Cattle dogs can make tough “PETS” as they are highly intelligent and need a JOB

  • Being a owner and a professional trainer, I would not recommend cattle dogs for the faint of heart. As although they are amazing pups they definitely can be a tough dog to have without give something a job and training. Like most work breeds, they enjoy a active lifestyle and a lots of brain games. However when worked with appropriately, they are incredible companions and Zeke the cattle dog is my best friend to say the least

They are the best dogs ever. They are ride or die, for sure. One day my husband came home after a BAD day at work, like a questioning my career path bad, and the moment our heeler saw him, he ran to his toybox and methodically pulled his toys out one by one until he found the toy that he thought would make Daddy happy. If you are loving and attentive to them and help them have positive ways to use their brains and energy, they are so attentive and loving to you in return. He was the best dog ever. We miss him every day.

Heelers are a great breed. I've grown up with heelersthey tune in so well. As a child I wasn't allowed off our property without one of our dogs when we lived up in the mountains there was a lot of transients. He was out bodyguard out blue and his brother. If anyone messed with me or my sister they risked getting their lips ripped of at the first squeak from me or my sister. He didn't fool around. Mine is now 4 years old and MAN was it a journey. They also like to be on the go. He doesn't care if we get in the car for a 5 min trip or a 5 hour ride, he's happy to be there next to me. For mine we walk and do all sorts of searching games, fetch and other things. Consider getting a herding ball if you have a decent sized yard.

Acds require their owners to invest in their needs as intensely as they are invested in protecting us and our property. I think that's why we have so many people surrendering them. Acds are not and never will be a golden retriever. Acds require a serious commitment and relationship bond. It's sad to see that a lot of pet parents are not up to that for whatever reason.

I have 2 Huskies mixed with Australian Cattle, both are brother and sister from the same litter and are 2 years and I can confidently say I was not expecting to have these types and wanted a more laid back dog who listens. But after having my since the age of 1 month, I can also confidently say that they have changed me way more than I've changed them. Because of them I knew I had to constantly train them/play with them/run with them/ and bond with them, and although this was hard at first and extremely annoying, I'm so glad I have them because I've never been as active and as outdoorsy in my life before I had them. I feel healthier and happier to just get out 5-6 times a day for an hour each and seeing how happy they are and how tired they get after a long day makes me so proud. They really do love the outdoors and love burning all that energy. Although I don't have specific jobs for them, just seeing them active and free brings joy to my heart and in return I bring joy to their hearts. Love you Jack and Maya🐶🐾❤️

Mine is an aussie mix. Due to the genes, he's smart and understands commands very fast. However, due to the mixed breed, he doesn't seem eager to do something I guess. We've got the best of both worlds which is a pet who's fast in learning commands and oh! A good guardian! He guards our house. It's incredible that he doesn't care about people that walk outside our gate, but as soon as someone he doesn't know or doesn't look like a customer (we own a gear workshop) enter the gate, he'll bark. Just bark though, to warn us.

We rescued a 1 year old Australian Kelpie about two years ago. She was a surrender to the animal shelter because she kept killing chickens on the farm she was born on. She is so incredibly energetic & intelligent, truly a remarkably smart & loving dog. She has light brown hazel eyes that stare right through your soul. She’s such an intensely alert dog that loves me like I’ve never seen before. She is so protective & will make the strangest sound & nip at my husband when he gives me a hug. Never trying to hurt him, just letting him know she’s watching him.
Something we’ve done to keep her busy is hiding kibble inside homemade dog toys. I’ll take a bunch of scrap fabric & put pieces of kibble inside as I tie them all into knots. Then I’ll soak the fabric in bone broth & freeze it.
I know this sounds crazy, but it’s super easy & my Lola girl absolutely loves it & will be busy deconstructing it for nearly an hour. Licking & sniffing are very soothing to dogs & in the Alabama summer heat it’s a welcomed challenge that she absolutely loves & looks forward to every day.

I would describe it like that imagine you were bred to do NBA. You trained your whole life, you saw your parents play basketball, your siblings played it, your grandparents played it. You were promised that your life will be tough and hard so you need to have high energy and resilience. But in the end you were put in the nursing home to look after old people.

I just lost my Pepper a few days ago, and this boy reminds me so much of her. She was an amazing dog... and aggressive? Only if you threatened her people. Other than that, she was very social, sweet, and a total suck. Not to mention phenomenally smart. I will miss her always.

I've got GSD X Blue heeler X Rednose pitty, he's so good with the families kids, I walk around with him off lead and go to the dog park with no problems with him. He only has issues with strangers at the house sometimes but that's fair ig he hasn't hurt anyone and don't intend to anytime soon he's a beautiful dog because he's been around beautiful people, spread the love and your dog will spread it back.

Just watched a show about the origins of this breed. They were created from dingos only back on the 1920s. They still have alot of wild blood in them, so without strong training i can see how they could be too much too handle. People just need to read about a breed before they think about owning one, for any dog.

Used to be a gas meter reader and one of these dogs was on my route. I never went in that yard because every time I would go it would hit the fence jump off bark jump up and hit the fence again. I kept skipping the house and the people got guesstimates on the bill I guess it got high enough so they left me a note saying the dog just wants to play and left me a ball to throw it and I love dogs so I tried it I had different dogs on my routes that I knew I could play with and distract them. I threw the ball, he ran and got it so I had to make sure I threw it a lot farther, as far as I could so I'd have time to read the meter before he got back to me LOL he was a sweetheart 💕

I had an Aussie shepherd pittie mix and she was wild when inside too long, but got along great with other dogs. We had record snow and brought her in the house and by the second day she grew restless and gnawed through the screen and jumped right through the glass window, she was fine despite the glass and 15 ft drop.

Buddy of mine has a queensland and she is the smartest dog I've ever worked with. I know lots of people say that, but this was mine. I swear she's a person reincarnated. You can talk to her and she'll almost hold a conversation with you. Whole laundry list of commands, and she lives for her ball. That's her motivator. She loves working and knows when it's time to play.

Great dogs. Not for beginning or stupid people. I got a Blue heeler rescue at 2 years and she lived to be 15. Very sweet and high energy. There were a few late nights that I had to drive to the grocery store to buy more tennis balls after she popped the last ones demanding to play fetch.

My blue heeler has bit people before, but I think it’s because we have been keeping him in the garage a lot because of sported and stuff. It will probably get better over the summer because I want to take him more places and maybe let him run next to the quad. Oh and we’re getting goats for him to herd (but that’s only if the stupid barn builder guy calls my dad back)

Heelers also have a tendency to pick one person and defend them to their last breath. My family dog turned into my dog when he decided I was his person. He has attacked my friends, my family, and every single animal he sees as a threat. I have trained I’m to be better, but to this day he is still fiercely loyal
