Spooky was that the ghost are created through an tragic enough deaths. CAT-DOS seems to imply that this was the intention all along of gathering the monsters together. They are measured by how likely they are to not only kill people, but also how likely they are to create ghost for her army. Specimen 11 even has listed "not effective as victim's souls do not remain after contact."
and in the good ending she says “you died, in a tragic way enough for you to become a ghost!”

Its a really good game, and I honestly suggest going into it blind, but if you're sure you'd wanna be spoiled on what its about, I can definitely tell you, since I've played it a couple times myself

The house itself reminds me of Cube, the rooms changing around much like the rooms in Cube.

This video was fairly well made, and it least you got many of the facts of the story right but there were a few details missing. For instance, the person that killed Spooky in the 4th arcade machine cutscene, that person specifically was suffering from PTSD as they were mentioned in the good ending of the Karamari Hospital DLC. The note next to the exit key at the end of the DLC changes depending on if you get the good or bad ending (which you get depending on how many monsters you killed with the sword.) Also if you were curious the Dollhouse DLC, it is planned to release late 2019 or early 2020, but there is no exact release date as the devs don't want them to have a strict deadline and having it end up rushed or unfinished.
Otherwise I'm glad that some people still care about this game, sadly it died off mostly and the community is really small now, but videos like this give me hope that more people can learn and play about this game. Hopefully some extra people become a bit more passionate or at least try this game out due to this video, I really want this game to thrive a bit more one last time before development on it stops after Build-Your-Own-Mansion comes out.
I like how this game makes you think its cute, but then tricks you into thinking its about the specimens, but then it turns out to be about the one -cute- *SCARY* character.

Ihave a theory about why her father never turned off the machine. Possibly, she let the creatures free as a prank to scare everyone and also to kill them but they also attacked her father, killing him before he could shut it off. Just an idea.

honestly i think it'd be a bit funny if Spooky told you at the end of the game "yeah, you almost made it out alive but you were so on-edge and generally damaged by the terrors you endured that you got so scared from one of those cutouts, you died right there and went along like nothing happened"

The man who shot her was a veteran suffering from PTSD and shot her in defense because firecrackers sound a lot like shooting. His voice regretting his actions can be heard in game if you stay still on one place in a specific room.

I'm pretty sure the ink monster is a reference to Adventure Time. I've only seen a handful of episodes, but one I watched after I discovered this game featured black/green sludge monsters with those same messy teeth. They lived in pool floaties, if anyone remembers that episode.
Similar art style. Simple eyes, no nose, flat colors, deformed cartoony body, etc.

I personally feel like it isn't underrated but if you were to argue that it was, you would have a steady argument. I personally enjoyed the game but it was definitely tedious. Especially if you got it early on.

Cabin in the Woods wasn’t inspired by SCP Foundation. Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard have always been pretty open about what were influences behind that movie and there’s no hint they’re even aware of SCP Foundation. The only connection is they’re both facilities that contain monsters, but it’s more likely any similarities are accidental
Fun fact: There's a Left 4 Dead easter egg in the movie. If you look to the right of the screen, you just might catch a glimpse of a witch held inside of a containment cell. You know, the skinny ladies with freakishly long claws that cry and wail all the time unless you disturb them and make 'em chase you.
Not to mention that scp wasn't nearly as popular when cabin in the woods was created, just because there's contained monsters doesn't mean scp.

@@luissantiago5163 just went and looked at the Steam Discussions and the devs are apparently still active on there and have been releasing info on their Discord, so it sounds like it's still going to be finished!

I just thought of something, what if spooky killed her father, but because the second device wasn’t turned off he stayed as a ghost and kept her from leaving the mansion. I believe that this ghost is who you fight at the end of the game, and he tries to trap people who go into the mansion within a shrinking hallway and kill them himself in a way that prevents them from becoming a ghost

Specimen 9 is a flayed human from unit 731. Spooky’s dad was alive after ww2. It’s impossible for him to be specimen 9
Nope, according to the Cat-Dos entry for them, Specimen 9 (AKA The Taker) is a survivor from the Unit 731 experiments (Unit 731 was a research department of the Japanese Military during WW2 that was responsible for the absolute most inhumane and cruel human experiments in all of history.) They were stated to have been found by GL Labs in a Farmhouse in Russia, and were dismembered due to being too difficult to contain, motivating it to find replacement parts in the form of "Taking", people who stay within the mansion for too long. (
Their father was alive LONG after WW2, so they couldn't possibly have been The Taker, and everything we know ABOUT The Taker is antithetical to the very idea. The only reason that Spooky decided to re-fuse the Taker is because they're stated to be the single most effective specimen when they're actually allowed to be used.

By the time I got to 1:48 in the video, I started noticing the similarities of SHJSM and Portal.
1. The previous explorer reminds me a LOT of Doug Rattmann, with their drive toward madness.
2. Spooky also kind of reminds me of GLaDOS. I mean, they’re both antagonists with a tragic backstory. Also, when you get to Room 500, the clip of Spooky’s dialogue once again reminds me of GLaDOS’ sadistic curiosity on how you are still alive when you get to her chamber.
And no, I haven’t played SHJSM _yet,_ but I’m planning on it; though I _have_ played Portal, and am currently onto Portal 2.
Just a thought... not like I’ve compared Chara from Undertale to Spooky or anything...
Also in room 1001 you can find The Vault. Eh? Eh?? Get it? Because they’re both named- nevermind...
