First this is just awsome! I could listen to you guys talk about your favorite jeans, what clothing stores you like and the experiences growing up. Talking about home improvement. Going on a motorcycle tour. Favorite camping dishes, things roasted over flames. The point is your joy in sharing time with one another is exceedingly apparent! It brings me joy! Much love!
Mick! Thrilled for a new Strat that suits you! Thanks, all of you, for taking up my question about the Hendrix Strat. For me, there was an unexpected "hallowed relic" resonance. I never would have guessed it would shake me so, and still can't quite believe it. The idea that Jimi played that very guitar, before such esteemed company... just a man and a guitar, of course... but a mind-blowing moment nonetheless.
Nitro is actually very easy to spray. Very forgiving. But the problem is that you need a lo of passes to apply a sufficient number of coats, with some dry time between each. And then you need between one and four weeks of dry time before final sanding/polishing. Poly finishes can be sprayed, cured and polished the same day.
Big thanks to everyone who joined us in the chat today all 2,200 of you, and a special thanks to Tom Bukovac who also joined us in the chat ! you can find him here > ua-cam.com/users/501chorusecho
At home, an Ox plus whatever amp you want is a perfectly good option. Not cheap, but 100W with headphones is no problem at all. I also had a 100W plexi hooked up to a Fryette Power Station and a little 2x8" cabinet which was perfect for the apartment.
Fender brought out the black, BUT pre-reverb, versions of the Champ, Princeton, Deluxe, Vibrolux, Pro, and Concert, plus the Super Reverb, Vibroverb, Twin Reverb, Tremolux, Bandmaster, Showman, and both the black and "tuxedo" versions of the Bassman. Gotta be something in there!
I get what you're saying about fuzz, but my suggestion would be to find the player that has a fuzz sound you like and find out what fuzz style it is and try one out through a clean amp. The idea you have to be able to control your playing before going to fuzz isn't necessarily the only way to approach fuzz. Plenty of doom and stoner metal bands use fuzz and HM style distortion to create a wall of sound and sustain without control. So it probably comes down to what you want to do with the fuzz.
When I talk about Pat Martino I have to talk about Johnny Smith they are for me in Jazz what Hendrix/Clapton or Satriani/Vai symbolize for many guitarrista from the Rock perspective.
Brilliant show! Lee and Pete are fantastic gents and funny as heck! Truly an epic gathering, please repeat whenever it's convenient. Cheers, and have a fine holiday season everyone.
Love this. But wrong wrong wrong on the home amp. The newish Vibro Champ Reverb is a fantastic home pedal platform, infinitely more enjoyable than a THR.
Ah cool I've wanted to spend good money on a forever guitar if you like and with endless options struggled to make a decision but it was your strat video that set me on the path of buying a strat so yeah thanks for that Mick I love it lol
Julio didn’t have a band called King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. They are an Australian band that are very much current and seriously prolific. Took 2 of my offspring to see them at Alexander Palace in 2019.
45 minutes in - who would your ideal two guitarist parents be and being yourself - I'd just be happy to be competent so I have no choice but to be me - but I can tell you this: Nobody would want to be me!
Mick and Pete are always clashing on timing or whatever. Pete does go on a bit long in their vids, but Mick soldiers on and accommodates only so much. That's not to say Mick isn't the most well spoken, well prepared, and audience focused of them all, but Danish Pete is probably the nicest guitar guy on all of UA-cam. It's just something that stands out to me, that everyone talks over him or ignores him when he speaks up.
They keep referring to the hendrix strat as a ‘new’ guitar it was a ‘64 and not one of the new models he used and abused live. His ex girlfriend stated he had a couple of Strats that were his favourites and they were both mid/early 60’s models.
I had my fingers hovering over the buy button for that Gold Strat on and off for about a month.....bottled it over the colour, and now Micks gone and bought it. I'll be tortured every time I see it now 😭
I’m curious about Pete’s comment about just turning down the master volume if you have one on a valve amp. What about power amp tube distortion? Is power amp drive negligible in your opinion?
Pearl Jam wanted to name the band Mookie Blaylock after their favorite NBA player. The record company thought that could be problematic so someone came up with Pearl Jam and their first record was named Ten because that was Mookie Blaylock’s number.
