I didn't think they could have found a replacement for David Ruffin, but when Dennis Edward's first came on stage, that man looked fine as Georgia wine, then he had a voice to match. Loved that man 🌷🌷RIP Dennis Edwards 🌷🌷❤
Yeah he could sing his butt off...
Rest In Peace Dennis Edwards your hard work in Temptations doesn't get rewarded enough.
This dude help create one of the Koldest SILENT NIGHTS SONG, EVER SANG IN HISTORY!!! RIH...

Man he was such a powerful singer!! RIP
One of GOAT of R N B RIP Dennis Edwards ♥️
The goat no one of. The best voice in the universe remember that
I could hear the gospel all up and through his voice, strong and soulful as it was. Great singer and great addition to The Temps.
You could hear the Gospel hewn vocals in his hits. He was a great addition to the group
F a c t s!!!!
The temptations greatest group ever! Dennis Edwards. Amazing voice! All of them were amazing!!!!!
You could tell Dennis still had a drug habit in "Don't look any further" because he was chewing on his tongue. The director of the video thought that he was chewing gum but Dennis said:" What gum? I ain't chewing on no damn gum!" LOL Despite that, the man had a golden voice that was distinctive and respected amongst his peers.
Wow! I thought he was chewing gum. I always wondered why they shot the video while he was chewing some. 😄
We call it crack mouth
Dennis Edwards was one of the best temptation ever his voice was one of kind you'll be miss Dennis forever
"Treat her like a lady " my ultimate favorite by The Temptations 💗💗💗

One of the most unique and recognizable voices in soul music. RIH Mr. Edwards
Dennis Edwards was a lion on stage. When I was a kid,I remember when David left and Dennis stepped in. People have to understand my dude had to follow one hella void. Because David Ruffin, was perhaps on of the greatest song interpreters to ever live. David Ruffin could tell a story. But Dennis with the charisma of good looks and masculine big voice accomplished nothing short of a feat of magic. He took the Temptations into a new era. My Dude was a lion.
My Dad loved Dennis edwards
Met him once in an airport. He was tremendously kind to me. Also, his version of 'A Song For You' is unparalleled.
I believe his wife mistreated him...that dirty b*tch. Karma is coming to her. Rest in peace Dennis 💔.
She looks like a evil bitch.
Rip "A SONG FOR YOU" was his MASTERPIECE, THE vocals on that SONG UnBELIEVABLE POWER,RANGE, EMOTION...AND THE HARMONY .OMG.RIP DENNIS EDWARDS ONE OF THE GREATEST SOUL SINGERS EVER.
Tyrone norfleet Norfleet Facts. That song was straight soul and gospel. Matter of fact, that whole album was fire!
YES 🎼Dennis Edwards killed it on the songs "Memories" & "A Song for You"🎤 🎼
Loved him since I was a child in the 70s ....he was so fine!!! Yessss that voice!!! The Temptations was just one of a kind every body held there own.. To my generation Dennis WAS the lead singer ...No disrespect to Mr Ruffin...the era changed so did the style of music so for some of us with Dennis he was all we knew ....sang with so much soul and he was fiiiiinnnnne!!!!!! He commanded womens attention that's just facts.
Rest in peace Dennis and Jackie and Prince Ray Charles
Yayyyyyy I was waiting for you to do this one! I feel like for such a talent, his death was widely unreported
Dennis Edwards sang the notes off the masterpiece " Poppa was a Rolling Stones" as well as others records; such as Cloud 9, Ball of Confusion, I Cant Get Next To You etc.
Dennis, Eddie and Paul were my favorites.
Does a anybody remember the silver friendship bracelets they wore on their wrists? .(two silver bracelets?)
I have several pair of them! I love the Temptations! I believe as big as the Beatles.
R.I.P. All you chriping brothers!
God bless!🙏🏻🙏🏾🙏🏻🙏🏾🙏🏻🙏🏾🙏🏻🙏🏾🙏🏻🙏🏾
Silent Night by The Temptations Will always have Dennis Edwards presence on that first opening lines " ln my mind.."
Oh my goodness!!! That's my favorite Christmas song. I'm sorry but I don't believe anybody has ever did it better. Thank you for the info. Never knew which Temptation did the lead.
Dennis Edwards,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, that voice,,,, OMG!!! if it wasn't for Dennis after David Ruffin departure I doubt the Temps would have escalated musically. Don't look any further is a CLASSIC TIMELESS HIT THAT WILL NEVER FADE.
Rest in peace Dennis.
I really love your channel and narration. It's warming to hear an honest black man cover such topics. You're well spoken and all of your video subjects are great choices! Please keep making more videos!
Wow, now this is sad. Who would have thought Dennis was going through some form of abuse by his very own wife.
lexdee523 smh
He wasnt tho
Allegedly!!!! The autopsy said there wasn't any signs of abuse.

