      I completely agree, thank you so much for being so clear about it. I have done common-placing for years just didn’t know what it was called. You explained the dot system very clearly, thank you. I use Zig Clean Color Dot pens in my planner and now I have a use for soothe colors I don’t tend to use. Thanks again

    I recently fell down the rabbit hole of common placing and I love it ! I always did something similar but having a name to it and now having a proper system makes it’s so much better

    • @christadavidart

      Exactly! I feel like the practice of common placing is ancient and in our DNA. We all do it in some form or another. But it really is refreshing to have a name for it.

    Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Echoing having watched several other videos on commonplace books and it just seemed overwhelming. I love the dots system. Thank you for sharing!

      Thank you so much for watching my videos. It really means so much! And I am always aiming for simplicity in every part of my life (it's an ongoing practice) so you can expect that from my videos.

    Came for the lovely aesthetic thumbnail and notebook content, subscribed for your wonderful personality! You sound like such a genuine and interesting person ☺ thanks for sharing about your system, it's fascinating! When you said 'I USE my notebooks' I felt a lot of guilt about the pile on my shelf... haha 😅

      YAY! I am so glad you're here! Thank you for watching and subscribing. It means so much! And trust me I have LOTS of notebooks that are collecting dust but slowly but surely I am finding uses for them. I won't ever stop buying notebooks. Just bought 4 today from the Dollar Tree (I will use them for my morning pages, a practice I want to revisit).

    I started doing this in college in the early 70s. I used to tell my family that if the house caught fire, grab mom’s book and run. Everything was in there.

    • @christadavidart
      @christadavidart  6 місяців тому

      It really makes total sense to have an everything notebook. It's like we all know this innately. And yes, I would grab mine as well.

    First time viewer here. I had a thought about color coding - if you don’t have stickers, you could use colored pencils or pens. I even have one of those pens with four different colors of ink in it 😂

    • @christadavidart
      @christadavidart  7 місяців тому +2

      Yes! Exactly. Pens and highlighters will work perfectly! Use what you have 🙌🏾 thanks for viewing the video!

    The color coding idea is really cool. I used to try having a common place notebook but there's just so many things bunched up in one notebook that it becomes unorganized. I'll definitely use color coding next time.

    • @christadavidart
      @christadavidart  7 місяців тому +1

      Yep now that I color code, I am so happy to return to my notebooks and review things. Let me know how you like it. And you can totally use markers or highlighters instead of sticky dots!

    I’ve been common placing for decades and didn’t even know it 😂. BTW, absolutely love your videos. I don’t comment much because I watch on TV, but I always hit that like! I’m on a FIRE journey as well! Your videos are so helpful! Thanks for sharing!

    Thank you for sharing all these great notebook/journal ideas! I love to journal and have done so for many years, but I want to have more organization in the journals, and I really like your color coding idea. I may have to try that.

    I don't have a commonplace system. I have it all on digital form. However, as a tactical person, I definitely like the paper system much better than the digital form. Unfortunately, having commonplace notebook in the paper version, I was afraid that all my information will get lost and I wouldn't be able to find what I need. Your system with the color coding is such a great idea. Thank you for sharing this.

    • @christadavidart
      @christadavidart  7 місяців тому

      I totally get the fear of losing things when you go analog. I think about this too. My only solace is that we were once all analog and we managed, and anything that I lose, well it was time for me to let it go 🧡

    I’m realising that I basically use my iPhone notes app for commonplacing, but I’d rather do it physically / on paper. This video was really helpful thank you :D

    • @christadavidart
      @christadavidart  7 місяців тому +1

      I still keep lots of notes in my notes app especially links that I need to click on later. I am slowing moving some of those notes into folders and then into my common place notebooks. So a hybrid model for common placing is totally fine. 🧡