I have a question. Who do I go to (who has time) to figure out my dream pedal board. I don’t have money for it now, and have no idea what I like or what’s out there. But I feel like the world of pedals is incredibly in excessive for that not around specific people or places. But what kid of person specializes in this stuff??? I have no clue.
Great show guys! ‘Comment of the show’ for me was Lee: “All any professional guitarist cares about is does the guitar stay in tune?”. Amen to that brother. After making a living for 30 years as a session/touring guitarist, its the thing that i just cant get passed. I grew up on Strats woth locking systems, and then changed to Les Pauls and Tele’s…. Arggjh!. I still love my Les Pauls and Tele’s but if i buy one that won’t stay in tune, I sell it. Lifes too short to be tuning every 3 minutes lol. Thanks gentlemen 🤟
I'm loving this so much!!! 10 minutes in and we've seen a new Strat, Pete's cursing on air, Captain has divulged secretive projects, I've learned about a new (old) trem system I've never heard of before... You all have spoiled us out here in UA-cam land! Must be the Christmas season or something to have received such a nice gift :0 Thanks y'all.
can you boys have an episode with all 4 of you where you each take any classic vibe guitar (strat, tele, jazzmaster...) and mod it i think it would be interesting to see what each of you do. maybe put it into teams of pete and dan for the tele extravaganza and mick and lee creating the strat of destiny. this would make for an awesome episode no matter what.
Their suppliers (Fender) don't like that because in their eyes you are dis'ing their fully functional instruments by changing them with 3rd party parts. And since Lee runs a store that sells Fender might not go over well.
MISSED THE LIVE STREAM! Just wanted to drop a comment to say that all you gents have inspired me to play, but THE CAPTAIN has inspired me to practice. He gets my vote for most improved guitar player of the decade. Love his vibe, seems like a great dude, and his short FB jams make me day. Thanks all!
I have an original 1995 Strat Plus Deluxe that has locking tuners, an LSR roller nut, and the Mini Fender Floyd Rose bridge. It’s not a very common combination; they didn’t make many of the Mini Floyd Roses… it will not go out of tune. Not exactly “vintage”… but it sounds damn good and I don’t have to worry about staying in tune at all.
To Pete's point, I personally never like super low action on my guitars even though a play a lot of fast lead work. I've always been a fan of heavy, thrash style riffs, and being a bigger guy, I tend to hammer the strings really hard. For me it simply works better to have a little extra height in terms of action and to play heavier gauge strings even in standard tuning. A lot of that comes down to what is more functional rather than what would be the easiest possible thing to play on.
Grateful to have a job during these days, but damn I can’t believe I missed VCQ with Lee and Pete sitting in, so I could sit through 2 hours of meetings that could’ve been an email hahaha.
Brilliant show ! I love the feeling of just sitting around having conversation with like minded friends. Congratulations on the new Strat Mick. I'm sure we will see a lot of it in future TPS episodes.
Its funny, that nowadays, there are no real touring guitarist idols anymore. There are youtubers, talking to youtubers about youtubers. And the brands shifted to endorse youtubers. Thats just a turn of the world. No negativity intended.
I was thinking just the same earlier today. Mick has incredible guitar technique. In the 70’s he’s be a hero in a full time touring band. Same for chappers and rabea. Not better or worse. Just evolved in a way no one foresaw.
I appreciate the no negativity but I disagree. Yes the guitar world is not nearly as popular as it used to be and yes UA-camrs are a lot more in the public eye but there are PLENTY of amazing guitar players touring right now have more than earned the right to be idolized. Derek Trucks Joe Bonamassa Marcus King Eric Gales Buddy Guy Billy Strings Jared James Nichols are just a few examples. The difference between the players I just mentioned and the four esteemed gentlemen in this video is that That Pedal Show and Andertons use the internet and UA-cam specifically to share their opinions on gear specifically. The more you’re on the internet the more you’ll see these guys. These modern touring musicians will use the internet to help ticket sells. Sometimes they will post videos sometimes they will just advertise their next gig. Now why people idolize the UA-camrs more is because it is totally free to hope online when you have a spare moment and watch them try gear out and create some cool jams. On the other hand it costs at least $20 bare minimum to go see a live band and most people just don’t want to do that especially now. Again no negativity towards you and your opinion. Just wanted to share mine.

