I can't believe this is available for us to watch! This is one of those movies that I've seen countless times. There's like a handful of movies I watch if i want to be cheered up and this is one of them. Such a classic, yet under rated movie. To have this raw footage is incredible. so, crazy to see it being made since I know the movie so well.
Can anyone imagine what an exciting time this must have been for her? To work so hard for so many years and finally have success come to you in spades, man she must have felt on top of the world. And to think that in 6 short years she would go from a teeny bopper to a straight-up cultural icon with the release of Vogue and and the Blond Ambition tour, only to cap of the year with Justify My Love single and video and the release of Immaculate Colleection, still one of the highest selling records of all time!!!
Agree with you, but sometimes I wonder, during this time period, if she ever let herself relax enough to actually feel that excitement and feel on top of the world. She was so driven and these early days were so crucial to her choices and being able to navigate what she was making happen, balancing her will with the “luck” of what was happening around her, perhaps wondering if she was going to be able to keep pushing thru and go further. Though this footage does make it appear as though she was able to live in the moment and have some laughs.

Crazy that Madonna could walk the streets of NY without huge crowds gathering. Even a few months later, that was probably impossible for her to do. Love seeing her on the cusp of her intense fame.
the bit at the end when she comes out her trailer with a coat and goes looking for a payphone is soooo iconic - how she walks away so confident, like she's just about to conquer the world......

Her beautiful thick hair, intense huge GORGEOUS eyes, BEAUTIFUL jawline and heart shaped lips. She really was one of the most beautiful woman to look at at this era of her life and career. She exudes sensuality in a high class way. Madonna is such a driven woman. She is an icon.. I hate to say but once she's gone we the people will truly appreciate her. I think she will live for a few more decades though.
Filmed in a time before mobile phones and social media. This captures Madonna’s sense of drive, ambition and unrivalled confidence. She talks openly about her 6 months living in Paris, the end shot of her walking to a pay phone without anybody knowing who she is now appears very surreal. Weeks later the set was swarming with fans and paparazzi. Thank you so much for posting this hidden gem 💎

It's so refreshing to see Madonna at 26:13 so unguarded, effervescent and enthusiastic - very much unlike the diva persona she's developed decades later.
When everyone thinks that you should be perfect all of the time and the world is just waiting for you to mess up. She has EARNED the right to expect the same from everyone that she works with. I don’t know if “diva” is the right word. More like exacting and not taking $hit from anyone.

Really welcoming to view this footage. Most of the crew look so dedicated and study like. Madonna and if people disagree that is fine is underrated as an actor. It is fashionable to attack her acting.
I recall critics wanting her/expecting her to play more roles like this one, she was excellent in DSS wasn't she? But because she did not, her acting was often criticized. IIRC her part in Who's That Girl was the only role they thought was similar in those early days.
Madonna, so young and beautiful and so hungry for fame. To this day this is still one of her best movies, where she was more or less being herself. A nice little fun, low budget 80s film. I once met Rosanna Arquette in person, when I was working in Harvey Nichols in London. She came up to the YSL counter with Belinda Carlisle, to buy some perfume. I recognized her by her voice first. I used to see a lot of famous people in there!
To be fair, I think she was more dissing her past relationship with Camille Barbone and the direction Camille was trying to push her in. I didn’t take it as a focused diss on those two ladies as much as an awareness that the late 70s/early 80s were over and the musical and image styles those artists made famous had run their course. And she since cited Debbie as a musical influence. Then again maybe you’re right and it was a diss. She was young and cocky LOL (or as you put it, a Leo)

Interesting stuff! I don't remember the Egyptian check thing on the streets?? It's the best Madonna film, I'm thinking because she was not so self-conscious, and cared less about opinions, she was closest to herself than any other film she made.

Interesting stuff! I don't remember the Egyptian check thing on the streets?? It's the best Madonna film, I'm thinking because she was not so self-conscious, and cared less about opinions, she was closest to herself than any other film she made.

1980s QUEEN
"Next year will be my year. 1985." She fucking KNEW she was going places.
I always felt in my heart that mag had a very high i.q. very astute and aware woman
I love how when they tell her 2 shut up towards the end, she told them not 2 talk 2 her in that way. Classic Madonna from the start...nobody's shit!