Is that So ! Wow ! Interesting to know
Love that wonderful song ! - Just not long enough !
Until the original stallion Ruth Pointer slid through and married him lol 😍😍
RIP to Dennis Edwards of the Temptations!!!! This dude made musical history for all your Greatest Hits!!!!🎶🎶🎶🎼⭐
Wow, the man with the golden voice and the queen of soul, speaking of learning something new everyday and mixed up with a pointer sister
David Ruffin, with his voice, charisma, moves, soul, and bold, quirky persona put the Tempts all the way on to third base. Let’s not forget this.
The intro and back ground music is suspenseful as hell lol. But love these videos.
I been watching this for 2 weeks straight non stop I we need more bro
Great biography. Such a sad ending though. Always loved the temps , all of them. So thankful for the musical gifts that they bestowed on this Earth.
Thank you for the all the work and videos, I'll have to check out those two songs he recorded with the Contours that you mentioned and the first solo record he did in the 80s.

My favorite Temptation! Silent Holy Night--timeless, Ball of Confusion, yeah that part. Of course, who can forget Papa was Rolling Stone? Give Dennis his props, rest King, rest!
A true legend. Don't look any further is favourite of all time .greetings from kenya
Tryna figure out how a paraplegic “takes” a nasty fall? He can’t even move! Anyone one else catch that?
That is something to think about.🤔
WHY MOVE HIM IN A FANCY HI RISE AWAY FROM HIS FAMILY...
I missed that & had to listen again! You're absolutely right
A fall can happen from a bed, a wheelchair, a stretcher, or a lift. It happens all the time.
A paraplegic is someone who has lost the use of two of his limbs the other two still work so he have tried to move with the working limbs and fell it is possible you know
I played “ Ma” from one of the temptations albums for an aunt that didn’t like rock n roll or r& b . She didn’t let out a peep and just sat there intently listening. You can tell when a piece of music catches you! Dennis nailed that song!
Brother i sang for years worked with the Temps, Tops, Delfonics, Dramatics etc. Your documentary is the closest to accurate i have seen especially about Dennis. David voice was the raspy soul stirring voice that took the Temps to their big early hits. When Dennis came, so did Norman Whitfield who changed the Smokey sound and their grammys came. Truth is, Dennis's replacement Ali Ollie Woodson was the best of David and Dennis. The truth is, because of Otis Williams the Temptations are still going strong todsy amidst all the changes in members they are Temptations Forever!
David showmanship was untouchable!
I would like people like you who knew these people to do documentaries on them to delve deeper in to them
Otis started the group Temptations it is so crazy the guy that started the group is the last one out of the original Temptations that are still living,Detroit we love you Temptations... rest in peace to all of The Original Temptations Otis is still going strong!
Yes Otis is still going strong that's GREAT! Too bad Otis was the least famous one out of the group. The main ones who had the voices were David, Eddie, Melvin and Dennis..
@@spicyhot2552
True but on the other hand he's keeping the legacy of the Temptation going that's his talent I guess?
@@spicyhot2552 Paul could really sing also but Otis kept blocking him from singing lead according to Mary Wilson's book.
Tupac sampled Don't Look Any Further for Hit "'Em Up.
Junior mafia sampled it first. "Get money remix"
Thanks guys
Get money came first and pac sampled it as a shot toward biggie
Eric B. & Rakim sampled it first Paid In Full
@@ericlove1234 Thanks for explaining that to the kids.
The TV temptations mini-series left alot of the details out .. thanks for the great details of this story 👌
YESH my brother, Again being from Alabama I would here these stories all the time about the Temptations... This music industry is a very nasty wicked world, You can't help but to think with all this information thats out that people would want NO dealings with!?
So is the general public...💯💯💯
It's an evil industry.....remember Lucifer was the angel of music

