Great video, as usual, Jakob. Another one missing is Erik Sigth's Ström (IAA). These are great for incorporating something of the moment into a performance, be it generative/ambient/experimental or just dance music. Mylar Melodies says in one of his videos that he often includes old newsreel audio about the place he’s playing into his live sets.
It will work if you launch it *before* loading it into an input slot in AUM, which seems to be increasingly common with older apps. But an update would be great, especially if it became AUv3. If for no other reason than I like the interface :-)
man, that one is a hell of recommendation. this Fluid Radio that’s included to the default setup is a pure treasure, didn’t know it exists. Just found myself jamming along with this station for about… uh… last 7 hours?.
At first, I was like, what is this? Browsing the web from AUM lol. But I let cooler heads prevail knowing you don’t lead us astray. I see some interesting use cases as I never thought of this. It’s little things like this that make iOS music creation so powerful (cough, syntakt cough) Thank you sir.
Yeah I’ve been researching generative music and so I’ve got some videos planned about that stuff. I need some referral material for when I start making my vids and this one is one of those referral vids. Streaming random audio from random places into your setups can really liven stuff up in unexpected ways.
@@JakobHaq generative music is actually awesome. and another thing about it is that despite the fact it’s not yet that common among music lovers and musicians in general, it has already managed to develop quite a few directions and ways to approach this concept in the making - some do MIDI scripting like Mozaic, some experimenting with math through Drambo, others using more of tools that rely mostly on musicianship - using Riffer and stacking up massive harmonies with other extensions on top of 1-voice melody that Riffer is capable of, creating some sick orchestral arrangements. You approach a total different direction here, as I can see - mostly using audio signal processing to discover some unexpected musical results. So no doubt generative music as whole is already a pretty huge direction in music production. I’m actively messing around with generative stuff from around 2018, got hooked up with building up streams with a whole lot of loops of my production that can be broken down to sets of instrument parts - a pack of kick patterns, perc patterns, synths, basses, live guitar recordings - obviously all in a certain scale, bpm and time signature to be able to work with each other - the more material is fed to this whole creation, the more unexpected and interesting is the result on output and it really rarely repeats itself that way. so it’s kind of surreal to listen to the whole thing, knowing that every piece of musical phrasing there was composed legitimately with your own hands but at the same time to hear them building up on each other to form a composition that you didn’t imagine that would be possible to come up with using this certain set of input material, ‘cause obviously - there is almost infinite amount of combinations that a certain musical piece can be taken to, a human just won’t have enough time to think through all of those. here’s one of the latest streams I made, in case you’re interested in how it actually sounds. it’s l a project I prepared after gathering some experience, making a bunch of mistakes, and building some... strange experimental stuff - in other words, something that may be not-so-easy-to-listen-musical-experience to a regular listener that’s someone other than a “music enthusiast” loool. but this one is actually more of a conscious production with a goal to create something solely musical that would make sense to any casual listener as well as enthusiast. so it may be even safe to say that it’s actually turned out to be not bad this time loool. (fully iOS based production by the way - from MIDI-based composing to recording any live takes - guitars, vocals, etc - and all the post-production of course) play.mubert.com/8664b3c06cef358671948c5aa I don’t know - chances are that maybe you’ve already come across this platform, but if not - really check it out, they’ve grown to be quite a massive hub for generative creations since 2018 when I just started to mess with this whole concept back then. Now there’s quite an impressive list of genres available - from deep house to post-rock, orchestral as well as some weird-ass niche subgenres such as chill-rave, microfunk (¿👾?) and trancestep (😵💫?whaa¿) loool. anyway thought I’d share this since you wrote specifically that you are into this whole generative approach - no doubt that for anyone who’s researching the subject there is something to find there. though I must add that it’s a rabbit hole 🕳 - just as a disclaimer. addictive stuff, heavy drugs.
Tube au was an app that allowed guitarists to play guitar backing track videos to practice with. 😩 I suppose the first 2 web player and web audio apps could possibly do the same thing. Great channel Jakob.
Hi!, have you found a solution for this? I am using my ipad for amp and fx but the problem is youtube’s volume(backing track) is overpowering the amp&fx and there is no way i could turn its volume. Thanks
I'd advise anyone who's into either amateur radio or shortwave listening, DXing, etc. to check out WebSDR. SDR stands for "software-defined radio." It's an AUv3 unit that streams audio from many different "WebSDR" sites that have been configured to receive live radio--not from an Internet audio feed, but live tunable radio signals received at remote antennas. To clarify, you don't need your own antennas, fancy radios, etc. because the signals are received at remote sites where those things are already set up. (For the hams out there--It's like turning your computer into a remote receiver with a band scope and all the modes, filters, etc. that you have on your HF rig in your shack.) There are loads of noises out there on the airwaves just begging to be made into beats, drones, and whatever else we can come up with!
This is great, thank you! I’m was searching like mad for something like this while making this episode. I just didn’t know what to search for and whatever I did search for didn’t turn up any useful results. 😅
But ... may I finally approach your Sound System? The sound mangling possibilities are indeed endless these days. Keep doing your thing Jakob, it's appreciated here. :)
Hi Jacob, I absaloutely love you channel, this one though I can’t think of a single thing I would use any of it for. I don’t sample from all ready made stuff, an app I would like to see a is an sd sample database, IOS. OTG doesn’t get enough love! Lol
I had no use for apps like these until I started researching “generative music”. I’ll be covering that topic soon, but I need some reference material to refer to when I do cover the topic. This video is one of them.
I’m not sure if they had one in the past but they don’t have one now at least. Erik’s sights ström is still there though and hes Swedish 🇸🇪 just like the guys at Klevgränd produkter (and me 🥰). 👍
Hey man, I was not interested in these type of apps. Why?? I keep my iPad on no data and wifi sucks dooky ballz in my local area. Soooo randomly using these apps on my iPad. Like shown in the video, web AU puts out Video and Audio, but Audio does not port out into AUM. Web Audio Player puts out Audio into AUM, but video is blocked.
No, Apple will probably never allow for this type of operation natively. You’d have to use hardware in the form of a multi channel sound interface with more than 2 outputs to avoid feedback loops. TBH, web audio player is probably your best bet.
I’m not sure exactly what you mean. 😅 None of these browser/player apps has any clocks or anything, so they can’t be synced. Can you elaborate on what is it that you want to do exactly?
@@benouaafrika6609 Well I’d probably at least get an iPad that isn’t older than 4-5 years. You might end up wanting to add more stuff to your session like effects and stuff and things like reverbs are heavy for example. But if you’re only using apps like these you should be able to get by with an older iPad like the iPad Air from 2019.

Cool video. One quick thing, web Au is by Christian Thompson I think his name is, and web audio player is by Blue Mangoo aka Lami Consulting

Nope, so thanks for the tip. I’ve added a link to it in the pinned comment! 👍

Yeah, I loose hours when using it.
I’m looking for a shortwave and longwave radio app. I want to sample the noise in between stations
Ah! Yes me too! Do yourself a favour and look at what commenter “Andy Campbell” wrote. It might be of use to you! 😉
Ahhh. You just gave me the idea to sample single side band on my C.Crane Skywave SSB !
If it wasn't for your channel I wouldn't of know about half of these apps
Thank you for watching! I always aim to do my best.
i think tube au is back its called tube audio unit
