This was the song that changed the singer's life :-) I just watched some CCTV program featuring Dedema 德德玛 yesterday (04 Feb), there she revealed that this song was monumental in elevating her solo singing career. Before singing this song in Guangdong, she was a duet singer in her singing & dancing troupe, and she's only brought along her troupe to the show in Guangdong Fair because the young Dedema begged for her participation, if not mistaken it's in 1979 or around that. After her impressive solo singing of this song there, followed by her bright performance of the same song in Beijing, her name rose to the national fame as well as this prairie song became quite popular throughout China and other Chinese communities around the world. It's hinted in the show that this song made the Inner Mongolia becoming well-known among the Chinese people. It's Dedema who popularized this song in the late 70s or early 80s.