Loving this one thanks for sharing very important information giving thanks blessed love to all knowledge is power hopefully everyone pays attention keep up the good work just give him his credit and respect that he deserves let his legacy lives on through other artists 🙏🙏🙏🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲💪💪💪
You should do one on David Ruffin
I agree. That would be a good episode.
Yes!!!! David Ruffin was the man. He was Eddie Kane before Eddie Kane.
They did one on him
They did one on David Ruffin & Paul Williams.
Facts!
Rest in peace. Dennis
You was a member one one of the ultimate skilled singing groups.
They don't make real professional groups anymore so this is one why the Temps will always be because, they will always lift us up and bring back when we are feeling down.
I actually didn't know who I wanted to imitate, Dennis, Eddy or Melvin so I played their records over and over and did them all!😁
I agree with Otis;
"...A sangin' brutha!"
Talk about being the right person at the right time. His voice was perfect for leading the Temptations from the sweet soulful sounds of the Classic Five, (circa 1963/68) to the hard-driving, Whitfield infused wailings of psychedelic soul. The times were changing, and so was the music.
Credit Dennis and what he brought to the group post-Ruffin, for executing such a graceful shift without missing a beat! Not only was he a dynamic lead singer but he also had an excellent stage presence. Many other male vocal groups during that same period were unable to pull off the shift from soulful R&B ballads, to in-your-face psychedelia with the same degree of success. His sometimes abrasive but always harmonic baritone/tenor lead voice, was an equally effective blending in the always rich backgrounds, when Eddie or Paul took the lead. The Grammys the Tempts won during that period with him squalling the lead vocals, pretty much speak for themselves.
How sad his demise. His voice changed their sound, but it also gave them an unforgettable niche in the late 60s and 70s. Their Grammy Award winning album "A Song For You", from 1975 will always represent his finest contribution to their great legacy. Rest in Peace my brother.👑🎤👞
@@yuungpersoon5397
David Ruffin set the standard for what the Tempts' legacy would be measured by. Even Otis admits that their best period of time was during the era of the Classic Five; Ruff, E.K. Paul, Blue, and of course Otis, with David leading their most iconic sweet soul music hits.
No question that Dennis gave them a new direction during a time of change, with his powerful lead voice. The differing opinions as to who was the better lead, rival the controversial opinions of M.J. and LeBron, as the G.O.A.T. in the history of basketball. For me it's David Ruffin. Despite his character flaws, his voice made THE Temptations, not his popularity. Dennis took the torch and continued what he had accomplished as, in my opinion, the greatest male vocal group lead singer of all times. 🎤👓🎩👞
I was really hoping that you mention the man behind all these hits the late great Norman Whitfield
Yep. Norman had his ways but we all do and he was just trying to eat just like anyone else but he's definitely one of the greatest. That carwash soundtrack he produced with rose Royce is legendary
R.I.P King. Thank you for your gift of singing 🥰🤗🎤🎧🎶🎵🎼🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

Great singer. The Temps were brilliant. Thank you for your videos.
Dennis definitely was the best lead singer The Temptations ever had. Three number one pop hits and Grammy awards.
Im loving this channel👍
GREAT JOB: as a kid in the late '60s, we rejoiced when Dennis rejuvenated the Tempts' new sound, based on Norman Whitfield's creative magic. David was great; but Dennis marked a new sound for younger Temptation fans, like myself. Ball of Confusion, Cloud Nine, and his gospel pipes on Silent Night - put Dennis in RnB Heaven. He also had the baddest fro' in the Tempts - in fact, his late-sixties Afro is only equaled or competed with by the Jackson Five; and the Sylvers. And, Papa Rollin Stone and Shakey Ground are two of his all-time classics. His off-spring should really be proud to have had him as a father/grandfather. In 2011, I had the honor of performing a gig with Dennis Edwards and the Temptations Revue. Backstage, he was so polite and respectful - and continuously called me "Sir," even though I'm about 13 years his junior. But he gave my entire group our props - and was happy to take photos with us. What a pleasant memory! I told him that he was my idol, as a kid - but he simply smiled and said "Thanks." No sign of arrogance or Diva-hood - just a Genuine, God-given Spirit. RIP, Dennis Edwards. TC
He visited New Orleans at the hotel where I worked. I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Edwards. He, Johnny Gill, and Eddie Levert were doing a concert. I was in the lobby of the hotel and started engaging in a conversation. He was shocked that as young as i was at the time. I knew exactly who he was. We talked for 15 minutes or so. Very nice man. Glad i had the chance to meet him.
R.I.H. Mr. Edwards
Wow, I didn't know Dennis was on that white powder also. They managed to find some good replacements for both David and Dennis. Ali-Ollie Woodson was excellent. But David and Dennis were my favorites. I'm sure that Otis never thought he would be the last survivor
Watch his music video don't look any further and he is chewing his mouth viciously with nothing in his mouth even the lady in the video said he was very high
I never knew he dated Aretha, then dump her for Ruth Pointer, wow!!