Guys I've recently been rewatching your buffer episodes...I recently played my strat at a jam into my exotic SL when winding down the volume and a big loss in too end...so I was thinking of running the SL into my Boss SD1 (off) will that give me back the high frequencies?
I really hope we get a Strat Vlog on this new guitar, very interested to learn the specs and why you were drawn to it. Looks killer, look forward to seeing more of it!
Aaaargh - I was stalking that Strat on the Andertons site but couldn't pluck up the courage to drop that much money. Looking forward to seeing it being played properly at least!
Fantastic show guys. All four instrumental (no pun) in reinvigorating my guitar playing the past couple of years through lockdown after a number of years away. As a similar demographic to you guys so much of what you say chimes with me; especially the humour ! Thank you the journey so far and I look forward to what you will bring to the future. My fav pedal Boss CE2.
Great episode with a dreamteam! Kind regards from the Nobels bunch Hamburg
Hello friends!
Jazz isn't dead it just smells funny....Loved that comment!
Enjoyed that very much. Thanks to all four of you. Would happily watch such an event again in the future.
Thank you guys for have us, had a brilliant time. Let’s do it again soon. DP

I just discovered Tom Bukovac!!!! WOW!

Briiillliant guys! Thanks for this great entertainment. The new Fab Four: Mick Dan Lee Pete. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🤗🤗🤗🤗 love you guys!
Dear Dan and Mick - please do a show on EHX for Mike Matthews' 80th. His influence is undeniable.
Oboy, just watched that Kirk Fletcher board rebuild show and he's fab! Thanks for mentioning him, Dan!
danish pete is my guitar hero, cuz of his phrasing / note choice, and groove.

This was the best video for me today 😂 love you guys so much.
An early Crimbo present from D, M, L and P! Thanks chaps that was great 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Huge congratulations on that Strat! Cool guitar in a very cool custom color.

Dave Gilmour's black strat. Sold for millions. It was like Trigger's broom. I believe the only original part was the bridge plate.
I laughed more than I should have, brilliant comparison.

Lee to Dan: ‘So you invented jazz than?’ Ahahahahaha 😆😆
Gear I want to see? Marshall do with the Bluesbreaker 2x12 Combo what Fender have done with their Tonemaster series.
I want the Katana 100watt head with the built in speakers upgraded to THR tone. That way I can gig and practice in bliss.

Can we please have the T.P.S. Anderton's incredibly boutique tube amp?
How long has that S been a note in the Andertons logo. I swear I never saw that before today. Did the matrix reload?
Best band named band I gigged with were “The Mighty Snortin Powder Rangers” ska band from Portsmouth.
That’s a keeper!

If you are one of these, there is a pedal that people are reselling like crazy for really cheap called the pigtronix micro disnortion. It is a fuzz and an overdrive circuit.
You can choose whether it is done in series (mega fuzzy, and cleans up fairly well) and parallel (crisp articulate overdrive, that you can get pretty raunchy with the gain control).
There are several filter positions for the eq of the fuzz as well.
Start with that pedal in parallel and go nuts. (This will retain an attack quality that is more normal to you)
As your playing becomes more dynamic you will start to feel the response of the sustain/gating become more musical. When you begin to like that response (as opposed to being annoyed by it, which is typical of fuzz noobs, so dont feel bad), knock it over to series and go nuts.
There are a couple muff tones, a slightly bender-ish one, a fuzz face-ish one, and two weirdos on the filter control. Decide which you like, buy the real deal and sell the disnortion to someone who wants to go on the same journey.