His voice was majestic his life style not so good. So many times we hear of great artists unable to stay healthy and perform due to excesses that make it impossible to carry on doing what you did best. Thank you for the memories.
i love this channel!!
met denise in 61 and were close until his last days. been there when times were crazy.i was the real problem.
Kendricks died in late 1992.
Yea after Eddie boifreind died Eddie couldn't go on. Damn, that's fuck up. Eddie really loved him some David.
WHY didn't his life get the media that was deserved, when he died? He was my FAV singer of the group, and I found him to be very attractive..
...and I wouldn't come to the absolute conclusion on that his death was caused by his wife, because I know how a person, who is old and very ill, can become very paranoid, thinking that everyone's trying to harm them, or steal from them (my grandmother, who suffered from diabetes, became this way in her last years), although all suspicions should be heard and investigated, THOROUGHLY
I enjoyed the TEMPTATION..They were the Top Group back in the day. Each and every one of the TEMPTATION could sing and dance their Butts off. My main two of the Temptation was MELVIN FRANKLIN with his deep voice. And their was EDDIE KENDERICK now EDDIE had this TENDER VOICE and boy could EDDIE hit those high notes. Now i really loved all the TEMPTATION. each and every one. The TEMPTATION was a group that was well loved by their fans and the public. So Heres to the TEMPTATION RIP GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
The Temps was a beast, David Ruffin was my fav, he was a women beater, that's the part I didn't like about him.

Love me some Temptations Rest Easy Dennis Edwards gone to Soon But never forgotten R.l.P.To All the Temptations that passed😢😭 .thank you to know this info.
You quoted some things that I read in an article from CBS2 Chicago. What I hadn't read is that his daughter was his power of attorney and because of that, why wasn't SHE in charge of his medical care? Did she only have power of attorney over his finances?
They all make money, complain that their manager or company stole their money. But then they spend it all on drugs. Cry me a river

Yes he was! I loved his voice.
He really was!!!
I just subscribed, I love your videos please keep it going
I remember DENNIS EDWARDS BY the time I came up IT was DENNIS the lead singer
I guess it’s just the show title. But there was nothing “Underrated” about Dennis Edwards. He energized the Temptations sound with his vocal performance on “”Cloud Nine” and the string of hits that followed. He may have his problems, but lack of talent was not one of them.
Damn ☹️ Dennis Edwards was fine as HELL! ❤️ Man, you were wrong for that Dennis Edwards (Don't Look any Further) picture! 😂
Yes handsome brother as he aged he got even finer😉.

Jefferson and LaBrea in LA in one bedroom apartment right behind the Church's Chicken my first apartment one night a Black Limo pulled up to my door this fine ass man walked inside my apartment. I couldn't believe my eyes. He pulled out a bag of rock cocaine smoked it with me until it was gone and then he pulled out a bag of brown powder I' advised him that I'll passed it was known as hash. The year was 1981 I was 20 years and as the night passed on we were laying in my bed talking about his life as my head laid on his beautiful chest I listen to his heartbeat and watched him cry over his addiction to cocaine I got so upset that I took the pipe outside threw it in the dumpster came back in advise him to do as Gordy told him to do and that was to go into rehab and as I wiped his tears we kissed and slept the night away the Limo stayed outside my door all night he gave me two promotional pictures that I still have to day. Less than 6 months later I heard Don't Look Any Further on the radio and although this was 38 years ago I'm so proud that I felt sorry for him and threw that dam pipe away RIP Mr Dennis later your no longer in pain. This is a night I will never forget.
